@jedi-tiger I don’t like player swaps but your suggestion has merit that’s a good get and what’s missing in the pack !

Manly would be crazy to let go of olakuato. I can’t see it happening. Jurbo is in a bit of a slump though. Would you consider him? (I’m not sure I would, but just posing the question)

Wests Tigers attempted to sign a player they wished to retain prior to the 1/11 when he became free to negotiate with other clubs. No different to any other club in the NRL.

They presented a ‘competitive’ offer that included upgrades to his existing contract that no other club could offer and an extension, but were told

We won’t even consider the offer as Galvin is leaving as we don’t think he can develop at the club under the coaching of

Benji (elite half for club and country)

Jerome (elite half for club, state and country)

Api (elite hooker for club, state and country)

They could have said thank you for your offer but we still wish to test the market come Nov 1, and we will consider/compare your offer at that time

BUT THEY DIDN’T

BELITTLED THE COACH AND SENIOR PLAYERS AND THUMBED THEIR NOSES ON THE WAY OUT

DISGRACEFUL PLAYER MANAGEMENT

This. The narrative that the club should have waited until the end of the season to present an offer is a furthy. The club's competitive advantage was we can offer an upgrade for this year and next and no other club can. It would have been incompetent to wait until the of the year.

Richo’s statement:

“We would like to announce that Lachlan Galvin will not be with the club beyond the 2026 season.

Despite the club having the largest contract offer for a junior in the history of the club on the table, Lachlan and his management have decided his future lies elsewhere and were not willing to review the offer.

It should be noted that the club has no intention of releasing Lachlan from his contract, and he has not requested this.

The club is focused on winning as many games as possible during Lachlan’s tenure and beyond.

The club is disappointed, but we move on.“

If you actually read thus statement and not all the journos articles it’s actually really quite fair to everyone.

1) it clearly states the clubs position ie we are not going to be part of a bidding war, he will be moving on at the end of his contract

2) states that we made a large offer but that it wasn’t even considered, communicating that the club put its best offer in and it became clear that there was not point negotiating

3) sets out the bargaining position that we will not release him cheaply and that he is under contract

4) says they don’t want to litigate through the media and plan to keep things in house

Richo basically skewers Moses and takes control of the narrative from the start and the response from Moses is to run to his journo mates to try and start a counter narrative about how poor Lachie needs to take his talents elsewhere or else his generational talent will be wasted. This is 100000% in Galvin and his management and I would be very surprised if Richo lets him off the hook lightly given he and his management has brought the club into disrepute again. Galvins dad who has curated his career to make sure he was in every good team playing in his preferred position at 6 has really blown himself up here selecting the most ruthless and classless manager in the game. I’m sure his strategy was always to sign the original deal with the Tigers to get some certainty that he is in an NRL squad rather than in Flegg or in a development role and a likely parlay that into gametime and profile to get a better deal at a bigger club so that Lachie can continue his climb. Lachie is now facing the prospect of spending the next 47 rounds of NRL sitting on the sidelines because the grub of a manager he employed chose to go nuclear on Benji and Richo because he was upset that Richo had taken the intiative in the media narrative. If Galvin’s camp had just run the “I’m grateful for the Wests Tigers and I am committed to playing out my contract but I’ve always wanted to play for Parramatta since I was a kid” then I think there was a good chance after the initial disappointment that the team could have moved on quickly and he could have been part of our campaign to resurrect the club, even leaving on good terms. As it stands now he is a pariah amongst the fan base and the senior playing group. Worst case he will sit the next 2 years out of first grade and best case he goes to another team that will have to sacrifice a quality player to extract him from the Tigers and where that fanbase will require him to perform at an elite level from day dot.

The Frog has a few points:

  • It's absolutely imperative that we stand firm and keep Galvin here for the next eighteen months.
  • No trades, no cash offer, nothing. This nails Galvins Manager and his 'advisors'. It also put all other Managers on notice.
  • The narrative that I need a "real"Coach" for my development from a 20 game veteran is farcical as is the Mental Health Card.
  • Some of the stuff written about this issue is as stupid as the story that Scott Princes and his wife need to leave us and return to the Gold Coast because she wanted to become a Paramedic.
  • And my final point (which was really good) I cant remember.  Yes I do.
  • What happens to the kid if he breaks an ankle or some other very long term injury? The old adage "a bird in the hand ..."Bye bye   $5 million bucks........

i think Richo is playing 4D chess here, he would have known the horse has bolted on Galvin re-signing with us as he would have heard that a deal has been done. So in order to screw up whomever has committed to sign Galvin he went in hard with a payment this year plus $1m next yr and $1m every year afterwards. That means any club wanting to sign him for 2027 will need to pay in excess of 1.3m per year to make it worth team Galvin walking away from  this year and next year's pay day. That's why Moses didn't even want his client or clients family to see the contract or listen to the offer. If it is Parra, they will have approx 2.6m tied up in their halves...in a team that needs to buy a quality hooker, jury still out on FB, 2 quality wingers and a whole forward pack....good luck! If it's the Dogs there is no way they have 1.3m spare, especially considering the fact most of their players would be looking for upgrades/extensions based on their success...this is why Gus is trying to set the narrative around a 19yr old shouldn't be getting $1m+ well he will be 21 in 2027 and I'm pretty sure team Galvin only care about 2 things, he stays a 6 and he gets paid 1.2m+. Well played Richo

Good post. Richo lives and breathes for these types of situations. He’ll sort it.

I reckon there is a way out here which can occur once the emotion cools down. Basically we go back to our original plan of latu and luai in the halves, and Galvin in lock or on the bench. That way he gets game time in first grade, the club get use out of him for 18 months (or until a suitable trade comes along), and we are investing in our future (latu).

This isn’t a Russel packer scenario where he is at the back end of his career, happy to knock around lidcombe oval on a fat paycheck until retirement. He is young, loves footy and will want to play and prove himself. If he doesn’t want to play lock or off the bench, tough titties, he will do it because he is a footy player and this is his job.

As with most workplaces, you don’t have to be mates with everyone. Just be professional, do your job and everyone can come away still with some success and dignity

Yeah, I just can’t see him going along with this.

I don’t see his management going along with this. Too much ego and pride on the line. But 18 months is a long time for a young kid who has had a taste of the big time. I think after a month sitting on the sidelines, realising the club isn’t going to budge on an early release, he will pressure his family and agent to get back out on the field in whatever form. We are in the box seat here…

It's interesting how the media narrative has shifted from "a show of strength by the Tigers" to "a bullying culture by some at the Tigers".  Isaac Moses and Shane Richardson are as culpable as each other in that shift, IMO.
