I reckon we will have a new 6 next year and Brooks will re-sign. The rumours that a deal with cowboys is all but done is way off the mark i believe. He’s testing the market but the tests are coming back negative at this point.

Think there is a high chance you are right Steve. I can imagine Brooks getting offers around or slightly higher than Tigers offer, but he probably cant be bothered to take his family to NQ and probably would rather be a 1 club player and ultimately go back to the Tigers who bump $50K-$100K and he stays. Only decision then is who gets the egg on the face for the backflip?

I find it interesting that Luke contacted Benji to tell him he’s rejecting the offer.
Not Lukes manager to Benji?
Not Luke or his manager to Fulton?
Reports are it was Luke to Benji - not sure what to read into that.
Must say Benji has managed to keep a pretty low profile all year, rarely is he in the media or the club’s propaganda - I guess he's purposely doing this.
Brooks recent good form coincides with Api settling into the side, and the sudden emergence of Bula. Good footballers play their best football on the back of good relationships and combinations with other players. There’s no better dummy half in the game than Api, and Bula is on a steep upward trajectory towards the games top fullbacks.

He’s rejected our offer so if he can’t get anything elsewhere he’ll have zero live offers for next year. Maybe my $350k prediction will come true lol.
could there still be hope? In Shane Flanagans own words...
“The question I did have for Ben Hunt - if I was lucky enough to get the coaching job, would you want to stay at the club, because there has been a lot of speculation that Ben Hunt wanted out, and I just wanted assurance that Ben Hunt would not [want to leave] if I got the job, and all of sudden Day 1 of my job I'm looking for a halfback," Flanagan said on air on Monday.
@tiger5150 Good old Gus working in the background on Hunt all the while denying any interest, this just looks like the JAC and Ciraldo deals all over again, we should have someone like that working for us
Payten has ruled out Brooks going to Cowboys. I wonder if Luke knocked the tigers offer back because he had something else on the go, or whether he genuinely is disappointed at the way he’s been treated? No doubt, WTs will look bad in how this turns out.

can't see how tigers look bad, they made an offer to Brooks they thought was reasonable and he has rejected the offer.
If anything Brooks and his manager look stupid if they don't have any other offers on the table.
if he is left without a club or on a deal with another club less than the 550k offered by the Tigers that is on the player.
@tigersteve I can see brooks signing , and us making a play for any of Walker, hunt,Schuster Fainu .
I feel bad for Brooks , but his form outside of the last 2 months has been not great . I get a lot of that really , if we are honest , is the toxic way that Madge wanted to play footy (no surprise that the Raiders , once a great attacking team , are now a grinding type footy team ). But he couldn’t transcend and we couldn’t win footy matches .
I said it earlier in the week a Fainu /hunt combo would be a great win for us .
And if anything is to go by , I can also really see Luke at the dragons , to join the rest of the tigers swaps recently .
It’s so funny . Everyone needs a half but no one wants brooks .
I guess the rub on him , must be he’s a losing footy player .
Our main competitive advantage is that we have massive cap space. Unfortunately our track record is that we can’t sign anyone in the prime of their career so likely we will need to barbell by overpaying someone at the beginning of their career (eg Fainu) and someone at the end (eg townsend) to make do until we can develop or recruit success

Very interesting point your make there. It's the very reason why I'm thinking Brooks would've lowered his pay rate to stay with Benji (more attacking) who he is good friends with.
It's just a dollar thing. Brooks has made a firm stance initially because this could be his last big payday and wants the best deal.
I still reckon Brooks can go to the next level with this rebuild.

The players are liable for personal income tax which is paid on the income earned during each financial year (1 July to 30 June). The top tax rate kicks in at $180k. If you front load a contract by bringing money from future years into this year it will only increase the amount of tax paid if the player earns less than $180k (as there are lower tax rates below $180k). Given the minimum NRL wage is $110k I wouldn’t think it would affect many players.
So if no tax implications front loading a contract benefits the player by him getting more money earlier. They call it the “time value of money”. For example the player can put this forward paid money into his mortgage and save (effectively earn) 5.75% on that money.
