Jason Taylor anyone ! He is a proven offensive coach could actually get the team to score in the red zone ..Benji has the team at over 20 attempts in the zone per game  for zero points . Has a past with the club some good some bad could do worse … FLANO!

Proven offensive coach? Bulldogs managed 1 point per game better than us with a better roster.

He probably makes logical sense, but not sure being a former head coach here makes him a realistic chance.

How about Georgallis or Dymock?

Dymock would be a good get but just signed for another year with Manly

Taylor would be OK - Benji won’t need to worry about losing his job to him and Taylor won’t have to worry about seeing Farah in the change room.

Can you explain why he makes logical sense? What has his impact on Bulldogs attack been?

Adam Obrien was the dogs attack coach in 2026. Taylor was their attack coach in 2025 when they made the finals.

Just in terms of his depth of experience as an assistant.

I have no idea who the new assistant coaches should be, but I have an opinon on the type of person it could be.

I would prefer it to include someone who can successfully transition to the head coach role if Marshall is sacked or resigns (ok, not likely) mid-season.

But not a Barrett or Taylor or Dymock or Kearney type who have established themselves as perennial assistant coaches never to be employed as head coach again. Not O'Brien or Flanagn or Ennis who are just total flogs.

Equally, it probably shouldn't be a total rookie who has longer term head coach ambitions because what are Marshall's credentials in developing them? At best, right now, Marshall himself should be an assistant NRL coach, and one with with a hell of a lot to learn, it seems.

And, ideally, it should be someone with no previous connection to WT as a player or coach but someone who has some recent (as in less than 5 years ago) currency in the game.

Brent Read reports…

It appears that both these appointments are now official. I am concerned that Ryan Carr's exit from Castleford Tigers was a result of his abuse of players following a heavy loss and coaching style. He had better be ready to see that sort of loss again and manage it a bit better or he will be out the door again (I hope).  We don't need any more internal dramas.

The Wests Tigers can confirm the appointment of two experienced coaches to work under NRL Head Coach, Benji Marshall for the 2027 season.

The Tigers have secured the services of Ryan Carr as an Assistant Coach and Mick Crawley as Pathways Coaching Director.

Carr previously led the St George-Illawarra Dragons as an interim Head Coach before coaching the Castleford Tigers in the English Super League this year.

Crawley – who will focus on connecting the Club’s Pathway to the NRL program – brings a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience, having worked alongside the likes of Wayne Bennett, Ricky Stuart, and Michael Maguire.

Crawley previously worked as an Assistant Coach at the North Queensland Cowboys, Newcastle Knights, Canberra Raiders, and St George-Illawarra Dragons.

In addition to these new appointments, Marshall will again be supported by Assistant Coaches, Brett Hodgson and Chris Heighington.

Marshall welcomed the confirmation of the newest additions to his staff.

"Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge and was highly impressive throughout the interview process,'' Marshall said.

"What appealed to me was his ability to connect to players and the way he thinks about his footy.

"He will be our defence coach and I'm excited about what he will bring to the team."

On the appointment of Crawley to a broader remit, Marshall added that the experienced mentor would have a significant role in supporting the next generation of Wests Tiger.

"I'm very keen to work with Mick,'' Marshall added.

"His experience across the game in coaching at an elite level is second to none.

"Mick is a very good person with good values and has seen almost everything in footy, and I feel like Mick will be someone that everyone can lean on.

"He has a very important role as Pathways Coaching Director in ensuring that our Pathways system aligns with first grade. "The development of our Pathways players is an important part of creating long-term success for our Club and Mick will be crucial for us in this role."
