Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks set to join Manly Sea Eagles
By Dean Ritchie, DT
In a massive coup, Manly is poised to secure gun Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks.
This masthead understands the deal will span three years and be announced shortly.
Brooks’ recruitment – joining incumbent Daly Cherry-Evans - will give Manly a world-class halves combination from next season.
After 11 seasons with Wests Tigers, Brooks, 28, elected against re-signing at Concord.
He had previously been linked to Canterbury, St George Illawarra and North Queensland.
Brooks could sign a two-year contract at Brookvale but it’s more likely a three-season deal.
He was on a whopping deal worth $1.15m this year at Wests Tigers.
Brooks’ new deal at Manly could be worth around $2m over three seasons.
Sounds about right that someone would snap him up for around $650 - $700K. Seems to be only around $100K more than we offered. Looks to me that the club didnt really put much effort into retaining him and that is understandable to some degree. time will tell if we got that right. Latu IMO will be an improvement but again, needs an organising 7.
Brooks / Latu > Wakeham/Madden/Latu and I'd hate to miss that opportunity for $100K
Dean Ritchie is such a knob. The change in tune from when Brooks was staying vs going elsewhere is ridiculous
Interesting move from Manly if true given brooks only really plays 6 outside DCE so likely pushes schuster in 13. How much are you going to pay a 13 that has shown lack of desire to get his body right.
rumoured 2 million for 3 years so 650k per year for brooks to play 6, given the lack of halves a pretty good deal for manly if true
As for Tigers let's bring Jock Madden back lol
hope Brooks has some success but manly of all teams can't stand them lol

For some reason I still think we're a chance to end up with Schuster, regardless what was said yesterday.

i hope not, unless he plays at 13 for a pay cut
Manly and Wests are both out of the 8 this year. They should organise a grand swap and start planning for 2024.
‘In fact, the club (Manly) wants to switch him (Schuster) to the forwards to play on an edge from next year.
He has been offered a three-year deal worth $2.4 million to stay at Brookvale.’
800k a year to be a back rower? That is ridiculous from Manly.
I feel as though:
Latu / Talau swap was agreed but Tigers probably didn't see the Brooks to Manly news coming. I hope that the Brooks news does not affect that deal?
There is conflict between Sheens and Fulton which explains why Sheens was singing Brooks praises at every press conference. He was trying to put pressure on Fulton who has been advocating other players for the WT to look at in the halves. Sheenius comes out the loser of that based on today's news.
Tigers have probably watched Schuster produce next to nothing in his past two matches and have gone off him. Whether that changes with the Brooks news I'm not sure?
If this turns into a Moses clients out / Tartak clients in situation for WT then we will come out ahead of Manly.

I could not be more relieved personally. WT needs new blood in the halves. Brooks needs a fresh start. I wish him well.
The Tiger Eagles
@tiger5150 Bingo ? …. Ah no ! I literally said “IMO”, based on conversations I’ve had about him, my own life experiences and now the multiple articles and podcasts and quotes where people are referencing him , and his ego .
Im making a statement based on the information given , which if you read both wests tigers message boards and jump in and read the sea eagles , many anecdotal , and first hand accounts refer to , that the guy has a huge ego and can rub people up the wrong way .
everything I said is in reference to that .
If you want pat yourself on the back , go for it , but if the stories are true … and hey they might not be , and I’m jumping at shadows . Cool great …
but if they are true , then what I said is completely valid , and the type of conversation you need to have with a guy , that lets him know he’s respected and valued , but he’s not buying into the team culture .
Codswallop wasn’t it ? Yea ok …
@mickb Brooks should of moved on years ago but I suppose earning top dollar with no questions asked of form was to luring … good luck to him but personally getting a couple of new blood halves is what this team needs , Brooks moving on can not be understated this is a huge moment for the club . Today could well be the day things have turned around and success is around the corner !Is the handbrake finally off …
I have supported brooks for a long time, mainly to balance what I have perceived as an unfair agenda against everything he did by some of our supporter base. But I openly admit he did not do his job as an organising 7 and share in the frustration this brought.
So a move is probably a good thing and the Fainu recruitment is filled with hope and potential. He seems to be a creative eyes up player. Hopefully that is the case when he plays first grade.
But I’ll say again, we are not going to improve much until we find a 7 that is experienced and can lead the team. Expecting Fainu to do this would be madness. We need someone similar to what Scott Prince did, thus allowing Benji to do what he did. So who’s our next Scott Prince???
@tiger5150 I dunno mate ! Is it the tigers lowballed him , or the eagles offered overs .
I guess we will wait and see . Probably the last few weeks at the eagles makes it clear they need to find ways to win that doesnt involve Turbo , because he’s never on the field, and Schuster . Well it’s all been said about him .
I’m a brooks fan , but we needed to blow it up , and rebuild around a new generation .
In stoked for the guy that he gets to stay in syd and play for a contender , and a team in just meh about . Not the dogs, eels or panthers who is just feel dirty about checking in on .
I hope he goes well , but the quasi racist rhetoric about “keeping it local”, and “staying away from the west gangsters” that I’ve been reading around the joint , would have me worried about what manly future actually is .
But hey he’s thier problem now , bring on the Fainu/ Bula/ Korisau/TDS / insert halfback here era.
At the very least it gives us all hope about a new dawn .
