Tigers are cashed up and ready to spend

The Wests Tigers showed signs of improvement in the loss to Melbourne on Saturday night.

It’s interesting to note they are playing around $1m under the salary cap in 2022. The Tigers are forking out about $400,000 for Moses Mbye to play at the Dragons, while they also have close to $600,000 in unused salary cap space this year given their previous struggles in recruitment.

The Tigers are keeping a close eye on the player market in the hope of a mid-season signing, although they could choose to pay some of their current players in advance and free up more money to add to the 2023 signings of Api Koroisau and Isaiah Papali’i.

They had discussed pursuing Jack Bird but decided against making an offer. They are interested in Cronulla backrower Briton Nikora, who is off contract at the end of the year.

Saturday night’s loss continues a horrible run for the Tigers at CommBank Stadium, recording their 11th loss in 16 games at the venue in Parramatta.

Club is crying out for experience and we are $600k under the cap for 2022. If I was under the sort of pressure that Madge is I would be using every last dollar under the cap? Pretty poor look for him in my view.

We’re under the cap by that much and it shows in our roster. I think with the loss of Blore we’re one back rower short to start with.

Definitely a back rower short now. Don't mind Nikora, especially if we can get him now.

Parramatta Stadium is not a good hunting ground for us. From the very 1st game there, it was terrible.

From the Daily Telegraph

Tommy Talau - This is a sad story. Talau is unlikely to play this season after suffering a ruptured ACL last September. The damage was worse than an average torn ACL, meaning he‘s unlikely to see any football in 2022. He is banking on trust from the Tigers to earn a new deal.

In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

Oh crap. Poor bloke, just as he started to look good too. I guess a new deal will depend on who’s on the market. We should always be looking at who will move the squad forward the most.

Geeeeeze we have some injuries this year, Talau, Blore, AJ, AD, Liddle. We could do with some recruits.

Really have to look at our training facilities ....knee injuries in these amounts aren't an accident .....

looks like we’re still keen on Nanai. Haven’t really seen enough of him to comment on how much we should be paying but he has huge wraps and we do need more edge players.

We should sign Tom Gilbert from the Cowboys. Can’t see Nanai leaving the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are ready to re-sign Jeremiah Nanai as the game’s next million-dollar teenager but the second-rower wants a few weeks to weigh up his options.

One of those options is reportedly the Wests Tigers who have plenty of money to spend and have a big opinion of the 19-year-old.

“He’s off contract at the end of the year and the Wests Tigers are after him, they’re very keen on him,” NRL journalist Brent Read told Triple M.

“Apparently he’s told the (Cowboys) that ‘I want to wait a few weeks, see how the season goes’ but I think you’re going to find he’s going to be the next million-dollar teenager in this game.

“We’re talking three or four years at $1.5 to $2 millions dollars (total), that will be what I believe the Cowboys will offer, it just comes down to whether another club comes over the top of that but they’re desperate to keep him up there.

“He wants to wait three or four weeks but on his form (in Round 1) you’d say every week they wait his price is going to go up, he’s a gun.”
