Further to the above few posts, I am a bit surprised that there hasn't been more of a push to follow the AFL model where pretty much all Melbourne teams play their home games at the MCG or Docklands (our equivalent would be SFS & Homebush).

I love the tribal aspect of Sydney RL, but the corporate $$ is a huge factor.

Pascoe did outline a pretty clear plan for updating Campbelltown in stages. The way he spoke it did appear a lot of consideration had gone into the plan with discussion with a number of parties. It was to be a joint project.

I know things have changed but I’m sure the main plans are around. Pascoe also seemed professional as he left so most likely participated in some type of hand over.

"If you want to get to the top it's no good doing a bit here and there and just hoping for the best," Richardson said. "You have to aim high and be prepared to make the decisions that are going to help you get there.

"And after four years we would have the opportunity to move back to Redfern Oval if the bid by [Souths Leagues club chairman] George Piggins on behalf of the club to try to get the ground redeveloped is successful. It wouldn't be built before then anyway."

Very interested to see what Richo recommends.

Both StGeorge and us have struggled by being faithful to the 2 suburban home grounds.

I think Richo could go with 8/9 CSS with plans for upgrades

and 3/4 at SFS for the bigger Sydney teams (Eels, South's, Dragons, Bulldogs)

Think Dragons should follow a similar approach just quietly WIN/SFS

People stating "Richo will do......" seem to forget that the CEO actions the decisions of the board.

not sure I would put it that way. Classically the CEO runs the club. Important decisions are approved by the board ie stuff like home ground strategy would certainly fall into that but it would be the board reviewing the recommendations of the executive and approving, not the board deciding things and getting the ceo to implement. Board’s are meant to be for oversight: setting vision, hiring executives to implement that vision and firing for poor performance ie holding the executive to account. This club spent the first 10yrs of its existence with the foundation club wars, the second 10 years going through financial repair and “professionalisation” of management but with a weak majority owner (not saying I don’t appreciate WA but the leadership there was over their ski’s running an NRL club) and now we are moving towards full modernisation and professionalisation.

this is needed at CSS

LO set to host some games for Unite round A League in January 2024

They obviously picked LO as it has atmosphere, It get used a lot by community sport and women's sport plus schute shield GF I think it may get a modest upgrade however it will not change the capacity that much.

In the last year LO has hosted

83 sporting events at Leichhardt Oval, involving 64 teams,

  • 3 Wests Tigers NRL games
  • Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos NRLW games
  • Sydney FC Women’s A-League
  • Sydney FC and Western United Men’s A-League teams
  • 23 Lower Grade NRL teams
  • 9 Lower Grade and Country NRLW teams
  • 5 Shute Shield Rugby teams
  • 2 schoolboy Rugby teams
  • 18 Junior Rugby League teams

Agree - but it's actually the Board and CEO working hand in glove. Like PVL and Abdo

Richo has said publicly he wouldn't of come to WT unless the made the changes we did to the board. And before he took the role that he won't work for a board that doesn't given him the trust to drive change

He's says in every interview he needs to be on the same page as the chair, Barry O. Which he thinks they are.

At this stage the 'board' is Barry O, Danny Stapleton, David Gilbert & TBC.

Yes, the board sign off, but guided by the recommendation of Richo

aside from the nrl games would any of these fixtures attract more than 10k people? 5k people? LO is a fantastic venue for a NRLW or school boy game because it’s picturesque and the surface is good. I think the point is it struggles to accommodate 15k+ people regularly. Even this year there is going to be 2x Thursday night games, surely that is to minimise crowds

So, our fortunes cimpletely change and we start making the finals for the next 12 years straight.

You'd think we get to around 40k+ membership and should average 25k (if the ground permitted)

Basing ourselves in 2 ground that have maximum capacity less than 20k is not strategic.

What do we do for easter monday Eels game?

What about our derbies when we become successful?

The aim has to be to get CSS upgraded to 25-30k. I don't think the other options fit the Wests Tigers, though a move to ANZ wouldn't surprise me under Richo.

Some of those teams are a stretch. The only team junior rugby league teams play there is for the grand final day.

as another person commented. Only 3 games being the NRL games would draw any sizeable crowd. Leichhardt is great and I’ve seen football there since I was a young child however I know realistically it has passed its time.

30k at CSS would be awesome.

But may take some time,

In the meantime, where would you play Easter monday game?

All Easter Monday games should be at ANZ, but I also believe the NRL should be scheduling the location of all event games.

I still hate ANZ and think it would be the worst choice.
