Seems like this story isn’t dead.
Hilarious!. Its turning into high level farcical humour, and Im here for it. At this stage it has zero cost to the Tigers and cant hurt us, can only derail Parra. Rather than be impatient for the decision, Im sitting back and loving the chaos!!!
$7m for 5 years is very poor value for almost any player and should only be reserved for the truly exceptional players. At this time, I would only offer that money to Munster.
We did, didn't we?
Top 8 2023
I agree they were coups. I’d group them in that class of player just below the elite types of which there are only about 10 imo. Guys like Teddy, Turbo, Cleary, Manu, Latrell, Harry Grant, Munster etc I don’t think we could get.@russtutty63 In response to what you’re saying Russ I think it has to be said that the signing of API K has to be seen as a coup for the club, and pretty close to an elite spine signature I’d think.Great foresight and timing.Same applies to I.P though not a spine player but a great acquisition nonetheless.I don’t believe we broke the bank here but correct me if I’m wrong. In relation to Mitch Moses I believe it doesn’t warrant paying Munster money unless you’re seeing Munster outcomes, especially on a long contract.Red flags for mine, but ultimately a matter of opinion, and there’s no shortage of them on this matter..

Good points Russ and Symmetry. I add that I agree that we arent going to be able to sign the absolute top tier level like Munster and Teddy, but to sign the next level down, we are going to need to pay near top tier money, particularly for spine players.
Yes 100% agree with that.I agree they were coups. I’d group them in that class of player just below the elite types of which there are only about 10 imo. I’m all for that as long as Benji is given a great chance to succeed when he takes over and that means he’s given the squad he wants or as close as possible to it.I know we need a bit of skin in the game, but it might also be said that we could rue paying big bickies when trying to hold onto the youngsters that have been earmarked for big things, especially at this juncture of the season.Let’s have a closer look at the young talent over the next few weeks and see what happens.Something invariably presents itself in the course of a season and I would be more inclined to bid for rising stars whether from within or elsewhere.I think we now possess enough experienced heads to forge this path.
One issue is that you need to spend something like 95% of the cap. This advantages poor players in poor teams as they end up overpaid. If you are going to over pay anyone, better it is a top tier (though maybe not generational) player who can get you playing finals footy and puts you in the position to sign players for unders/keep talented kids/attract the marquee or franchise player.
@russtutty63 I’m with you there, and the good thing is that Benji will be keeping a keen eye on what’s developing junior wise.In the here and now the ambition is obviously to win the competition and that requires particular pieces to the jigsaw. As long as objectivity of the long term,is not being overruled by the overriding desire to win in the short term. We’ve just experienced the worst long-term salary cap turmoil, surely we don’t want to regress to that again. It was the long-term contracts that put us in the poo to start with. The player managers could smell our desperation and took us for a long ride,as well as to the cleaners.
No one really knows the actual figure as I thought it was 1.3m but for the 5 years compared to 1.25m for 4 years from Eels. We also dont know if a TPA in included in this and that might mean its 1.2m or 1.2m who knows.. I do know that he would make us a better team regardless of the price and he can kick goals and with this new game plan it would suit him to a tee..I still think signing him on that type of money is a huge mistake. He is a good player, but he simply won't deliver 1.4M worth of value for 5 years.
I don’t think api is next level down. I think he is top level, we just got in cheapI agree they were coups. On the topic of halfbacks , anyone who was lamenting the loss of Hastings after last nights game , can absolutely sleep easy .
as soon as Ponga went down , that team had no attack whatsoever. And I’ll argue that once the warriors figured out the knights attack was basically pass it to ponga , then it was handled real quick .
hastings offers no threat at all . He just shuffles it on 3 times a set and kicks a meh kick !
It’s strange to me this obsession with organisation . To the detriment of everything else .
Lachie Millar had to step up because Hastings didn’t offer anything .
that’s a huge problem when you have a guy like ponga who can get injured pretty often .
Regardless of how we go this year . I’m adamant the club has made the right decision on this .
@lestronge - Hastings will be no loss to us. There is a reason he has played for few clubs already. He has a good footy brain but is to big and slow for the halves.
I think the salary cap drama came from a reaction to losing Woods,@russtutty63 I’m with you there, and the good thing is that Benji will be keeping a keen eye on what’s developing junior wise.In the here and now the ambition is obviously to win the competition and that requires particular pieces to the jigsaw.
Tedesco & Moses. The club, and I include every supporter, wanted action once those players were gone. But there was no long term vision at that time, just a need to get in the market quickly to fill the gaps and give Ivan a good, competitive team. It almost paid off, 12 wins would’ve generally seen the club play finals but not that year. But it was a short term fix and didn’t address the greater systemic problems the club had been dealing with for some time previously, the problems still remained.
