I nearly fell over today Tiger Steve when you agreed with Garry on the podcast today...first for everything 🙂

Truth be known, Garry and I are usually quite aligned - especially around footy talk. We agree more than we disagree

Much more, but that happens when you usually steal my ideas.

In serious though, we are usually on the same page. We usually disagree over me being too positive lol.

The Luke Brooks/David Klemmer swap between the Knights and the Tigers is officially off - with a twist.

The Tigers aren't prepared to swap a halfback for a front-rower - it's bad business in an era where list management makes or breaks clubs.

But the twist is that BOTH could be playing for the Tigers in 2023 - and Brooks may well be a Knight by 2024.

The Tigers are short of experienced big men and Klemmer wants out of Newcastle, so the dominoes may well fall into place there.

Incoming Tigers coach Tim Sheens is a big Brooks fan and wants to coach the veteran No.7, but his contract expires at the end of next season and the Knights see him as a priority.

Talks are ongoing - and the picture should get a lot clearer by November 1 when players are allowed to negotiate for 2024.

@helmesy it shows klemmer is still keen ans likely Sheens does not see Hastings as a 7 but 13 for the club.

Looks like Brooks still likely a knight in 2024 but as for 2023 Sheens will not let him go.

We need a prop from somewhere for 2023

@jedi-tiger If you are Tim Sheens and Brooks comes to you and says "I've signed for Newcastle for 2024 and I want you to release me for 2023", what are you going to say?

@avocadoontoast No different than  Papali or Api going to Parramatta or Penrith and saying in 2021 I have signed with tigers for 2023. Players sign a year out nothing unusual with that.

if I don't believe Hastings will be the 7 in 2024 I say you keep Brooks for 2023.

Brooks goes in 2024 and you get yourself a 7 e.g. Moses or someone if Sheens believes Hastings is only a 13.

What may happen is Brooks goes 2024, hastings gets offered a 7 at dogs or Parramatta or whoever. Douhie only wants to play 6 and club sees him as a centre and he signs elsewhere in 2024 to play 6

Also if Sheens doesn't give Newcastle Brooks in 2023 they literally have no 7, so they are at a disadvantage so makes sense to keeps Brooks for 2023.

@jedi-tiger Papali'i and Api didn't ask to be released a year early. I'm saying Brooks is requesting an immediate release and saying he no longer wants to play for the mighty WT. Do you still demand he stays, or do we put that money to good use?

@avocadoontoast is he asking for a release ? 2024 he has signed with Newcastle so he can go in 2024

JAC asked for a release from Storm, they had no replacement so the release was denied.

in Sheens opinion we do not have a 7 to replace Brooks so he stays.

@avocadoontoast I think if Sheens sees Hastings as the 7 long-term then release Brooks but I don't think he does. Given that is the case we keep Brooks for 2023

@jedi-tiger Yes, he's requesting an immediate release. He says he never wants to play for the Tigers again and is wearing a Knights jersey. Do you release him? Yes or no?

Unless we have a better back up plan for Brooks than we currently do within our ranks there is no way he should be released early.
I don't always like the stubbornness of Sheens but in such cases I'm a fan of him taking a stance, this time I can see the sense in it.

@avocadoontoast should clarify he didn't but a family member did mid season that he was looking forward to Sheens in 2023.

Think he may well leave in 2024 but don't think he is agitating for this immediate release to Newcastle that some believe he is
