@barra agree I also think if that back up plan was Hastings at 7 then Brooks may well have been released in 2023 if he asked for one to go to Newcastle.

I wonder if Newcastle may yet make a play for Hastingsin 2024 if he doesn't want to play 13 and Sheens insists on it happening.

Could we potentially see a scenario of Moses and Brooks as a 7 and 6 with Hastings moving on and Douhie moving on?. It is a long bow but both Moses and Brooks have the same manager and are still pretty good friends.

I don't necessarily know if that pairing would work though, as it didn't in the past but since then Moses has played a SOO and GF so maybe second time around it might

My opinion is if he signs with Newcastle for 2024 and asks for a release we should grant it. I think it's the fair thing to do and it gives us the opportunity to see Laurie in the 6 and give Staines a run at 1.

I can't without a replacement

@avocadoontoast we can still see Laurie at 6 in 2023 if we move Douhie to the centres

7. Brooks

6  Laurie

3. Douhie

13 Hastings

For the output he provides paying Luke Brooks a million dollars next year is criminal lunacy.

If there's any possible escape hatch from this onerous contract the we have to use it.

With the money you get from Brooks being released can get you a pretty handy utility and still have a chunk of cash leftover. If desperate can put AD in the halves.

I don't think Brooks changes where we finish on the ladder and therefore having him as our highest paid player makes zero sense. We're not winning next year, and if we make the 8 it wont be because of Brooks..

@jedi-tiger Yes, he's requesting an immediate release. He says he never wants to play for the Tigers again and is wearing a Knights jersey. Do you release him? Yes or no?

If the Tigers do not get favorable financial outcome then what is the point in releasing him?

I think if the knights really want him for 23 then they have to come to the party with the $$$'s otherwise he plays out his contract... whether that is in NRL or KOE Cup is up to how well Brooks plays to be honest because he would have clearly lost all the benefits of having long term Tigers contract.

Correct, we have other priorities ahead of a guy who is not an organising halfback.

The money is irrelevant. The replacement that you can get for next year is all that matters. Even if Newcastle pays full freight, it is totally pointless and irrelevant (you have to pay your full cap) unless we replace that roster spot with someone better than Brooks.

On a separate note, I dont understand brooks supposed desire to go to Newcastle. He is a Balmain boy, new broom through the club, new opportunities, new hooker feeding him. Lots of things on the up. Newcastle on the other hand look to still be on the way down with a poor coach and questionable culture.

Who are you replacing him with in 2023?

I bet Newcastle were saying the same thing when they punted Pearce without a replacement.

Let's assume Brooks is currently not on our roster, but all else is the same. Would you spend $800k to secure Brooks now on a 1 year deal for 2023?

Are you saying there is no better way for the Tigers to spend $800k in 2023 than Luke Brooks?

All this talk about we must take this opportunity Newcastle are giving us to take our overpaid halfback off of our hands for the final year of his Contract......has anyone stopped to think who is looking to take him and why?

Newcastle are desperate for Brooks....why? Because 12 months ago they made the same mistake that they are trying to get us to make (and a large chunk of our fans are screaming for). Pushed their overpaid halfback out of the club without a suitable replacement. How did that go for them? It was a disaster that they are still desperately trying to recover from, going into their second season without a suitable replacement. Imagine staking your career on signing Luke Brooks?

Who is to say things wouldnt be the same or worse for us? What elite halfback is knocking our door down?

Luke Brooks is out of form and not worth anywhere near his Contract value for next year (backdated) but things actually COULD be worse if we dont manage things properly.

Its a no from me dawg until we get a replacement.
