At some point we need to stop front loading our cap and actually play a season with a full cap

Β

You must pay 95% of the salary cap each year. I'll be happy to spend the full cap when we finally have a roster worthy of filling the cap. We are a quality half away at least.

Β

that’s my point. We bring in Fulton to do one thing, recruit top tier talent. Pressure is on.

Β

Do you know that as fact? could be to work on pathways which is what he did at Manly. Personally I hope he fills our squad with young stars like Fainu rather than hail mary's on a Moses or Schuster. IMO that is the future of this club.

Blake Taafe has asked for a release to join the Dogs. Souths refusing.

Interestingly, that's Hawkins and Taafe now that have asked for early releases and both rejected. Also, both unsigned for next year, so not sure why they haven't signed on for another club by now.

When Fulton was appointed it was stated he would be working on NRL recruitment while McDonald looked after pathway recruitment.

Dogs have told Averillo and Alimoti they are free to look elsewhere. We should be trying to get one or both.

yes but was it sign top tier talent? Not sign Fainu/Trindall standard players?

speaking for myself only, I would be very disappointed if we sign a top level centre before a half.. I’d like another middle or lock before centre.Β

  1. I wouldn't put Fainu in the "standard player" bracket. He is the best junior in Australia.

Agree - we are decently stocked for centres with Naden and Toa, and Feledy not far away (plus AJ).Β

Tbh I’m surprised AJ isn’t getting game time. I thought he was one of our best during the first 8 rounds we didn’t win. Toa looks dangerous every time he touches the ball and whilst Naden is a talent he is also likely to do something stupid so that balances out his value. Would hope that we get a look at Feledy this year at some point in first grade.

So question is - who is now looking after pathway recruitment? If we are a development club?

AJ has some faults to his game but he 💯 showed in the early rounds he is worth persisting with.

  1. He has so much more talent then Talau.

I wasn’t impressed by Hawkins today. Looked too timid and didn’t take the line on at all. It was a good example of the risk in having two junior halves.

I wouldnt put him in the "top tier" NRL talent bracket either, which is the point Im making. people who are demanding that we sign "top tier" NRL talent are going to be disappointed and IMO rightly so.
