TIGERS LOCK IN ROBERTS

The Tigers have officially handed James Roberts a top 30 deal. The Tigers enticed James Roberts back through a train and trial deal during summer but the ex-NSW centre has impressed enough to be given a full-time contract.

Roberts’ joined the Tigers last season on a cut-price deal. He played 11 matches in the top grade for the Tigers. Roberts is the 29th player contracted to the Tigers for next season, leaving them with one roster spot to fill.

He’s a better player than what we saw this year, fingers crossed he gets back into some form and gets some decent ball from his teammates in 2022.

Roberts did nothing last year to earn a top 30 spot. I would have been looking around a lot more before locking him down.

The fact we couldn’t get Cotric highlights the problems we have attracting players.

Welcome Harvey, I don't think we played to his strengths last year.

Don’t mind that at all. I still think Roberts has something to offer. His was criticised heavily last season, some of it was deserved but most wasn’t.

I agree Mike, just though they may have waited a bit longer.

@mike I don’t think he was at his best last year but in his defence he got zero early ball.

He needs early ball to be effective in my opinion.

The feed from the halves was diabolical for most of the season. Hopefully with Hastings there things will improve.

@mike we’ve been crying out for someone to lead the team around the park. I’m hoping Hastings is that man.

@garry absolutely. His speed is his main attribute and was stifled last year. Hoping we use him better this year.

@avocadoontoast yeah he needs space between him and the defensive line and a soread defensive line to burn defenders. We didn't provide that to him at all last year. I don't know if he is as fast as he used to be because we didn't put him in positions to use it.

It would be great to pick up another starting prop for 22. With Hastings, peachey, gildart we have new faces in key positions but a quality upgrade at prop would really complete a genuine transformation for 22 to build on. Now that it looks unlikely we get api or papalli early we should front load Thompson

I'm still not convinced on Thompson.

This is so disappointing. I don’t care how small a contract he is on. I don’t care how little ball he received this season. He’s not up to it.

I cannot for the life of me work out where this war chest we had for 2022 is gone?
