Problem is, that comes down to what people value in their game day experience.

It’s those 360k odd fans that aren’t members I’d be targeting and the means a modern stadium like the SFS to attract those non-members to become members.

100% this. The rusted on fans would be happy watching with a sausage sanga and a tinny at Prattan park. It’s the next generation we need to cater to

Correct and correct. The management of WTs can be so obtuse.

For all the positivity about how many goals we've kicked lately as a club, the home ground fiasco stands as a prime example of what is still wrong with the administration!

It's blatantly obvious we should be playing out of SFS for at least a couple of seasons.

for you.....for me its walking down Mary Street, buying a sausage on a roll, walking into the 8th wonder, trying to find a Big League, grabbing a beer and then making my way to my own seat in front of Latchem.

Different folk, different strokes.

Genuine question, when was the last time you went to a game at LO? The Hill is not full of old fossils like me, they are all sitting in the stand or Concourse. The Hill is full of the next generation. Afternoon games at leichhardt have become a cultural thing for younger fans, a step up from games at Henson. It is a complete fallacy that LO fans are all old Balmain dinosaurs. More hipsters than dinosaurs and they are loving the LO experience for the same reasons that the Dinosaurs loved it in the 80's. Are these people not entitled?

The problem with LO is that there is a genuine question mark over whether it is even safe to host a first grade game from any code.

What we need to be looking at from a strategic growth point of view is how can we grow the memberships to a level where we are up there with the benchmark Sydney teams, Souths and Parra, in terms of membership numbers and we simply can't do this at LO or CSS.

Unless significant funding is secured for LO and/or CSS, and at the moment there isn't any, then we shouldn't be making any commitment to play there for more than one or two games a year.

And yet the Roosters have less members than us despite long term success and playing out of the SFS, the same ground that Souffs are trying to play out of. Pamfers roughly the same members as us will massive success and playing out of a 20K suburban ground. Dogs have significantly less members than us, with similar on field success and playing out of the big stadia.

Its almost like there is no correlation between membership and home grounds.......

Sorry to double up on this reply...

if you are going to make membership an argument for home ground strategy, in a market of 9 clubs, Tigers have the third highest membership numbers despite being objectively the worst performing team. If anything that is an endorsement for the status quo.

Winning games should be the strategy for increasing membership numbers.

Your surely not suggesting that increasing membership numbers is not something the club should be striving for.

Of course it’s not definitive but the Roosters and Panthers have things that we don’t have which contribute to their success. The Roosters have a wealthy benefactor with seemingly unlimited access to TPAs and huge influence with the NRL and the Panthers have a conveyor belt of world class junior talent and one of the largest and most successful leagues clubs in Sydney.

we have none of those things currently but what we do have is potentially the biggest fan base in the city. As you rightly point out we are currently third in the membership rankings and if we were successful we could easily be top but not if we are restricted by small unfit for purpose grounds.

Every penny coming into the club means more money can be spent on pathway development to ensure one day we may see the same talent production line Penrith are now benefitting from.

Sorry to be blunt, but of course there's no correlation between home grounds and membership. And, in the case of WT, they offer membership packages for particular grounds such as LO and CSS anyway. This may inflate the "genuine" WT member numbers across those sad old lines of Balmain v Wests Magpies. Anything offered by WT Media in the age of this inept CEO/Chair/Board should be seen for what it is; a smokescreen for the inherent mediocrity they have provided.

Of course the club should be striving to increase membership numbers. I actually dont think it should be their first priority though. Building a successful team/squad should be as well as generating the income required to build that. Membership numbers would follow.

My point in this thread is that there is no evidence or logic that indicates that moving to SFS would increase member numbers in fact there is evidence it might not (Roosters). IMO if the Tigers moved 100% to SFS you would win some members and lose some members. My personal opinion is in the short term you would net lose members because when you are as bad as we are and have been, 100% of the support is based on nostalgia/tribalism and LO & CSS feeds that and is to be thrown away at our peril.

I would concede to an argument that if we were a top 4 team for 5-10years straight, then we could be averaging 25-35k to games and full time at LO & CSS would be impractical, inappropriate and stupid, but we are not and we need to get there and moving to SFS will NOT do that. IMO we would not win 1 extra game by throwing LO & CSS away for SFS and in the short term we would not get a net gain in members.

In this thread you and others are conjoining success in membership numbers with moving the home ground to SFS and I am pointing out that there is no logical evidence for that. By far the biggest thing we could do to increase member numbers is to win games.
