if we can somehow move on Sullivan, Schuster would fit in nicely into our squad

Replace one problem with another.

Schuster can play if he gets his attitude right, Sullivan is not nrl level

Schuster would be a great bench player upgrade for Seyfarth

Schuster is a massive talent but also seems to be a free spirit. Owen Craigie vibes

There is a key word in your statement and that is the problem.

We are not a club that turns around problem players. This has been proven a few times now

Ok now Josh Shuster is officially off the books with Manly. Surely he is worth a train and trial contract.

Yes from me on minimum wage, but it genuinely sounds like he has bigger issues than even on the outside. Seems like another James Roberts type deal tbh.

Fit and motivated he would potential add to this club. He could be that "modern" lock that we wish for but I do genuinely thikn its a bridge to far.

On a somewhat separate note, Feleti Mataeo was way before his time and would be a great 13 in todays game. Wasnt he working with the Tigers recently?

Schuster seems more like a Moses Suli type for me. Maybe by the time he's at his third or fourth club he'll realise it will be better to put hard work in on the training paddock than having to flog himself working the scaffold.

I see Schuster as a Bryce Cartwright type player on an edge with great ball skills and a handy short kicking game. I don't see him at lock, don't think he will ever have the stamina or defense to play in the middle. Even on an edge the Problem is he needs to sort out his defense and fitness and I don't know if that is a possibility with him. I'm really conflicted as to whether or not the Tigers should make a play for him, if they did, it should be at around $250k for a year with a club option and a bump up for 2 yr extension.

I hope it's some other club that pays him that.

Schuster at top fitness and mental health is a bargain at $400K. IMO Schuster right now is a risk at anything over minimum wage.

Personally i wouldnt mind the club taking Schuster on at minimum wage as a James Roberts type project but I think it seems like Schuster needs to sort quite a bit out before worrying about football.

The guy just got cut before his contract even started. If he is going to wake up to realise his potential it is probably now or never. Not sure that just getting away from football for 6 months is really likely to help him. He needs to be training and focused on fitness etc for next year. He has been paid a large lump sum which means that there is no pressure on him to chase big dollars. On a minimum wage deal he will also be basically risk free for his next club (look at the min wage wage deals we have for players who are highly unlikely to play first grade this year). If you could get him (he has some connection to the Fainu’s etc) then you take him.

shuster has plenty of cash, what he needs now is a career. He seems the type of guy who needs a cuddle, not a kick up the backside to get the best out of him. The pressure of playing with huge expectations and a big contract didn’t sit well with him but we could do worse then to bring him over on minimum wage, put him in the system and see how he goes in cup and after a pre season. The guy has talent and 13 is a position we have no obvious pipeline of players in. It would see a no brainer. Would also help if we were able to move on Sullivan.

On the Sullivan point, everyone is lamenting the fact that he has a 4 year contract. This was announced on the club website.

In saying that I genuinely recall reading or hearing that there’s an ‘option for the final 2 years” somewhere in the media around the time the contract was announced.

Anyone remember this?

I doubt it, he still had 2 years to run on his Dragons contract.

At $300k I think Schuster is worth the risk.

Sport Confidential: Sunia Turuva tipped to join Wests Tigers in 2025

Sunia Turuva will become the second Panther to join the Wests Tigers in four months with the Fijian flyer tipped to reject an offer of more money at the Dragons.

Turuva, off contract at the end of the year, had been in talks with the Dragons after suggestions the Panthers were reluctant to offer him more than $350,000 per season.

It means Turuva will reunite with fellow premiership winner Jarome Luai at the Tigers and become the second Panther to join the club in four months.

The Dragons were believed to be in the box seat to land Turuva and offered him a unique deal which would have been the highest offer on the table. The Dragons deal ranged between $400,000 to $600,000 with triggers in the contract if Turuva managed to secure the fullback spot.

However it now looks like the Tigers have moved to the front of the queue to secure the reigning Dally M rookie of the year, who has scored eight tries through six games this season.

Another potential move to fullback won’t happen at the Tigers. It is understood the Tigers have targeted Turuva to play in the centres and provide cover for superstar Jahream Bula at fullback.

Newcastle also showed an interest in the Fijian international after he toured the club’s facilities and met officials during the Panthers’ recent bye, however the Knights never tabled a formal offer.

His signing would be a coup for coach Benji Marshall and interim chief executive Shane Richardson, with Marshall having already led the chase for Luai.

Turuva scored Penrith’s opening two tries in their 22-6 win against the Tigers last Saturday.

He becomes the latest member of Penrith’s dynasty to depart the club as the salary cap bites. At the end of this season, he will join Luai and prop James Fisher-Harris in heading for the exit.

Turuva’s management met with Penrith officials last week and talks continued but the parties have been unable to come to an agreement for the 21-year-old.

Fisher-Harris will join the Warriors after being granted permission to leave the club on compassionate grounds to be closer to his family.

The Dragons had earmarked Turuva to put pressure on Tyrell Sloan for the starting No. 1 jersey.

With Turuva and Luai next season, the Tigers will have five Panthers premiership winners in their top 30 squad. Api Koroisau, Charlie Staines and Brent Naden are ex-Panthers already at the club.

The Tigers have lost winger Junior Tupou to the Dolphins for next season

Would be a coup wouldn’t he. If true then it wouldn’t surprise if Api may have had some influence, a friend told me they were very chummy after the recent game although not much to read into that. Panthers should be cashed up for a crack at a prop then.
