I can’t stop watching this sequence on repeat.
1. #7 into the line to keep the defence compressed with a prop running a line come back towards the ruck.
2. Ball out passes behind lead runner to the #13 who catches ball on the outside of the middle defence
3. #13 passes to the 5/8th who straightens again and has the option of either the short ball to the back rower or out the back for the overlap.
4. #6 isolates the opposing #7 and delivers the short pass to the back rower who runs over him and scores.
this is just basic NRL red zone attack that you see 20 times a weekend. What on earth stops us running this play?

Wighton going to Souths is a great example of the NRL salary cap/CBA not working remotely how it's supposed to.
The salary cap was never meant to level the playing talent between the clubs, it was brought in to stop clubs going broke and other than Norths it has worked.
@avocadoontoast one player won't make that happen, pretty extreme views there
This wighton thing looks like it is blowing up now that he has announced he is going to rabbits for less. I wouldn’t rule out a mid season switch given where the raiders are sitting on the ladder. Could shake out some rabbits for mid season transfers e.g. taafe/Hawkins given wighton covers al positions in the backline
@avocadoontoast serious question mate! I’ve been pretty vocal about my position on brooks , keep him until something better comes along . But he should have gone to newy last year . And I don’t rate Hastings .
But question for you, what happens when we replace brooks with say Taafe/Hawkins for example , and we are even worse that we are this year ? Will you be happy ? I’m just interested in your thought process . Or are you that confident that brooks is the problem that it’s inconceivable of anything other than an uptick in performance ?
For me he was in anything good we did on the weekend . I don’t know what guys like you are watching .
Whilst I think he needs to go , for everyone’s benefit , after games like Sunday , I’m terrified of how truely awful we will be if we don’t sign a half . Surely that thought has dawned on you mate ?

It was both tbh - and the cap driving parity was certainly something that the NRL used to promote a lot more back in the day. There were also lots of plans in place to develop the structure further - clarifying the (deliberately) opaque TPA system, rewarding development of players (protecting contracts, closer to the AFL system) and so forth. The previous regimes were continually getting blowback on certain aspects, so it never really went anywhere.
Of course, the current regime has absolutely no interest in such things. Their idea of forward planning is looking at the menu before ordering lunch.

It simply wasnt. It was brought in after Canberra sent themselves broke winning two premierships and it simply was not intended to provide parity, the player draft was brought in at the same time to provide parity.
@lestronge my honest view is that anyone is an upgrade on Brooks at this point. My issue with him isn’t just his (imo) poor performances, it’s that he makes the players around him worse. You can see the frustration on the faces of players out there when we’re in the opposition 20 and he either doesn’t involve himself or he does and he takes the wrong option. the best we’ve looked all season was in the trial against Canberra when Wakeham and AD were in the halves. We looked slick. Wakeham looks terrible next to Brooks, so did AD.
I played a lot of sport a million years ago and winning and losing are infectious. He’s just not a winner. Even at his best he was never a clutch player, now he’s down on confidence he’s just a disaster. He will always find a way to bottle it.
I am absolutely 100% certain removing brooks and replacing him with anyone would see us start winning games.
@lestronge it is a team game no one player makes all the difference, take last year we didn't win too many games without Brooks either and we leaked massive amount of points. For those that say wakeham and AD looked good in the trial well it was a trial and both sides had reserve grade players in the field too so can't really judge trials. We looked dgood in 2022 when we flogged Manly I a trial at LO too, trials mean squat.
Sheens and Marshall are not stupid enough to just drop Brooks with no replacement, Laurie and wakeham are not the answer, Laurie might be a 6 down the track but wakeham no way barely a first grade player. I am hoping we can get Hawkins across and partner brooks with Hawkins and see how we go. At the end of the year who knows maybe we see a 7. Hawkins 6. Laurie partnership but until we get some cattle in Brooks will be in the side.
@tigertownsfs raiders have put in a formal complaint about wightons third party deals for the souths contract
@avocadoontoast Kyle Flannagan....
@jedi-tiger In the first half they were against the NRL squad.
Wakeham/Laurie is what I’d run with.
