The anger against Galvin is not because he’s leaving, it’s because he disrespected the coach and the team. If he had just said I want to test the market come Nov 1 I think most would have been disappointed but would also accepted it. But he didn’t do that he put the reason was on the coach not being able to develop him. How the hell would a 19 year old know, not ever have being coached by anyone else. It’s an absolute crock of shit and that’s why people are angry with Galvin, not because he is leaving.

it's 100% true. I would have been disappointed, however I'm angry because I know he and his team are trying to manipulate the situation. A club and coach that has given him an inside run....we told our marquee recruit to take a back seat for this ungrateful ahole and it impacted our attack, just to make him feel important and special..our disjointed attack and Luai just feeding ball to him is starting to make more sense....haven't listened to pod yet....will do so as I clean out the garden shed tomorrow.

I agree Nick, Benji learnt a lot about himself last year in terms of his coaching. But what I really like, and I don’t think it’s been said too much, is his ability to find the right players to play the way he wants the team to play. Jack Bird is a great example, Dragons weren’t keen on keeping him & he wasn’t in great demand and most of us had doubts when Benji got him to the club, many not even sure if his role but Benji knew what he’d bring. And Jack has been terrific. Benji wanted Luai because he knew he was a terrific footy player but he knew what his personality would bring and, more importantly, the difference it’d make to improving this team. The same with Turuva, nobody here expected Tito to be a guy to lead & drive culture but Benji saw it. Benji is trying to create a great club culture. He also saw what Lachie was capable of in one preseason & the kid was Rookie of the year. He shifted Sam to the edge & Sam was our player of the year. He’s shifted Luke Laulilii to the wing after he was predominantly a fullback in the juniors & he’s looking good, still raw but we can see terrific potential there. Starford Toa is another. I recall a short chat with Star at Lidcombe end of 2023, asked him how his hammy was (I think it was a hammy or calf) and he said it was fine but Benji didn’t want to risk him by playing the last 2 or 3 games. Benji has faith in these guys when most of us doubt them, Garry still has doubts no doubt (had to do it Garry). He’s put faith in Alex Seyfarth to do a job on that right edge & Alex is doing ok. It won’t all be sunshine and roses be great signs for Benji.

Right now the starting second rower position and lock position are the priorities for upgrading.

Thanks again for the podcast this week guys.

I particularly enjoyed the point that Gary made at about the 20-minute mark regarding the Wests Tigers desire to advance or commence negotiations with Galvin right now. The one thing that has come up repeatedly from different journalists this week is why did the West Tigers seek to force the issue on the negotiations? Why didn't they wait to the end of the season and let Galvin give them an answer at that time? This reflects in my opinion a level of ignorance from those journalists. There are plenty of reasons why the West Tigers had to advance the negotiations as early as possible and Gary clearly explained why they needed to action it. The opportunity to upgrade and extend was only available to West Tigers and this was a competitive advantage for them.

The other related point to this is that Wests Tigers had sought to clear cap space by moving on the contracts of the likes of Olam, Klemmer and Bateman and this would provide them the salary cap flexibility to make an offer and a substantive offer to Galvin.

I really think that it would be even worthwhile the Wests Tigers podcast putting out a press release stating this. It would really help change the narrative on a couple of things.

1) Wests Tigers podcast forum is supportive of the club's efforts to negotiate a successful outcome in regards to the Galvin situation and

2) Wests Tigers podcast forum also acknowledges that it was in the club's best interests to advance negotiations as early as possible to take advantage of the salary cap space that the West Tigers had available to it. This is something many in the media have tended to overlook
