I agree with the boys on the pod that Wakeham Brooks is probably the best we can do at the moment, but to me it prompts the question that in what management unironically call a "development club", why the hell isnt Laurie playing 6 in Reggies with Bula at 1?

Interestingly that is what is happening right now at training in Mittagong.

Im think we should give Charlie Staines a month or so at fullback to see how he goes. If he does well we can bring Bula (who from all reports seems to be the best natural athlete at the club) onto the wing. If he does not set the world on fire after round 11 we go with:

1. Jahream Bula

2. Charlie Staines

3. Brent Naden

4. Junior Tuopu

5. AJ or To'a

I still think Toupu could be like a Justin Hodges type centre. Big, strong with great footwork, good fend. Very difficult to handle for opposition centres. Can and will attract players and create opporunties for those inside and outside him. For a team with a lack of creativity in the halves which is struggling to score points (especially attacking on the line), him and Naden on either side will make a big impact on the team.

I too like most of us am looking forward to teamlist Tuesday. Im torn about Laure at 6. Part of me wants him in there because attacking wise he will be exciting, however I think the smarter option would be to play Wakeham and Brooks and give Laurie a few games at 6 in NSW cup and make him earn the position.

PS I hate Tigers having the BYE becsuse even though it causes lots of pain, I love watching the team!

Good pod guys … just on Eddie’s comment on whether Benji should play or not. It would be an upgrade on Brandon and we might actually win some games. I’d love to get that feeling back tbh. What else it would do is keep all the other players on their toes as well with the coach out on the field.
Does anyone know who the last player/captain coach was in rugby league? If he was to come back it would bring back memories of Garry Jack and Ellery Hanley back in the day with Balmain.

I say ‘Register yourself Benji’ It might get 15K crowd aswell 🤷‍♂️

Last Caption/Coach was Wally Lewis with the Gold Coast in 1991/92 I believe.

that’s right I knew there was one I’ve witnessed.
How did you feel Joel when Garry and Ellery come back? I know I was excited, as much as Benji has never been my favourite, it might just spark me atad more than recently.

Yeah I was at both return games for Jack and Hanley, both past it but still skilled and gutsy.

I always wanted to see Freeman come back and finish with the Tigers but that wasn’t to be.

I don't think Laurie will be in the halves this week, but he was at 6 for the seconds in the opposed session today.

Was Jacks return match at Parra Stadium? I was there for a game I thought was his return and the opposition got an intercept and ran 90m and Garry Jack was the only player who chased and caught the guy on the tryline but they scored anyway. he as always my favourite player and that effort summed him up for mine, as well as the apathy in the rest of the team.

Remember Hanley scoring against bears at Leichardt Oval on a Friday night game on his return season and also a good game he played at brookvale oval.

The Black Pearl in 1988 at a packed LO against Penrith was sensational

His come back game was against the Gold Coast at Parra Stadium. When then played the Crushers at the same venue a week or two later.

I think that might have been against Manly.

Yes, special days for Balmain fans ❤️

Benji can’t come back.

Totally agree, Benji’s body won’t be able to take the physical contact, he hasn’t trained for it.

Just one the halfback issue raised. I think a big part of this is that the 2020 and 2021 seasons were pretty much right offs with minimal games in lower games and juniors so halves missed that crucial time to develop. It really impacts that 18-21 year group.
