@helmesy I’m more excited by this potential Richardson signing than any of the player signings being floated.

On the Bye Round (James Graham's podcast) Shane Richardson said he only takes up CEO/GM roles where he has full support and there's no meddling by the board.

I would say he's only interested if it's a total revamp of our board

We're so over the current leadership and Board of the club that even a rumour of Shane Richardson's interest is like jingling shiny keys in front of a baby. But, buyer beware; anyone with Richardson's lifetime in the game will come with baggage.

Who knows? If there is a new structure with new people to be put in place after tonight's meeting maybe someone like Richardson could help in deciding what that structure should look like, more like a consultancy role.

One thing's for sure; if there is no change in leadership and governance after tonight, the club is doomed in terms of member numbers. I know many former members, me included, are waiting to see what happens tonight before renewing memberships.

This might sound weird but I'm always wary of getting someone who is so synonymous with another club. Like the Fulton's, Hasler, Toovey etc with Manly. Richardson is a South's man. We need to start building proper Tigers DNA and not just the 2005 boys. I was excited by Cheika as he has experience but no strong ties to there clubs.

@canberratiger true, but he’s also had long stints at other clubs too including Penrith and Cronulla.

Richardson is someone with the respect of the NRL HQ who has been through the rebuilding of multiple clubs. He was employed by the NRL to design future rule changes even. He would be be top 3 NRL CEO/GM easily. No brainer.

but the key is the board. You need strong oversight to set direction and hold the executive accountable when they aren’t performing. We don’t need a board that wants to get involved in recruitment and coaching decisions.

There are a few people on the current board that love to get involved in football matters and opinion around players.

Would be a surprise to Panthers or Cronulla. Richardson is the man of who ever pays his invoice. Richardson had a pretty acrimonous departure from Souffs.

@tiger5150 Des Hasler coached the Bulldogs and currently the Titans but when you think of him you think Manly.

I mean this as more of a need to get capable people synonymous with the Tigers rather than a commentary on Richardson.

Respectfully disagree totally....

Before the merger, the Western Suburbs side of the merger was synonymous with decades of failure and for the last 10 years before the merger were at their lowest point ever. The Balmain side barely better with a brief period of sunlight a decade earlier. Since the merger there was a VERY brief period of success and outside of those few years it has been abject failure at this level.

The only people "synonymous" with Wests Tigers that arent also synonymous with failure are probably Sheens & Benji and weve burnt through Sheens. There is no one synonymous with WT and success. That gantt chart is two non intersecting circles.

We need people "synonymous" with success. Hasler is a telling example. Before he Joined Bulldogs, they had missed the 8 for 3 straight years. In his first year he took them from 9th to the minor premiership and a grand final then 5 years of straight finals footy including a second GF. That is success and Im sure no one at the Bulldogs was thinking Manly when they enjoyed their two runs to the grand final, just as Canberra never entered my head when Sheens took us on that ride in 05.

Wests Tigers pull trigger on seismic board changes in effort to revive struggling club
The Wests Tigers have placed the future of the club in the hands of a new chair and former NSW Premier in the biggest shake-up in their history.

and
Michael Carayannis

The much-maligned Wests Tigers have undertaken the most significant overhaul in their chequered history after placing the future of the club in the hands of a new chair and chief executive.

This masthead can reveal that Tigers shareholders have agreed to sweeping changes following an independent review into the club’s governance.

Chair Lee Hagipantelis and chief executive Justin Pascoe will both depart as part of the re-structure, which was officially endorsed by the shareholders of the club on Monday night.

This masthead understands Pascoe tendered his resignation on Tuesday.

The Tigers’ new leadership structure will be headed up in an interim capacity by former NSW premier Barry O’Farrell and ex-South Sydney chief executive Shane Richardson.

The Tigers had a meeting of the football club board scheduled for Tuesday night but it is understood it has been delayed by 24 hours to complete legal documents and allow the club to get its new leadership structure in place.

Remarkably, it is understood the Holman Barnes Group directors on the Tigers board have ratified their own demise, voting in favour of the changes that have effectively blown up the club’s leadership structure.

O’Farrell will return for his second stint as chair albeit in an interim capacity - he was appointed to the role four years ago but departed after less than 12 months due to other commitments.

Hagipantelis, who is also the Tigers’ major sponsor, has been at the helm of the club for four years but had no say in his future given power to make change resides with the club’s shareholders - the Holman Barnes Group, Wests and Balmain.

The mass changes are the result of an independent review that was ordered by the Holman Barnes Group and undertaken by former NRL chief financial officer Tony Crawford and Gary Barnier, the managing director of Benchmarking Matters and Cooperage Capital.

The Tigers confirmed that the board had been reduced from seven members to four during a transition period. The new board will be made up of O’Farrell and a representative of each of the three Wests Tigers shareholders – Dave Gilbert for Holman Barnes, Danny Stapleton for Balmain and a nomination from the Wests Magpies.

The changes are subject to legal approvals. O’Farrell and Richardson will begin their roles in the new year.

Holman Barnes chair Tony Andreacchio said the appointments would give the Wests Tigers the strong and experienced leadership that the club needed at this time.

“We are determined to be successful for our members and fans and that process begins in the front office,” he said.

Andreacchio thanked Hagipantelis and Pascoe for their dedication and hard work for the Wests Tigers.

“Lee and Justin faced enormous challenges, but they have left a legacy which gives us a strong base for the future,” he said.

“In particular, they leave us with a world class Centre of Excellence and the club is in a stronger financial position because of the relationships they established with sponsors and other supporters.”

Andreacchio said Holman Barnes believed it was important to move quickly to accept the key recommendation to appoint a new leadership team without delay.

“But one thing is clear – this club is determined to provide the leadership required to be successful in the NRL.”

Danny Stapleton, chair of Balmain, said it was significant that all shareholders were united in supporting the changes.

“We all share one goal – to see the Wests Tigers again become a real force in the NRL on and off the field,” he said.

Dennis Burgess, Wests Magpies chairman, said the club fully endorsed the review’s recommendations because they will be key to the Wests Tigers’ future success.

Congrats to you, Steve, Garry and everyone else that made this possible. An unbelievable achievement.
