@mickb Just another example of individuals with no idea , panic has now well and truly set in ! As you have said 4yr contracts for the other 2 halves …what type of thinking decides to pay another 1/2 $1mill a season before you even know what the other 2 might offer .

Understand what your saying but it's not like you can say to Laui " Just hold off for 12 months so we can give these kids a run" ..  I would rather have too many then not enough like this past year.

If we did get Laui (Don't think we will) I am sure you can offload one of the younger halves with not much problems anyway.

IMO the club is starting to be smarter like they should be

Board has apparently approved a $4 million dollar deal for Luai.

Reports say Luai wants out of Penrith and we’re in the box seat.

Luai will either be one of the greatest signings ever or one of the worst there is no middle ground on this one.

Disagree with this one. If we get him, he will cost slightly more than Josh Reynolds was costing us and even though Luai might not end up our saviour or even good value, I am extremely confident we would get more out of him than we did out of Reynolds.

The ONLY way Im happy to move Klem on is if we get AFB. There is no one else churning out the metres and PCM that Klem is in this pack

Reynolds is in the top 5 worst signings for value for money. I still think Luai could be a disaster if we don’t balance the rest of the squad

@hsvjones agree with this, 4 years or 2 years makes no difference in the NRL, you could easily offload young halves if you needed to. Sign Luai, but not more than 1.1m per year. Give the young guys a crack next season and see who cuts it and the other can play a utility role or move on, sezer will likely be gone by 2025 unless he is a revelation. Look at the Roosters, they carry plenty of halves and fullbacks, we just need some success and they will all be talking about our sombrero.

Luai is better than what we have, that’s all we need to know. You take him and then you keep the best of the other halves and move on the rest. That’s what the good clubs do. If we can also grab AFB we will change this club.

Wests Tigers are poised to make a four-year, $4.5 million offer to Jarome Luai in a bid to snare the most prized signature on the open market.

The Tigers have had ongoing talks with Luai and his manager and are planning to lodge a formal offer. Sources with knowledge of the situation, not authorised to speak publicly about the matter, said a contract could potentially be put before Luai’s management before close of business on Thursday.

The development comes after his masthead revealed that Tigers coach Benji Marshall had personally made a secret pitch to Luai at the Penrith playmaker’s home.

The Tigers deal will dwarf a Panthers extension offer of $1.7 million over two years, which Luai has so far opted not to accept. Marshall believes he can build the club around Luai, who will get the chance to be the chief playmaker if he opts to shift from the foot of the mountains.

The Luai interest comes at a time when there is intrigue over David Klemmer’s future at the joint-venture outfit. Klemmer is contracted until the end of 2025, with a mutual option for the following season.

However, the Tigers won’t stand in his way if another club is prepared to offer a long-term deal.

More to come

Wests Tigers are reportedly closer to offering Jarome Luai a 4 million dollar contract to leave the Premiers.
Penrith boss Brian Fletcher says the money being offered to Jarome Luai is “ridiculous” and he’s heard that one rival club is prepared to make the Panthers five-eighth the equal highest paid player in the NRL.

The call comes as Fletcher also outlined plans to secure Nathan Cleary to a lifetime deal to avoid the Penrith scrumbase being completely torn apart.
Fletcher suspects one NRL rival has offered Luai up to $1.4 million a season – which would equal Newcastle Dally M superstar Kalyn Ponga’s current salary as the biggest deal in NRL history.
The Luai-Cleary alliance has piloted the Panthers to four consecutive grand finals and three premierships, but Fletcher concedes the champions face a huge fight to keep the Samoan Test ace.
While Penrith’s two-year extension is worth around $850,000 a season, Luai could pocket an extra $1.5 million to $2m if he signed a more lucrative five-year deal with an NRL rival.
Fletcher revealed the true extent of Penrith’s desperate battle to keep Cleary’s scrumbase partner-in-crime.

“I’ve heard Jarome has had offers of up to $1.4 million,” he said.
“Whether that’s right or wrong, I can’t tell you, but it’s a lot of money and if he chooses to take that sort of money, you can’t be crook on the bloke.
“He’s playing with us next year, but with the money he is being offered, it makes it difficult for us.
“The money that Jarome is being offered by the Tigers and some other clubs is ridiculous. We can’t compete with that.
“Look, if Jarome can get massive money like we’re hearing, well we’re happy for him and we wish him all the best.

“Obviously our preference is for Jarome to stay. We’d love him to be here, but if he decides to go, it’s not a terrible thing for us.
“Our offer has been made and we can’t budge on that. He has to weigh up the balance between money and success.
“I can understand if Jarome wants to do the best in life and earn the money now that he can. If he gets all that extra money, he will have our blessing to go, but we’d love for Jarome to sign a new deal with us.
“It’s really up to him and his management to decide what’s best for him.
“Either way, whatever decision he makes, Jarome is a lucky boy.”

I dont have any information, but I just think that the manner we are going about this seems slightly different. I reckon we have been working at this a while, getting ducks in a row out of the lights and are just now formalising things. Could all turn to dust most likely but something seems a bit different to me.
