I don’t agree Mike. We need to be smart and not overpay unless it’s a marquee player. I think Hastings is a solid halfback but he’s a long way behind players like Cleary, Moses, Reynolds, DCE etc.

Depends on how it's structured.
Brooks is on big bucks 2023, happy if Hastings got some of that money in 2024, he could go up to 850ish
But anything 2025 and beyond, when Benji starts coaching needs to be cap friendly

Well we disagree. I think he is exactly Reynolds like. Not a Cleary or Munster but definitely in the Reynolds mould. Don’t think we would be over paying him at all.

Im with you. For mine there is not that much between Hastings, AD & Brooks for market value. Id go Hasting $600k, Brooks $500K, AD $550K
I think if you pay Hastings below 700k then he is looking elsewhere to play a pure 7 role. It is pretty bare for halves and let's face it, as a 13 he is actually playing halfback with 2 5/8s. Is it worth the risk for him to walk? Apparently we have a lot of cash, you gotta spend it somewhere and the talent pool is pretty shallow at the moment. Moses is not coming back here after the rubbish that went down and the position we are in.
I think Hastings will show his true worth behind a potentially improved pack. He is not the quickest but with a bit more go forward he will have more time to show his bag of tricks. Max $650k based on what we have seen so far. If he has to carry Brooks then maybe Brooksy can chip in a TPA.
