@helmesy do we still have Brown as a hooker option or has he gone to Bulldogs
@avocadoontoast I think there is 5% chance of Hastings playing 7 without injuries hitting the halves.
So you're saying there's a chance? Lol

I very much doubt Hastings re-signs with the club to play 13.
Why would he with the increased workload and associated risk of injury.
If we don't play him at 7 someone else will.
think Hastings will re-sign to play 13
I think Hastings will sign where he gets the most money. His next Contract is an important one.

No announcement either way at this stage.

You're absolutely right about his next contract being an important one which is why I don't believe money will be the only consideration.
Playing at lock has the potential to curtail his career by a couple of years due to the increased potential for collision injuries and concussions and if another team offers him the 7 jersey on decent money, comparable to the Tigers, I reckon it would be a no brainer for him.
He is the best 7 at the club by a country mile I'm jot too sure why we wouldn't play him there.

If we are looking to play a more attacking, open style of football, then the argument could be made that he isn't dangerous enough, has low line breaks, line breaks assists, tries, try assists etc. He is very good organising the play though.
My belief is all out halves have major deficiencies and to get the required skill set for our halves we need 3 people at present to provide them when we should be relying on 2. Each of our halves have a major flaw in their game, Hastings included.

I agree with this. I've said a lot that I don't think Hastings body will hold up to the weekly punishment of playing in the middle, and I if I were him i'd much rather play halfback. If we're offering him to play lock and another club offers him halfback for the same money, it's a no brainer. He'll have a longer, more enjoyable career at 7.
you never know we might lose Brooks and AD for 2024 that would be around 1.6 million to spend and have
7. Hastings
6. Laurie
1. Munster

Our halves are a huge problem. Hastings is the best because he's the only one who can organise a game, but his lack of pace lets him down.

Brooks
Doesn't organise well but has pace and defends well
Hastings
Doesn't make line breaks and is slow, organises well
Douhie
Doesn't defend well and doesn't ball play well but kicks well and runs well.
I kind of wonder if we end up losing all 3, I just don't think Sheens sees Hastings as a 7. Brooks might chase the cash with parramatta or Newcastle and Douhie might head to Storm.
Leaning towards us getting one of Moses or Dylan Brown problem is neither are great players but they seem like Sheens players.
Could it end up

Hastings has deficiencies but he is easily the best half at the club and if he signs elsewhere come November 1st where does that leave us.
Talk of Moses, Munster or Brown to the Tigers is just fanciful nonsense designed to bump up their respective asking prices. Moses and Brown in all likelihood stay at Parra and Munster either stays at Melbourne or goes to Redcliffe for the coin.
That would leave us trying to assemble a halves pairing from Brooks, Douhei and Laurie who hasn't played a single minute in the halves for us and this petrifies me.
Retaining Hastings is an absolute must for us to have any chance of being successful in the short to medium term.

If we dont get off the bottom of the table next year it wont matter how much money we have, they wont come.

AD doesnt kick well at all. He has a good floating bomb that comes off aroudn 50% of the time. Zero short kicking game, not really a long kicking game. AD runs well.
