@851 what a ridiculous comment. Expect more from you.

Why, no matter what the club does, there are those who just keep complaining and sticking the boot in, it gets a bit much having to keep seeing it over and over again. It's like they take pleasure in the club losing so they can keep complaining about every move the club makes. The club make some dumb moves, but they have to try something, how about everyone just waits to see how it goes before unloading

I don’t see that at all. Some people have different opinions. It doesn’t mean they are less committed fans than you. Out of line telling supporters to support other clubs.

Well, it's a forum and people express opinions. But it's a big call to expect it to run the way to suit @851 just as it is to expect me to only ever read things I agree with. None of us know anymore than anyone else. So, I won't be waiting for @851 to grant me permission to unload.

WESTS TIGERS forward Alex Twal is being tipped for a move to Super League.

The Lebanon international is currently out of favour at the Tigers, which is remarkable considering the Concord’s club struggles and the fact that Twal has been one of Wests’ better players in a dreadful NRL season.

The Tigers finished bottom of the NRL ladder after just three wins all year but the club is reportedly trying to prioritise their younger forwards going forward.

@helmesy good luck to Alex. I would have kept him but if he’s not really in the plans fair enough.

the first paragraph of article is a bit over the top.

What a stupid club we have, Which idiot manager lets this clubman go.

One of the few players that turns up every week,

This is precisely why we have the worst culture in the NRL and deserve these Wooden spoons

Wests Tigers eye off Michael Cheika in pursuit of football boss

The Tigers are vowing to spare no expense as they hunt for a new head of football, and their attention could be turning to a former Wallabies coach with some Tigers connections.

Brent Read, DT

The Wests Tigers are reportedly eyeing off former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika as they spare no expense in their pursuit of a head of football.

The Tigers have targeted some of the biggest names in the game as they look to strengthen their football department.

The club has sounded out two of the most respected heads of football in rugby league – Newcastle’s Peter Parr and Melbourne’s Frank Ponissi.

This masthead understands both men elected to stay at their current clubs. Parramatta head of football Mark O’Neill, a former Tigers player, has now emerged as the club’s preferred option.

The Eels are aware of the Tigers’ interest and the ball is in O’Neil’s court as he contemplates whether to remain at Parramatta or work alongside former teammate Benji Marshall, who has taken over as the Tigers head coach.

Cheika is reportedly an alternative option. Currently at the Rugby Union World Cup with Argentina, Cheika has connections at the Tigers thanks to his work with Lebanon at the rugby league World Cup, where he worked with Tigers assistant coach Robbie Farah and players Adam Doueihi and Alex Twal.

It was reported on 100% Footy on the Nine Network that the Tigers were considering a move for Cheika should O’Neill decide to rebuff their interest.

The Tigers held a board meeting on Monday night where it is understood they discussed head of football role.

Cheika has made no secret of his interest in a role in rugby league, having previously been an assistant coach at the Sydney Roosters.

“I think he’d be great. He is a lot older, he has a lot of experience. He has a lot of life experience,” former Bulldogs and NSW forward Willie Mason said recently on his podcast.

“He needs to be more hands on,

He needs to be programs. Pretty much like a football manager. He could be a mentor to Benji.

“He can be part of the staff, but he can be like Benji’s right-hand man.”

Id rather Cheika than MoN.

@tiger5150 100%. We can't have our entire football department made up solely of ex WT players. And Buckets was fired by this exact board 6 years ago. Don't think it's a great look to bring him back. Cheika is highly regarded and would provide a different point of view.

Tigers reach out to Cheika, defer decision on GM until after review
By Michael Chammas and Danny Weidler

The Wests Tigers board has voted to defer a decision on the general manager role until after they are presented with the findings of an external review into the club’s operations.

In a potential sign that significant changes at board and management level are forthcoming over the off-season, the club’s directors have postponed any decision on who will lead the football department.

The club is open to a potential restructure of the business, both at management and board level, holding off on an appointment until after the review. Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis confirmed the decision from the board to wait on the appointment of the new general manager.

The Herald reported on Monday that former player Mark O’Neill was expected to be put forward as the preferred candidate to chase for the general manager role but plans have now changed.

The Wests Tigers have also reached out to former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika to gauge his interest in working in rugby league when his commitments with Argentina end after the Rugby World Cup.

The Tigers will wait for the findings of the review, but even if they choose to pursue O’Neill in the future, they are no certainties to lure the former premiership-winning player away from the Parramatta Eels, where he performs a similar role.

If negotiations with O’Neill fall through, the Tigers are expected to revisit the possibility of having Cheika on the books in some capacity.

Cheika, who led Lebanon to the quarter-finals of last year’s Rugby League World Cup in the United Kingdom, comes highly regarded by club legend and assistant coach Robbie Farah.

He is also related to injured Tigers star Adam Doueihi, who is hopeful of returning from an ACL injury midway through next season.

The former Australian rugby union coach has formerly worked with Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson and impressed with his knowledge of the game during his stint as Lebanon coach.

He has indicated a desire to work within rugby league but has been limited due to the 18-month contract he signed with the Pumas which doesn’t expire until the end of Argentina’s World Cup campaign in France.

As for O’Neill, the Tigers have held informal discussions with him about his interest in returning to the club.

One of the driving forces behind the push for O’Neill is his former teammate Benji Marshall. The new head coach has given the Tigers his support to lure O’Neill back to the club.

O’Neill’s relationship with Marshall extends back two decades. Before Marshall’s retirement in 2021, O’Neill told the Herald he once told Marshall, ‘You’re not the king’ after watching the then-teenager sign a crown above his signature.

Marshall respects his 2005 premiership-winning teammate, who is 10 years his senior.

O’Neill has expressed his interest in discussing the role but is currently employed by the Eels, where he has been general manager since 2018. He doesn’t have a contract with the Eels for a specified time frame and would be free to leave immediately if he opts to sign with the Wests Tigers.

The Tigers haven’t had a general manager for the past 12 months after deciding to appoint Tim Sheens as head coach. The club opted against bringing Sheens back into the administration role despite the veteran coach signalling interest in doing so after being replaced as head coach.

The previous general manager, Adam Hartigan, is now working with Phil Gould at the Bulldogs.

The Tigers also had discussions with Knights head of football Peter Parr, who decided to remain in Newcastle despite a third party organising a meeting.

The left field one I would actually really like is Eddie Jones. I talked to him a fair bit around 2005 and he is a MASSIVE league fan and massive RL knowledge. At the time he lived in inner west as well. If he gets the arse after the Wallabies dismal WC, he could be an option as well.

WT on day one “we’ve got a new GM lined up”

Later that day “actually, that appointment might open us up to criticism”

WT on day two “maybe there’s someone better”

WT on day three “actually, can’t appoint someone until we do the review”

🙄🙄🙄🙄

The Cheikai information is interesting especially since just a day ago Mark O’Neill was about to be signed off. The decision making process seems really disjointed across the organisation.

I have a lot of time for Cheikha but unsure if a FM would suit him? Depends if we're going to have someone under him specifically managing the cap etc.

If he's an overseer of footballing culture and development then all good.

I think Cheika would be a fantastic appointment and I hope we are serious about getting him.
