So, who plays lock? Pole? Blore on the bench?

I think we’ll end up signing Nathan Brown and he’ll play there. Klemmer and Stef starting props, bench of Offa, Pole, Blore.

Yeah, Joe O starting prop with Klemmer I reckon, Stefano on the bench

I reckon we have one experienced prop starting and one coming off the bench. I think asking Stef and Pole to hold the middle is a big ask.

Yes! Finally Santa has delivered. Absolutely loving the build into next year and the fans of WTs have something to really get excited about.

Welcome aboard John.

There’s been some talk that Bateman might come with a fellow Brit with this guys name mentioned.

He looks a good finisher:

As much as I love a good try and try assist, I wouldn’t have minded a few defensive highlights as well. I remember getting excited by the super league gildart highlights this time last year and we all know how that ended.

Quite a few experienced rep players in the pack now, looks good on paper. But the real test will come when the injuries come. We have what looks like a good top 17  or so but outside that is a lot of ifs, buts and maybes. If (there it is) a few of those guys can show plenty of improvement during the season then we could surprise plenty.

I’ll get flamed for this but I don’t have Twal in my 17.

Great news about Bateman.

I love Blore but having Bateman in the team gives me so much confidence. He's leadership and creative attacking will be a huge asset.

Still worried about our spine though and think the 13, 7 and/or 1 needs to be addressed before start of season.

Top 8 2023

@avocadoontoast I had him missing my 17 too. It depends on what type of make up Sheens wants on the bench. I'd like a 13/9 type say Rua/Simpkin and a 2nd rower/centre type say Talau/Blore

Which leave 2 prop spots - with Joffa, Twal, Pole competing, assuming Klem and Ute start.

But I think he absolutely needs to find a way into the 17, as he's the type of player every team needs. Although given Sheens is all about attack and teal is all about defence- maybe not?.....

Top 8 2023

I don't really see a spot for Nathan Brown. I would rather have one of the younger guys start. We have a risk of losing some of the good juniors coming through.

I am looking forward to John Bateman giving it to James Hooper when he runs a classic rubbish Tigers story.

well he’s not that big Bateman… probably equivalent to Hastings. So I’d be playing him at lock. As long as he has some sort of passing game.

@frullens yep I’m with you. I think Pole is a better front rower than Twal and Blore is a perfect bench player as he can play on an edge or in the middle.

we don’t really have anyone that’s suitable for lock. I think Brown would fit into that role well while Matamua continues to develop.

@avocadoontoast Yes, was thinking a little about the bench after Bateman signed. I think Klemmer & Stef start, both big, one can offload and has plenty of experience starting and the other is big and tough, can bend the line a little. I think Joffa could be more effective if coming off the bench to play 45-50 mins & Pole could provide a bit of Spencer Leniu type impact in shorter bursts giving Klemmer a break. I think Matamua in that ball playing lock position would be ok too. A full off-season under him and now a couple of months to work with Api & the halves could see him start. But that’s one of those ifs, buts and maybes. See how the trials go I guess.
