The westslife pod guys are normally pretty good with mail from the club
I think this is crap.
I think that WT have not rushed to offer AD, Hastings or Laurie a contract and you can argue that is fair enough because we came last in 2022.
But you'd have to think that the Knights are getting Brooks. They have let Clifford go. As it stands they only have Gamble and Clune as recognised halves on their books for '23. There is no way that O'Brien starts the year with those guys in the halves.
Assuming Brooks is gone then there is no chance the club lets Hastings walk as well at least not in 2023.
Everyone is so quick to say that Sheens doesnt want Hastings in the halves because he is too slow. Is it worth noting that Sheens previously played John Morris in the Number 7.
Morris debuted on the wing. He was a lot quicker than Hastings
My opinion with Hastings is pretty much the same as Brooks. If we get a better replacement, he can go. If not he stays.
Im not on board the Hastings hype train. I do think he is our best 7, clearly our best organising half but a halfback with a sub standard kicking game isnt good enough. I think the hype regarding Hastings is purely a reflection on the lack of talent in our spine and Brooks lost form over the last 3 years.
I want Hastings to stay because he is simply the best option we currently have, but I am actually concerned about him staying because we should be building for success and if/when this team does start to build and challenge for semi's Hastings will not be good enough and IMO will in the long run (assuming we can fix things and turn things around) be a handbrake and fans will turn on him a la Brooks.
Some people are thinking Hastings to Dogs, could this be for 2023, who would you take in a swap?
Luke Thomson to help our pack ? if we can get Bateman here for 2023
Potential Hastings to Dogs, Kyle flanno to wests tigers
Option then
2023
7. Flanno
6. Brooks
centre. Douhie
or
Brooks also goes to Newcastle 2023
7. Flanno
6. Douhie
we get klemmer and Frizell
We came last.
When the key measure of success is winning and we failed at it the most then the personnel that got you to that position need to all be evaluated.
Hastings is no different in my opinion. His best attributes are his determination and on-field leadership. He lacks creativity and a short kicking game as evidenced by not making the top 50 for try assists in 2022 (Source: https://www.nrl.com/stats/players/?competition=111&season=2022&stat=35).
He is not the long-term answer at 7 for the club. The money is better spent elsewhere.

If Hastings goes ahead of 2023 then he opens up a spot, I think that’s more important than any Bulldogs prospects.

@helmesy who can you get for 2023 though ?
2024 will sort itself out, e.g. No Hastings, No Brooks, potentially no Douhie
Like I have said before No benefit releasing someone if we dont have someone better coming. I guess if Bateman comes over he can take Hastings 13 role for 2023, we are very thin if we have injuries though.

As things stand I reckon only one of Brooks or Hastings will be here in 24, maybe even 23.

I think there's a good chance all three of Brooks, Hastings and Doueihi will be gone by 2024.

I think so, just now to see who they replace them with.

Moses is in for his big pay day this time around. I expect him to stay at the Eels.

The issue for Moses is the clubs showing interest aren't contenders. Parra's window is probably closed now, and us and the Dogs both aren't great. I imagine we'll be more attractive if we can get Klemmer and Bateman (and possibly Frizell). Handy pack to play behind.
@helmesy Same here Joel. I’m not buying into all this he might go, he might not stuff. I’m thinking Hastings, Brooks & Doueihi will be here 2023. I think Hastings will go 2024, not sure where, maybe Dogs. Moses will probably stay at Eels, we’ll probably make a big play for him but Eels might pay good coin for lengthy contract. Shifty could well prove me wrong once again.
