I am as impressed by Latu Fainu as I am by Galvin. I don't see Galvin as being superior.

So, if Galvin wants out, then give Latu opportunities to develop his understanding and combinations with those who will be here longer term and use Galvin in what ever other role that benefits the club. If that's NSW Cup or 14 -17 in NRL, then so be it.

It's a no-brainer to me.

I still think there will be a trade done where we get a piece we want in exchange for a 26 release for Galvin. I’m sure it will be a win

EX-PANTHER EYES NRL RETURN

Taylan May has taken the first tentative steps towards a rugby league return after his management reached out to a handful of clubs to gauge their interest in the Samoan international.

May hasn’t been sighted in the NRL since parting ways with Penrith last year amid allegations of domestic violence.

However, the charges were dropped by police in March and the NRL deemed May was free to return to the game.

May put his NRL career on hold to undergo treatment at a private facility while seeking help for mental health issues but a potential return is now on the cards after his management made furtive inquiries with clubs.

There seem to be a number of young halves coming through, look at the 2 that roosters have in sandon Smith and savala, both have shown, in admittedly a smaller sample size, to be close to, if not better than Galvin. The scary thing is the roosters are willing to move them on for a half they have coming through the juniors. Dogs have a few highly touted juniors, so do manly, and u still have players like Pezet and katoa who have not completely hit their straps. I think daddy Galvin may regret not taking the $1m we were offering as we may be seeing the start of a bit of a glut in the halves market and his boy may not be the immortal he thinks he will be.

Providing he hasn’t already signed a contract.

@lorenzo Watching plenty of games so far I had the same impression …there definitely is not a shortage of young halves coming through  and talent to boot .Sure Galvin is a NRL quality player but I believe he has been over rated by media hype  , his arsenal is limited ,defensive issues ,slow.
Now the Tigers are performing opposition teams will put much more emphasis on Galvin just running sideways  for a cut out pass and a low percentage kick behind the line will not suffice this will be apparent as the season progresses.Supply and demand will dominate what he gets paid and there seems to be a good supply line of quality halves coming through .. if he has already made plans his future club could well be caught out especially with the money being thrown around ,I am glad the club has moved on as I believe a bullet had been dodged especially for a $1million a season .

Ditto @snake Galvin’s playing ability has definitely been inflated by the media and his father. Like I’ve said before Latu given the same opportunities in the NRL and not hindered by his bad run of injuries would be running rings around Galvin.

Unless the Tigers gave him permission to talk to other clubs, any contract signed now would be silly for all involved. As soon as they tried to hold Galvin to it, the NRL would see the date that it was signed and ask questions about a contract signed this early.

Mind you, I would love for this scenario to happen and see the Eels in a world of hurt over it. I truly would.

I'm pretty sure it was a commitment from Parra to pay him a certain amount over a 5yr+ period. So nothing signed just verbal, the reality is that NRL is a business so if he does not keep performing and improving, or better young prospects come on the market, they will likely pull out or offer less money. I'm hoping he comes back to us with his tail between his legs and we tell him to shove it as Latu is tearing it up. It's a big gamble by his family and manager. Now that Gus has stopped blowing smoke up his bum and the love from all the NRL commentators is starting to wear off as they are getting distracted by other young stars, this may not end well for him. It also looks like Benji has decided that he conforms to the way Luai wants to play and only gets the ball when something is on and is not the primary kicker......his kicking has gone backwards this yr and it was not that great to start with. The next few games will be telling....my prediction is he starts kicking stones when he is not the main man in attack and goes in hard for a release.

@lorenzo  The way Latu is going injury wise he will not be tearing anything up any time soon or maybe not in the future do not rely on him to be  the  half next season !

however Latu has had injuries simply galvin has not cant change that one bloke is made of glass the other is durable. Right now galvin simply has proven runs on the board simple as that.

Depending on Bub Sandon Smith might be an option , I doubt Latu will will make the grade physically at this stage highly unlikely.Smith is a good young player puts in solid performances could be worth a look .

@jedi-tiger I beg to differ Re Galvin , watch yesterday’s game , playing against good opposition and did nothing and that’s not the only game this season.

Have a serious look at his last 3 games since coming back from being dropped, he has been absolutely woeful in defence other than one tackle on a forward close to our line and in attack i would say kills more decent attacking raids than he finishes i.e. 2 tip ons that led to trys when most of the work was already done......that's it. Ok the tackle may have been crucial to winning the game against the sharks, however look at how many poor defensive reads/contact that led to line breaks and try's or required scrambling defense to cover that sap the energy of the other players, everything is connected in a team sport. There was one try that did it for me against the Storm, he was basically on top of Paps when he passed the ball to Coates, than he just stopped ...well paps didn't stop he kept running and coates passed it back to him for a try....If galvin had kept covering and stayed alive in defense he may have been able to shut that down or at least block the pass back inside....mind you this was maybe the second or third try so the game was still alive. We know he has the fitness and energy to keep chasing so to me it seems like he has partially switched off because he has locked in a deal elsewhere, this could also be why he is not putting his body in front of attackers in defense as well.

So …… for me this result against the storm was a car crash waiting to happen!

There were warning signs for our coaching staff and players through recent second half performances in last couple of games but particularly against the Dragons which we were  dead lucky to win.

And this is definitely down to the Club’s poor reaction to our recruitment needs. I’ve and others on here have been banging on for bloody months about our crap quality top 30 roster. Beyond the first 20 we have absolutely no one that could be classified as first grade standard.

Our pathways squads have absolutely gone backwards both in terms of talent and coaching.

This was so obvious and should not have happened. Believe me this may be our undoing for this season unless some major calls are made …. and quickly by the CEO, the coach and coaching staff.
