I'm more confident of getting Brooks playing well in 24 then Johnson.

Brooks had 1 good year out of 10. Surely you are joking.

@avocadoontoast he is not as bad a player as you make him out to be, I get you were hoping and willing him not to be re-signed but in all likelihood he will be.

If he plays 6 and we get Shaun Johnson he is a better option at 6 than Schuster.

@celtic_tiger I hope not Celtic,

Things will turn, I've jumped in and out of the level of passion for the club over the long 23 years.

So do what's best for you,  but we are here for each other and it's good to have you here.

In regards of Brooks, it sounds like the context was that AD was injured from playing 6 - which has pushed the decision regarding Brooks. They have obviously identified they need a experienced 7 and see Brooks as a back up 6 - which is at least a little encouraging that they aren't blindly committed to Brooks at 7

Top 8 2023

He is not a better option at 6 than Schuster, that is an absolutely ridiculous statement.

I would agree if AD was fit maybe Brooks doesn't get signed but at present as a 6 and his price point he is worth signing. The deal is probably only a year extension or 2 years Max.

Who knows who Fulton is targeting for 7, like to hope it is Ben hunt  but may well be SJ or townsend wants to come back to Sydney who knows.

And Benji

and Fulton probably since he runs the cap management

don't think everyone here is happy if Schuster comes to the club.

well you wanted SJ and Schuster and you may get SJ and Brooks  or Sanders and Brooks

wait and see how it all plays out

DT reporting Shaun Johnson has rejected the Tigers offer to remain in NZ. I think I need a break from Rugby League for a few years.

For me it all boils down to what options are available to us.

The way I see it, this is what is available to us, in the order I'd prefer.

1. Two new NRL quality halves

2. One NRL quality halfback (Johnson or similar) and Brooks at 6

3. One NRL quality halfback (Johnson or similar) and Wakeham at 6

4. One NRL Quality halfback and a reserve grade half at 6

5. Brooks and Wakeham

option 1 is the best option for everyone but also IMO extremely unlikely, then we go down the chain, 1 to 5. Based on our inability to sign first grade halves, option 5 is live.

I understand everyone wanting Brooks gone, and so do I for the club and his sake, but I'd rather Brooks than Wakeham in the firsts.

Could the Schuster stuff be happening in the background ?
remember it wasn’t but 3 weeks ago , getting him was all but a formality ?

I have no info , but disgruntled half , with a rich history with our new GM. And people like Anasta a few weeks ago saying it was all but guaranteed .We release a middle , which we haven’t been any stronger at any point in our whole history IMO. Frees up a lot of money …. For an overpriced half ?
Just speculating ….

Something's happening for sure. This has all happened since Fulton came on board so it would make sense. I hope so. I think Johnson/Schuster playing behind this pack could be potent.

Whilst not ideal, it would be a massive upgrade on our current pair, and any combination moving forward should not include Brooks, lets hope Fulton puts an end to this fascination with Brooks at the club

surely the fact that haven’t even started talking with Brooks yet is a sign he is done at the club.

Johnston/Schuster isn’t idea but definitely better than anything we have at the club at the moment

Normally I would say yes if it was any other player, but their fascination with Brooks has me scared he is staying

We'd be daft to offer him another deal (particularly as the #7), and he'd be even more daft to consider taking it up.

All this desperate scrounging around for halves is a really poor look and is the result of zero foresight or squad planning going back many years.

@avocadoontoast good positive attitude

You think he's going to come good after 10 seasons? Give me a break.

Yet you and I are the ones who should be careful what we wish for, even if it was Flanagan coming in, you seriously have to try something different, as Joel said it is insanity trotting Brooks out every week, every year hoping for a different result. Surely Fulton puts the brakes on the Brooks love, he can surely see our issue is now in the halves and both of them are not the answer moving forward.

The very definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Absofreakinglutely it is
