So, exactly how would the players be going backwards if accepting the deal offered by the NRL?
@tiger5150 Of course it’s ridiculous but to attract players, who are in high demand, to a club that performs poorly a five year offer might help, it might not, who knows for sure. But if I’m 28 and offered a five year contract on big money from a poorly performing club that is implementing change I look very seriously at it. I might be offered something similar from my current club but for only 3 years, wouldn’t you consider the switch? This is for players in high demand & being a club going through change mightn’t be enough of an attraction because, in Moses’ case, he’s just started a family and has maybe 7 years left playing at a high level.
The eels finished 14th vs tigers 9th in 2016, the year before Moses moved to eels. Clubs can change, what is unusual is the fact we have been stuck in the cellar for so long. We should start to be in the conversations with marquee players now where we gave a credible story that top 8 is achievable. It may take a little more on field success next year to convince but we are a club on the way up.

That’s a good point - easy to forget that the Eels are more often than not battlers.

@helmesy The Eels have finished in the top 8 twelve times since 2000 & been in 3 Grand Finals. They had that very poor period between 2008-2016 making the finals only once. Outside of that period of 9 years they’ve been very consistent, we have had no period since 2000 where we’ve experienced consistent success.

Yeah but I mean they tend to go real bad when the wheels fall off, we’re just more consistently partially competitive/mediocre.

It’s from Buzz so hopefully it’s nonsense ……Wests Tigers star Jackson Hastings and his manager Liam Ayoub have been spotted in Newcastle.
They were not there for a holiday or to check out local real estate, either.

In fact one very good source has told your columnist the pair caught up last week with a man who was the spitting image of Knights general manager of football Peter Parr.
It’s common knowledge the Knights are in the market for a halfback.
Jake Clifford has gone to the UK Super League and Adam Clune struggles compared with the good halves. It’s why they’ve been desperately keen to get Luke Brooks out of the Wests Tigers.
Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens insists Brooks will not be released.
Hastings, however, is a different story.
Sheens is not a fan. He even asked caretaker coach Brett Kimmorley to move Hastings to lock forward last season.
It was a ridiculous positional switch.
Hastings is a halfback and a much better player than Sheens gives him credit for.
He was probably the Wests Tigers’ best player over the entire season.
Yet Sheens has made it blatantly clear he has no future at the club by throwing around multimillion-dollar offers for the likes of Cameron Munster and Mitchell Moses.
Knights assistant coach Andrew Johns is a big fan.
“I think he goes really well,” Johns said, “he went to England to learn his trade and he’s come back a tremendous player.
“Some of his games this year were absolutely sensational.
“I did some work with him years ago at the Roosters.
“I found him to be a really respectable young fella.
“It’s hard for a young halfback at a club with big personalities. It can be intimidating.”
A St George-Illawarra junior, Hastings has played for the Sydney Roosters, Manly, Salford and then Wigan in the UK Super League, the Wests Tigers and now possibly the Knights.
The Knights would become six clubs since he started in 2014 yet he’s still only 26.
He is under contract at the Wests Tigers until the end of next season.

Not such a wise man, his career went down the toilet after he left and utter such a phrase.
i thought buzz and the drunk were mates when he came back from UK, things have certainly turned south as he is very quick to sink the boot in when he has any chance too.. what changed?
i meant to say Sheens and the drunk..maybe ive had a few too many 😆 😆
