The last halfback, number 7, playmaker we had was Jackson Hastings. He did steer us around the park. Such a shame we had to let him go, yes he has issues but his awareness in a game is what we need.
Ah, the coaching narrative once again, Ho hum here we go. Yes sack our young coach who he himself admits is still learning and going ok imo, let Luai activate his clauses one of which surely is about the coaching aspect and let us start again with another 3,4 or 5 year plan. Richo can start looking for another half to run the team, that should be easy and another coach to come to a club that seems to think instability will make them successful again. Easy as Richo.
Seriously, we had a kid playing at 6 the first time in the NRL this week, sinbins, reshuffles for a team short on depth and we still almost managed a win when no calls went our way away from home. If people think another change will help that’s fine, you’re entitled to that opinion. I think there are other issues more important right now that should be addressed but that’s just me.
In terms of discipline, conceding penalties & 6 agains, prior to this game in our first 11 games we received 5 more penalties than we conceded but gave away 16 more 6 agains. We received 1 more inside 10 metres than we gave away. Which basically means we conceded an average on 1 more penalty, Rick infringement or inside 10 metres than we received per game. I agree that in terms of the discipline required to manage a game we need to improve a lot. Get Reynolds for one year.
Firstly Adam won’t come here… but have you seen what he’s done with a very handy broncos team?? Don’t really know the answer in saying to be honest. 2 dumb sin binnings on Saturday night, Cowboys score 28 points during that time.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
Did hear on another pod that we have extended Star which would be great news. My hope is Richo comes out this week with this type of news, it’s needed.

Hastings was a dud
dumb on both sides I reckon… pipsqueek (Sutton) couldn’t wait to blow his whistle and send Jerome to the bin, real ego thing. He could get away with that at Penrith, no way does pipsqueek bin him wearing pink.In terms of discipline, conceding penalties & 6 agains, prior to this game in our first 11 games we received 5 more penalties than we conceded but gave away 16 more 6 agains. Adams binning should just have been a penalty. He can’t just stop on a dime, especially his turning circle.
I couldn't watch the game on the weekend as I had something on so I just got to it now....Geez those sin bins were soft...especially the one on Luai first 10 mins of the game and the 3rd 6 again....I can recall multiple games where there has been 3x6 agains and no sin bin when i read the commentary I though they were all back to back tackles however they were not...I can sort of understand the one on AD especially when you went to super slo mo, however I would have probably accepted a penalty as I don't think it was obvious contact and Bateman milked it. Also, would have been nowhere near getting to the ball to score a try. There were multiple occasions where the Cows were slowing down the play the ball and they got away with it time and time again. I don't want to say the ref and bunker are corrupt but geez that was so blatant. I don't agree with the commentary about the Try where Turuva was taken out, love it or hate it the whole premise is based on eyes for the ball and that player had eyes for the ball the whole time, Turuva made the decision to jump over him and couldn't take the catch, what I do challenge on that try is whether Nanai was onside from the kick.
Having said all that, once we clicked a bit in attack we were actually pretty impressive, what we need to concentrate on is first contact in defence and more urgency in the play the ball, more ruck speed will get us playing on the front foot and it will also draw more penalties and 6 agains. Seyfarth tries hard and I can't fault his commitment but he never gets us on the front foot or dominates in a tackle...we really need to replace him, give Tony a run next week, Twal is out for sure and hunt should be dropped, so seyfarth to the prop rotation, Tony to 2nd row and perhaps bring Kit in on bench.
Marshall’s /Coaching Team is an immediate concern as much as we all want to discredit Galvin and his management about his ability to learn under them. Yes he has improved this year as a coach as has the squad but we are not in the position to allow a coach to develop on the job. Previous management put Benji in as a circuit breaker to take pressure off them. Coaches take years to develop and as much as I would love to see him succeed unfortunately our club is not strong enough to carry him through.
Marshall gave the one hit up wonder a contract 1 run 8mts that alone should be an indication of having no idea ! Had no experience and surrounded himself with his mates with no proven experience themselves how is that really going to end !
I liked what Hunt did for the sharks last couple of seasons, would come on and get them on the front foot with a few big hitups. I see him as a luxury to have when you have solid depth in the forwards and you can bring him on for 10 - 15 mins to soften up the opposition and help swing momentum. The reality is we cannot afford that type of luxury at the moment, especially with how thin we are in the prop rotation and second row. Is he a bad acquisition...probably not....is he the right acquisition for where we are at as a roster, probably not.Marshall gave the one hit up wonder a contract 1 run 8mts that alone should be an indication of having no idea ! Unless you put Bennett, Bellamy, Ciraldo or Cleary in last year or this the results imo would be the much the same. Perhaps the only thing different is that Galvin might give them more time. We had an incredibly young squad last year and some were pushed through faster than they should've been mainly due to having a poor roster overall. An 18 year old and a half past his best didn't help our cause although we could understand why Sezer was brought to the club. But Benji wanted Luai and he's had 11 games with him now after a shortened pre-season for Luai. Luai also sacrificed some of his game to let Galvin see more of the ball, I'd say that was agreed upon by Benji and Luai believing it'd help the team and the partnership develop better that way. Up until the saga that ensued we were 3-3 with 2 very close losses in there as well. Not great but also not bad. Since then we are 2-4, a couple of fortunate wins, a couple of not so fortunate losses and a flogging to the Storm. Now we have to develop another halves pairing, probably one will be Latu who is very inexperienced. That will take some time to be as good as we hope it might be. Our roster is still undergoing an overhaul as well. Will every signing we make be great? No but if 3 or 4 out of 5 new guys are upgrades and improve the squad then we'll be ok. The young guys will get better as well. We can go and look for another coach, I've seen Brad Arthur mentioned but his team only won 15 of their last 34 games under him. In 4 of the 10 full seasons he coached at the Eels his winning percentages were between 25% and 50%. His first 2 1/2 seasons his winning percentage was 40%. He, and many like him, are just as likely to fail unless they are provided with a strong roster.Marshall’s /Coaching Team is an immediate concern as much as we all want to discredit Galvin and his management about his ability to learn under them.
