”James Tedesco is ranked as one of the best fullbacks of the modern era, Joseph Suaalii and Manu are also top-shelf options at No.1, while Keary, Walker and Manu are again available in the halves. Brandon Smith arrives as first-choice hooker and Victor Radley is also regarded among the game’s best ball-playing locks.
An upgrade for Suaalii and Walker’s recent extension, along with Tedesco’s $1 million salary, means more than $700,000 has been spent on average across the seven players.“
Assuming a 10.5m salary cap this implies the other 23 players in the squad (inclusive of JWH, tupou, Crichton, tupanua etc) average $239k. What a disgrace
Yep, it’s right in front of the NRL and nothing gets done.

@helmesy that’s the truth. Madge had nothing to do with a 6-72 loss. The cattle he had was bad, and it was all he could get given the dire state the salary cap and club culture were in when he arrived.
I'm not sure our salary cap was as bad as people make out. We had enough money to offer Latrell in excess of $1m/year. Cleary's signings, whilst short sighted, actually played pretty well for Cleary (Packer, Matulino, Mbye etc). Madge just couldn't get the same out of them.
Not sure if I’m misinterpreting things …… but just noticed that Will Smith is listed on our top 30 player roster.

I hope that's not right.

@helmesy Not sure I have seen a T&T player listed before.
Just bit strange …. It’s on WT website Team Lists page.

What gets under my skin is when TPAs are discussed, the Roosters players aren't even estimated to have huge amounts in their deals... the numbers simply don't add up. But NRL does nothing. Past players openly snigger about Uncle Nic's way of business on television, NRL does nothing.
Then there is the tired old line about the salary cap being in place to protect clubs from themselves, not to create a level playing field - even though the NRL has also said at every opportunity how even the competition is and how well the salary cap works... NRL speaks with forked tonque!
@tiger5150 Will Smith is probably a good utility to have on the bench can cover the halves abd play some 9 if need be.
Parramatta probably wishes they had him in 2022 rather than Arthur on the bench

It's because Roosters do not operate via TPAs. I was told in the past that Roosters are more of a mafia-style "you help me and I'll help you" approach, rather than guarantees. There is a guaranteed paycheck which is no bigger than any other club will pay you. There may be future opportunities for TPAs or "jobs for the boys" that are no different than any other club can potentially organise.
But outside of these official and NRL-reviewed guarantees, there is a large system of unofficial support by club sponsors and associates. NRL literally cannot police it because there's nothing on the books and nothing you can pin down.
So for example if you want a great deal on car, you go see Tony and he does you a great deal (not a sponsorship, not an official loan, just a really good deal). You want your teeth fixed, see Bob the Dentist and he'll sort you out. Lots of apartments going at $0 rent. Free meals and coffee at certain businesses. Free suits. Free financial advise, investment help, inside information about properties, betting tips etc.
Broncos and Cowboys operate exactly the same way, but people put less scrutiny on that because they are (were) one-team towns and people assume there are discounts or sacrifices accepted by players to remain in that town. It is assumed Broncos players might take a pay cut to stay in Brisbane.

I disagree. The guy is a career reserve grader. He shouldn't be in our 17 unless there's been a pretty catastrophic injury toll.
@avocadoontoast it wasn’t . He just signed shit players , and his hubris lead him to such conclusions like “BJ what a just misunderstood , I can get the best out of him” . No! BJ was a meathead. From the moment he beat his missus at easts to his final days blaming Madge for him eating double Oporto burger meals on his way home every day .
the reality is Madge had a rep for being a ball breaker , and “overrated” amongst playing circles . Rightly or wrongly . That’s why elites didn’t sign here . It wasn’t because our salary cap was no good .

Cronulla has lodged a contract extension for centre Jesse Ramien but rival clubs, and possibly one rugby league legend, are preparing to circle.
Sharks management have been in talks with Ramien’s manager, Warwick Wright, with an offer spanning two or three years having been formally tabled.
The Daily Telegraph has been told Wests Tigers and possibly the Dolphins have an interest in Ramien.
When contacted for confirmation, Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe only said: “We don’t talk about player recruitment speculation.
“Our focus right now is preparing the squad as best we can for the 2023 season.”
One well-placed source claimed Wests Tigers coach-in-waiting, Benji Marshall, is a big fan of Ramien, who comes off contract at Cronulla after next season.
Wests Tigers, according to one rival NRL coach, would be chasing a quality centre although the club recently retained Brent Naden.
Cronulla officials aren’t remotely surprised Ramien has attracted interest from other NRL clubs.
The Sharks haven’t been told about any interest for Ramien from Wests Tigers.
Rival clubs will have to find something special to extract Ramien from the Shire.
The Sharks want to retain Ramien and the player has indicated a desire to re-sign.
Talks have been prolonged due to the NRL’s inability to settle upon an ongoing salary cap.
Cronulla management fear the only way Ramien, 25, would leave was through a massive offer from a rival club.
One source close to Cronulla claimed talks with Ramien - who lives in the Shire - had been “positive.”
The Sharks feel Ramien wants to be part of a Cronulla club growing rapidly under head coach Craig Fitzgibbon.
Cronulla has already re-signed Siosifa Talakai and Ronaldo Mulitalo and are now wanting to lock down Ramien and Sione Katoa.
“Jesse is a good centre off contract so he will certainly have some interest,” said one NRL coach.
Wright is also the manager of Rabbitohs champion Latrell Mitchell, who signed a new long-term deal with South Sydney this week.
Given he is off contract after next season, Ramien is free to receive offers from rival clubs.

What a complete nothing of an article. I think it is far more likely that Ritchie has just read Jedi's post and that is the basis of the article. The only actual quotes or references in the article say that there is nothing going on.
