@jedi-tiger Hastings, O'Brien, Ponga and Ponga's dad ends in tears for someone.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
@davey-farrell it will be good to go to a game and hopefully our forward pack dominating other teams.
2024 shaping. Now our pack is basically done and we have sufficient “value trades” in the outside backs we need to nail a marquee 1 and 7. It’s possible.
1. RTS?
2. Noffa
3. Naden
4. Douhie
5. Clarke
6. Brooks
7. Moses?
8. Klemmer
9. api
10. Joffa
11. Bateman
12. Papi
13. Matamua
14. Rua
15. twal
16. stephano
17. pole
@garry absolutely you couldn't make that stuff up, Andre and son having a blow up with Hastings who in turn loses it at O'Brien to get Madge up there
Hastings had a good football brain and was ultra competitive but I did not see him as a top eight 13 or a top eight half. Okay in Brooks and AD we don’t have a top eight 6 or 7 either, but it’s all about moving players on when you can that are not in your long term plans.
We now have a really solid looking pack that should see us through till the kids starting coming through. Now we have to focus on reshaping the backline.
i hope Matamua stays on development contract and we sign Nathan Brown.
Pack would have a real mean edge to it with Klemmer, Brown and Bateman.
Dev contracts can play NRL after Rd 11 anyway

I like that strategy too.

I liked Hastings but he obviously didn’t want to buy into being a 13. The word from Sheens when he was signed was he was purchased to play 13 so he can’t be too upset they stuck to that plan.
If they are seriously in the mix for Moses then I see a Moses / Brooks combo as superior to Hastings / Brooks. Hastings probably less required at 13 with Api in the side so might as well strengthen the pack. If we can use Hasting’s signing with the Knights for an immediate swap with Klem then I think it’s a win for us. It will make even more sense if Moses is announced in the next couple of months. 🤞
What they do at 13 next year will be interesting. If hard heads like Klem, Bateman and maybe Brown are in the rotation and driving standards at training, I don’t mind someone like Matamua or Rua being fast tracked to play with them.
Klem and Bateman offer more to the club than just what they bring on the field. Professionals with a hard edge will make good mentors hopefully to bring on our talented younger forwards. Stef and Pole might thrive with them taking the pressure off.
me thinks another pod this week boys ...lots to talk about
Matamua has a very good passing game from playing 5/8 in his youth.

Yep, just need official confirmation of the moves first.

@garry Hastings has had more starts than paleface adios, 26 and has had 7 clubs
Alleged fueds with DCE and Bateman that we know of,
Prickly character don't know how he will go at Newcastle, some egos up there
DT reporting both Klemmer and Hastings told not to attend training today. Sounds like it's happening.
Remember who told you first and where you heard it.
Glad to bring my first scoop exclusively to the podcast forum
Im excited about this. Lets be real. Hastings was pretty good for us. Had a couple of good games. Definitely the best organiser we had, but that was in a team with apparently zero game plans under Madge and that is when you need someone to organise something. Again, lets be honest with ourselves, Hasting never took a game by the scruff of the neck, never really threatened the line, never really showed a kicking game of any note.
IMO Hastings is a slightly better than average player with a very good media game. Everyone fell in love with his feel good stories of redemption. In the UK he went away to "find himself" and learnt the value of cuddling a sick kid and brought his new found skills back here and IMO everyone buys it up. He talks a better game than he plays. He went to the Josh Reynolds school of "Pointing Earnestly and Shouting" which everyone interprets as "game management".
Im probably over cooking it, but that is how Ive always felt about him and I understand why Sheens has done this and I applaud him for it. I thikn Hastings would have been our best 7 in 2023 and I think we would ahve been calling for his head by 2025 if not 2024.
