Morris is our defensive coach and I think he’s done a pretty good job this year. If anything our major deficiency is in redzone attack and end of set options. This is a specific technical requirement and one I think should be relatively easy to cover. Neither of which seem like an Obrien speciality either. A no from me. I like sharks redzone structure, would look at their assistants

It's weird, however the issue with our attacking structure in the red zone is we don't have forwards or centres that are running on to the ball. I say weird because its glaringly obvious, yet we don't seem to be doing anything about it. Even when Luai does his jink to the left and the right the rest of the team seem to be more mesmerised than the opposition. As soon as he starts moving laterally you all run a line and give him some options. The guy has spiders on him when he has the ball and defensive lines just seem to hold off on tackling him. We were criticising both he and Galvin for running too sideways... the issue is they are looking for a player running a line and none seem to be interested bar Taylan May and Samuela also Seyfarth does it every now and then. Twal/pole/Terell/Sukkar etc.. tend to get the ball flat footed and have no momentum in the red zone, its bloody infuriating and it's actually something that should be easy to fix.

Hopefully a full pre-season of Taylan/Samuela showing how it's done and KPP injected will sort it out....I say this because the key to red zone attack is condensing to first try to go around, as it's more difficult to go through the middle because the defence is in your face and the wingers and fullback are in the defensive line. So you condense the defence with the big boppers and then strip for numbers out wide. If that does not work you have likely created holes through the middle as defensive lines spread to contain the attack out wide, so you come back through the middle. Watch the Panthers and Storm do it, they move the opposition around like pieces on a chess board.

Adel, apparently, chose to be a podcaster? He should stay there.

I really like hearing Adels point of view on the podcasts. Comes across as a decent bloke and very knowledgeable about RL, WRL, the team and the club.

I have to admit that on many occasions when he has expressed his honest opinion about something (as he should in that context), I have cringed and thought that he was burning bridges for future employment as a coach. A lot of clubs would be hesitant about employing a coach who might talk out of school.

@tiger5150 That's exactly my point about his choice.

I must admit, there were times I thought that he made any return to the club untenable.

On a different note, Eddie raised the prospect of throwing Adam O'Brien a lifeline as an assistant. Any interest? (not withstanding he is a Moses client so will probably end up at Manly!).

Agree with the sentiment above re Adel. If he is not in the mix, I just hope that whoever gets the job has enough support to make their efforts worthwhile. It's no good for anyone involved if we trot out a reserve grade side again next year.

I was just reading the judiciary reports for 2024/2025 and keen to share how much improvement we made this year. Thought it probably deserves to sit under the coaching thread.

In 2024 we had 26 charges, compared to only 12 in 2025. Of those this year, a third were made by Seyfarth. Rather than bang on about Seyfarth (which I have a tendency to do), I reckon we should give the coaching staff and leadership unit a pat on the back for addressing a glaring issue in recent years. Refs calls are still against us, but at least the lads are pulling their heads in when it comes to discipline.

Excellent stat and kudos should go to the boys for fixing this up. At times, our discipline could still be better, though, but I think some of that comes down to fitness and physicality.
