The Wests Tigers have secured the services of Alex Twal for a further two seasons, with the experienced forward extending his stay at Concord until the end of the 2029 NRL season.

Twal – who was already contracted until the end of 2027 – remains a one-club player, having represented the orange, white and black on 165 occasions since his debut in 2018.

Alex T resigning is good news piece but not a game changer. Bula and Luai are the ones we are all hanging out to have confirmed as staying on.

Alex Twal's manager has done a good job as I imagine WT paid a bit of "overs" to his realistic market value to honour his commitment and loyalty to the club, which could never be questioned. But, as stated by others, he is not a game changer for WT. A "win" for Alex, not necessarily a"win" for WT.

@mercy-rule Just blocks a path for one in the pathways program…spruiking pathways then blocking a position with an average footy player for many seasons loyalty dose not win you premierships !

I thought his last contract was for about that $400,000 mark, could be wrong but it’s what I recall. That’s average wage for an NRL player. And he’s a reliable middle, you know he’ll do his job. If that’s the case and the Cap increases 2028 then it’d be below average. But it gives security for him & the club. I’d think we’ve paid something similar to Sione.

There has to be a limit to how many Alex's a club can have and we are still probably one too many. 😅

He looked decent in the first trial. Can't say I remember much of him for previous seasons. Probably got him for a good price. 2 years... Well, I guess Benji sees something that's going to contribute to their plan and the team.

Do we still have a top 30 spot left for 2026?

That's assuming there is a plan. Maybe others more knowledgeable than me can explain that plan?

It sure as hell isn't recognising and retaining current elite talent or Bula would have extended months ago.

So you think they're just randomly signing players and have no strategy or idea what they're doing? Or do think perhaps Benji and those in the club are doing their best and have some intent to achieve success and positive outcomes? You know they won't ever fully publicly explain club strategies and plans in any detail, no club does, because no compative team in the world shares this, otherwise competitors know what they're doing.

All the signings in the past year haven't recognised current talent? They've expressed numerous times the intent and importance of keeping Bula, but for whatever reason... manager or board instability... Appears to have hampered this.

Could it be he is signed as a cup squad player with some nrl experience? Or perhaps there is some real doubt over Starford Toa's arm and his ability to go deep into the season.

Just too possible parts of a plan that I have no idea about either, but I am willing to trust it at this point.

@tigerstu, I'm trying to believe in Marshall and the club and, of course they have intent to be more successful. I think 2025 had lots of upside. In the case of signings in the last year 2025 for 2026, only (potentially) KPP might fit in the "elite" category. Extending current contracts for Twal and Seyfarth, for example, is more about rewarding effort - neither are in the elite class, IMO. Bula is.

Why did Toa not have the operation on his shoulder seems odd to me .. now hearing his shoulder is no good not very professional IMO .
