If Marshall wants real success he needs to consider the coaching short fall

As long as he includes himself in that short fall, then all good.

To be fair to Marshall though, his press conferences are among the best in the NRL, IMO, and he seems to be as honest in his assessment of himself as he is of his team. Maybe it's his media profile prior to coaching but he impresses me, as a Tigers fan, with his reasoned, considered, thoughtful and honest responses to questions. It's clear why players would enjoy playing for him.

Third season means you’re off the L plates, and probably on Green P plates! With a squad that is building, seemingly good team spirit and some genuine class in the team there will rightly be an expectation of at least a 7th or 8th spot finish next year.

Albeit, if we don’t buy or create a dominant prop it’s all probably moot.

@joel 100% the team will again struggle next season without a couple of dominate forwards , last Sunday showed that the forward strength is not up to scratch. There are teams below us on the ladder that are building and will improve next season , as I have said there is a void in the coaching ranks this with the  non dominate pack I predict we will be mid table next season !

We desperately need size aswell… kinda like Hunt but with some ticker. I know every run Makalee had last week he was hard to tackle.

A mikaele style recruit (I would prefer kamakamicha from storm) and then the impact prop (NAS maybe but there are some red flags, hopefully something like Leniu falls out of the tree) and we are cooking with gas.

Leniu instantly moves the gauge for this team.

Just been looking at Adam O’brien’s record at Knights. He took over 2020 and got them into finals by improving their defence from 522 conceded in 2019 to 374 in 2020.  In his 6 seasons there the Knights defence was ranked in the top 8 over four seasons. This year there are 7 clubs with worse defence. In 2023 their defence was the 4th best in the comp, 2024 they had the 6th best defence. Obviously coming from assistant coach positions at clubs with great defensive systems influences the way he coaches.

We should be looking into any of the titans / knights assistant coaches.

Titans assistant coaches
Brett White

Michael Monaghan

Jim Lenihan

Knights assistant coaches

Brian McDermott

Michael Dobson

Blake Green

Brett White would be a great addition to the coaching staff as well as Jim Lenihan coaching the reserve grade team.

I like the experience of O’brien. Having spent 11 seasons at the Storm is as good a resume as any. Having got the Knights back into finals and improved their defence over that period says a lot to me. Our club has struggled with defence for last 15 years in particular & need to be better to play finals. But I don’t think they will move John Morris on as there has been a small improvement, just not enough for me.

We definitely need to improve our assistant coaches for next year, with perhaps the exception of Morris (not sure about him) and break the 05 connection/ boys club. Benji needs quality assistance, that will help him, push him and question him not yes men. If O’Brien wasn’t with Isaac Moses then we would be mad not to consider him. We are heading in the right directions but very slowly in my opinion.

Given the perceived momentum of the team it just seems highly unlikely likely that they change the coaching lineup IMhO. Benji has a strong hold on the club and playing group. I would love some help with our redzone attack but I am happy in the neither areas of the game.

Brian McDermott would be a quality addition to assist Benji. McDermott won the super league with Leeds 4 times between 2011-2018 as head coach.

Was in the Marines before playing prop forward for Bradford. Have him look after the forward pack.

Considering the fact O'brien has outright stated he is not interested in a head coaching role and the experience he brings, he could be the perfect assistant to Benji. Whilst I hate Issac Moses as much as the next guy the reality is he has some damn good players in his stable...including some stars and future stars at our club. So perhaps O'brien coming on board may not be a bad thing as he could deal with Moses for players we might need to keep or acquire. The relationship between Benji and Moses seems untenable. Unlike a player O'brien is much more experienced and his own man, so I doubt Moses would be controlling him, like he would a 19 year old with no clue.
