I don't think he's filled out yet. I think he might end up too big for 6. He played edge most of the 2022 Season when Matt's won the GF. I thought he was the best player in the Comp.@grovetiger why would you though ? Apparently he’s a gun 6 . Is it cause he’s tall ? Is there any other reason . AD is tall , Campese was tall, Wighton is tall , Munster is tall . You get me ?
Large is the most dynamic runner of the football I've ever seen in Junior League. Kicks and passes well but his size and speed are his strengths. Is Large an out-and-out 5/8 or can he be made into a game-controlling half?
If not him then who do we see as the long-term future 7?
@grovetiger Thats usually the problem with these young guys with big wraps bigger and stronger against boys but when they move up to the open grade that’s the money ball some do some don’t achieve the NRL so it is all speculation at this stage seen this all before it would be great if it works out .
Just eyeballing Fainu I think he could end up as a 7. He is a bit smaller than most 6s and we have a lot of quality coming through at 6 so maybe he is longer term 7. Coming into grade as a 6 is less pressure outside an experienced half like sezer is good
A means plenty, we should have tried to change a lot of years ago, crying about Brooks going is stupid, he wasn't the answer, how do you know Sezar can't do a job for a year, you don't, you are just speculating, with Brooks I am not speculating, he was in the team for 10 yearsSezar born 24th June 1991, is 32, will turn 33 next year, and Brooks tried for 10 years to steer us around and failed, so whats your pointHe is 32, as long as we pair him with a 6 that has some spark, we will improve immensely. Sezar doesn’t have to be electric, just move the team around and have a good kicking game. Also Sezar at 32 is a few years younger than DCE, younger than Hunt and Pearce and same age as Townsend, so age shouldn’t be a problemAs a 7, I can't agree, Brooks at 6 yes, but at 7 Brooks just doesn't have the skillset or game awareness to execute the role, surely watching him for 10 years tells you thisNo glasses mate, I have seen Brooks try to play 7 for 10 years, I stand by my comment, Sezar is a better 7, maybe it's you have the blinkers on regarding BrooksAs a 7 Sezar is better than Brooks, so therefore that is an upgrade, obviously not the one we were hoping for thoughsome wanted anyone but brooks
this is who we can get Aiden Sezer lol
This is the clubs aggressive recruitment drive.
not an upgrade on Brooks take your hate blinkers off mate
Johnson, Pearce, Moses yes upgrades but not Sezer or Croft or Clune etc
Sezer was better 4 years ago (marginally) but I would MUCH rather Brooks in 2024 than Sezer.
Sure, I can accept that but what makes you think a 34yo who couldnt get a gig in the NRL, spent 4 years in UK Super League, will do better?
Age is a massive problem. We are not buying a 32 yo, we are buying a 34yo. Sezer will be 34 during his first season with the Wests Tigers. DCE, Hunt and Pearce are elite halves. Sezer is a half that couldnt get a gig in the NRL and had to spend 4 years in UK. One of these things is not like the others.
The fact that we are considering Sezer and the fact that some fans are talking themselves into the idea that a 34yo washed up player is the answer, he doesnt need to be dynamic, he will just "steer us around" and sprinkle magic old man dust on everything says all you need to know about where this club is.
This is where the club is right now. They are holding crisis meetings to fight for the ability to sign up a 34yo who couldnt get a gig in the NRL. That is where we are, let that sink in.
i think that I made my point pretty clearly but in case that the fact that I got his age wrong by less than 12 months has thrown you, let me repeat....

Is that any clearer? How does the fact that "Brooks tried for 10 years to steer us around and failed" mean that a 33yo half that is slow, couldnt get a gig in the NRL and has spent 4 years in UK is automatically the answer?

if sezer couldn't get it done 4 years ago with that Canberra side and wighton outside him, I don't think he is the answer at 7 for Tigers in 2024
Don't think croft is the answer either at 7 in 2014 his defence is horrendous abd again didn't play well in 2 good systems storm and Brisbane.
we still don't have a 7 for 2024
great news about the fainu brothers though combined with Large and Galvin we have the makings of a good couple of playmakers
With the Fainu's joining that means we'll start 2024 with as many as 10 rookies forming part of the Top 30 NRL which is a crazy high number.
There's a glaring need for experience. I don't think I have ever seen so many young players in a squad?

I mean they made the grand final, and lost it on the back of a bizarre official decision. They didn't get the trophy, but hard to say he didn't 'get it done'.
He's far from an ideal signing, but assuming we're going to throw Fainu straight in next year, we desperately need an experienced organiser next to him.

I havent watched any SL but maybe others have?

He would be great as a 14.

What part of 33yo who couldnt get a crack at NRL 6 years ago, then 5 years in UK screams NRL first grade player?
100% agree. That's more relevant with forwards I think. Large has dominated every age group and played U17s this year as a 16 year old.@grovetiger Thats usually the problem with these young guys with big wraps bigger and stronger against boys but when they move up to the open grade that’s the money ball some do some don’t achieve the NRL so it is all speculation at this stage seen this all before it would be great if it works out .
There's no guarantees, but I'm glad he at least will start his NRL career with us. He could be special.
You may well be right but it does require me believing that Pascoe has more strategic planning talents than I think he has. Either way, punting Sheens ASAP and providing enough "support" (i.e. somebody who has any semblance of recent success in the NRL) for Marshall to sink or swim, seems to be the only option. Unless, of course, Marshall decides he's not up to it, which I think is unlikely. So, according to the SMH article, "Marshall is increasingly taking a hands-on role" with the current team.
And, at the same time, results have been awful.
Hardly a confidence builder for current and prospective players and their managers. Maybe, despite his (likely) best intentions, Marshall is not ready to take on a head coach role in the foreseeable future and the players are justifiably concerned?
By all means punt Sheens ASAP, he can already add WT 2022/23 to his club wrecking CV. But the strategy of transitioning Marshall to the next head coach role, also needs to be reviewed.
I might be wrong here, but I think Pascoe & Co are trying to abandon the plan altogether. Pascoe is someone who's only real talent is survival. Somehow he's been able to weasel his way out of every poor decision he's made. This time, I think he thinks the Sheens/Marshall plan isn't working, and instead of either 1) letting it run it's course or 2) admitting he messed up and changing the plan, he's engaging in moves to try and change the plan by forcing people to leave.
Step 1 was Fulton taking over from McDonnell. This was a successful move to annoy the hell out of Sheens. Step 2 is going to meet with Holbrook and bring him on as a 'support' for Benji. This will be enough for Sheens and he'll leave. Then Holbrook comes in, gets along with Fulton they start signing who they want, with the support of the board. Benji's role untenable. Rinse, repeat.
But, hang on, there's always Wayne Lambkin!!! Another Sheens decision. Surely he's in there providing high level advice to Marshall??
