Trent Barrett to the Wests Tigers anyone..?
As a coach? That would be a no from me. If he can’t handle the Bulldogs there is no way he would be able handle the Wests Tigers.
As and assistant coach, sure.
Trent Barrett to the Wests Tigers anyone..?
Pass as a head coach, maybe as an assistant?

I think having the respect of the playing group is important and just a bit different from the players having fun lol. Hat sales an interesting comment. I’m sure there’d be many critical posts if we weren’t financially in a good spot.
we are absolutely transitioning. We have got rid of the players that didn’t appreciate Madge’s hard nosed approach. The ones adverse to hard work. The ones that cause division within the club. We now have a growing group that work hard and are united. A good start. Sure we are 2/10. We have also been decimated by injuries. Yep - squad should be stronger but what more do we expect than what is happening - pathways development, overhaul of football department, purchasing of high standard experienced first graders. Our squad is absolutely growing (and needs to grow more).
Re Madge’s coaching - I totally lost faith last year but have changed my thinking based on what I’ve seen:1. A team that never gives up
2. A much better defensive structure
3. An improving attacking plan
all this despite a ridiculous injury toll.
I just haven't seen anything that suggests to me we've turned a corner - I think it's more wishful thinking at this stage. We have shown some effort but I think that is the bare minimum you should expect from a professional sports team. Sure we've been decimated by injuries but that's part of the game, and the players we have on the sidelines aren't superstars.
Quite simply, 2 from 10 in his 4th season isn't acceptable. This is his team and he should live or die based on the results. No more excuses and if we get done on Friday that should be his last game.
That’s correct Avo. I can 100% see where Steve is coming from but at some point we have to find wins, for whatever reasons Maguire just hasn’t been able to translate his efforts to wins here and the club can’t afford to just keep fumbling along at the bottom.
Every year he has been here we have lost ground and this year looks same.
@helmesy @avo Im definitely not into posting relentlessly to try to hammer my point. Appreciate your different opinion. I’ll just ask one thing: what evidence from our history suggests changing coach will make the difference? I think we have the right coaching staff, we just need the right roster - which despite the losses this year, is slowly coming together imo
In Steve we trust!

Great post @tigersteve
progress and wins don't always align
But this team is progressing and the wins will come
As u think you said at the start of the year, you can finish 13th and play well or finish 13th and play badly.
I think no matter when we end up in the ladder, we will have shown progression and set ourselves up for the future

I still have concerns around Madge's tactics and selection decisions, but it can't be denied that the effort and commitment as improved massively this year. I want to see execution and start to improve as players come back from injury.

If we finish at the bottom of the ladder it isn’t progression..

Year 1 - one win way from making the finals - had to play farah with a broken leg
Year 2 - pushed the team to take next step up- dropped players and made them accountable- commentators said it was great coaching. Players cried eggshells
Year 3 - eggshell players mostly shown the door. Leaving a very young and inexperienced team with a lack of strong leadership. Plus a mix of bad coaching (which has been fixed with new assistants). Plus club decides to do documentary. No fun Year
Year 4 - young team with some better leadership from Tamou, Hastings Joffa - result start to pull together and fight for each other. Defensive coaching much better. Hastings to 7 transforms our lost attack
Year 5 - (prediction) young players take another big step up with another preseason and confidence. Club brings in a mix of experienced quality players where needed and some stinger depth players- make 8 and hopefully start to push for top 4-6

If that's the only metric you measure -
This is a club that's made the finals 3 times in 22 seasons. Even sheens didn't make finals for 7 seasons.
To me that says its a club wide cultural and structural issue. We've sack how many coaches and it's never fixed the issue.
To me the club has addressed things:
- removed the senior players that were setting the bad culture
- identified a core group of younger players that buy in to a good culture and can become the clubs leadership over the next 10 years
- change the assistant coaches
- set up junior pathways with Sheens, Kimmorely, Bettesy etc
- cleaned up the cap
- Stuck solid with the coach
- starting to sign some quality
For me this transition doesn't all click straight away, it will take time but it's worth it to set up the club for the future.
If you sack the coach solely on the ladder position, you'll never have a coach interested in the future of the club and just get short term thinking - with cleary signing and des back end contracts.

@frullens you’re talking as though we’re moving up the ladder. We’re 2 from 10 and have conceded 72 points over the past two weeks. That’s not the direction I want to be heading.
This would have to be the most ludicrous thing I’ve heard in a long time.
How does having this proven drug cheat as your coach in anyway shape or form a benefit WTs?
I think it’s a proven fact there are some people in the media that have been pushing their personal agenda of try to get Flanagan a job back in the coaching box, Slothfield being one of the main instigators.

Fair enough -
those 2 games we could of played better - the 2 games before we won both
If you look at a bigger sample size, this year we are conceding in averaging 23 points a game. Last year it was around 30 points a game. That's improvement
The club had their opportunity to sack madge at the end of last year.
If you're still keen to sack madge - I would firstly be impressed with how he's getting the team to play for each other with a depleted squad
but if I was in the board judging madeg, I'd want to fairly judge him on how the team goes with a full squad. Which he hasn't had all year.
Don't you think it's best to judge him at least at the end of the year?
Until then, fair enough identify areas for improvement, praise areas of strength, enjoy the games and not call for madges sacking every week.
You think bulldogs are now in a stronger position than us?
