My mid year review

A couple of months back I was over the fans, now I’m over the club. After 55 years supporting the Tigers I’m convinced the board are Trump level idiots. Why would we commit to years of pain without seeing out 11 more games? Sacking the coach now - after a review only a few months ago - is the height of unprofessional, but typical of what we've become. We are trashing our own brand with stupidity.

If 10 points was the pass mark, surely someone with Sheens' football knowledge would have seen the injuries, suspensions and the dropped balls by Madden and Laurie which have essentially cost Madge his job. Ironically, Laurie and Madden are looking for a pay rise.

I'll go as far as saying I doubt they even had a 'review'. I'd suggest there’s been a falling out between Madge and Sheens and the board has sided with Sheens. I don't believe Sheens is the messiah many believe and the snippets of the interview I heard left me feeling there is no real plan going forward.

We were favourites for the wooden spoon at the start of the year and we may now get there if the players aren't happy. A week ago we were leading a much more fancied team so the ability and execution is there. Of 24 halves this year we’ve been more than competitive in about 20 of them. We’re travelling better than our ladder position suggests and we genuinely look better than the Bulldogs, Warriors, Titans, Knights and I think we're capable of beating several others.

As for who the new coach will be, I seriously don’t care. Let’s hope the discussions and contract offers turn out better than our negotiations with JAC, Nanai, Lomax, Saab, Thompson, TPJ, Latrell, Angus C, etc. It would be just like us to talk up Ciraldo, increase his value at Penrith and we end up with Nathan Brown.

A shame we can’t just make Hastings captain/coach; I can see him being a quality coach one day. I don't think he's the type to kick stones, but I DO think he's the type that values loyalty and the club has just proven they don't.

We are officially a shambles.

I understand everyone’s frustration but I think sheens was pretty clear: the club doesn’t see Madge as the long term coach and wants the next coach to have input into recruitment and retention for next year and beyond. You can disagree with their view on Madge (do we seriously think we have a better insight from the outside?) but the strategy of moving Madge on and recruiting a new coach now for next year so that they can be active in player market this year before all the talent is taken is a good choice given our season is already over. Sheens discussion about the need for a development coach in my view is sheens just speaking in code about the coach he is trying to attract (Ciraldo). Fingers crossed he gets his target as it would likely mean we can access some quality Penrith players

Look I don't want to sound demeaning when I say this ...but the quicker we learn after 10 years that just because we sign someone from another club doesn't mean that their will be a mass exodus from that club to the WT's

How many superstars came to the WT's when Taylor came to the club from the Roosters .....who many superstars followed Madge from Rabbits .....Cleary from Penrith ( no we just got injured rejects from his Warriors days that destroyed the clubs cap ) Woodward from Storm .....bloke from Roosters

Unless we sign a Robinson , Bellamy etc ...it isn't going to happen ...sorry for the reality check

I doubt any Panthers first graders come over, but there’s probably 3-4 young guys looking for an opportunity that they might not get at Penrith.

I know, but I think we have no choice but to have a bit of faith (at least in Sheens). If we can get Ciraldo it’s a good sign 🤞

Maybe if we saw what Ciraldo could do as an assistant here with our rabble ....but getting Ciraldo is no guarantee of success ...no guarantee of attracting talent ..might just be a guarantee of 3 more years of pain ...and more ridicule

It just blows my mind how people forget so quickly ...how all of the young players Sheens brought through turned on him and wanted him out ...remember ???? How we mocked Sheens because the players at the time ran the club ......

Cant go with you on this one VoR.

IMO they had no choice. Leaving it until the end of the year would be a disaster that would set Tigers back 3-5 years. Firstly we are likely to finish bottom 4 anyway. We would not be able to sign new players, not be able to re-sign the current players we want to sign. We would leave Dogs and Warriors to have first pick of available coaches and leave dregs to us.

THis way they have torn off the band aid, they have first choice of available coaches, time for the new coach to attract the players he wants for next year, sign/keep/get rid off current players that the new coach wants.

Tigers probably just saved Adam O'Briens job.

Luckily, Sheens wont be coaching, but will have his hands involved bringing talented players through, which is where he shines IMO.

But the problem is we are at the bottom of the ladder. And we haven't been able to beat other teams.

I wasn't a fan of moving Madge on either - unless there is a solid plan in place with a good coach lined up. I continue to hope that is the case, it's too hard to read Sheens because he's very careful of what he says - which is usually just enough to keep the press happy.

Agree with the fiasco that was Sheenius in the end. I guess we just have to hope that he is wiser - and now that he can stand back and oversee things - and better than actually being in the pressure cooker of coaching and saving his own bacon.

I still expect him to be opinionated, but who in his current position isn't? It's why we hired him, there is very little he hasn't seen or actually been through before.

What about our own young guns? Isn’t getting juniors from elsewhere kind of at odds with developing our own pathways and juniors? Wouldn’t they then be blocking our own junior development?

Trouble is there is a long delay on junior development and our current juniors in KOE and JF are rubbish as a result on the club taking the eye of the ball for years. THere is talent in the earlier ages though.
