I’ve long been of the opinion that the more good, experienced players in our squad we have it will help Benji, guys capable of leading on & off the field. It’s why I was so keen on Reynolds, that and his kicking game obviously. In my mind I have little doubt AD is entering the best part of his career. His first 90 games were full of injury interruptions & positional switches, hardly conducive to great football. He’s turning 27 soon but has still only played 113 games. His next 4 or 5 years, or 120 games if not many setbacks should be his best. He’s a mature player with footy IQ and a kicking game, his defence is improving as well. In terms of what we can offer very much depends on the Cap & how much we have planned to spend on real areas of need.
@garry with the Javon Andrew’s signing , as I’m sure we didnt sign the game winning u19s origin half to muck around in jersey flegg , i can see either one of 2 things happening .
we sign AD he excels at lock and with the introduction of the bears and PNG, his value sky rockets , or he’s middling and it sort of works , but we groom Andrew’s to take over and there’s overlap between the two. .
We have to be careful though . Bula will want an upgrade , The May brothers will have their hands out , 1 sooner than the other , and whilst he has been identified as the heir apparent to Api , Hayward will no doubt have the same grubs sniffing around him , that sniffed around And eventually managed to sway the likes of TDS and the insipid one .. although i don’t think it’s gone unnoticed that the kids who seem the most loyal to the club seem to have roots in the Balmain system for whatever reason historically .
Just curious, can anyone think of a half in recent times who is on about $350,000 a year having the impact AD had on that game Sunday? And I agree with everyone I’m sure Latu is 7 and AD 13 moving forward by the way. But was trying to think of a half not in big money having that kind of impact on a game in recent times. There probably is, just unsure of who. Maybe Metcalf is on less than $400,000 but doubt it.
Yes. And while he has shone at #7 in a couple of games, if we can resign AD for a couple of years we can surely work him into the #13 while Latu matures? If so, we don't need to go to the market for a 13 - he's already here!I’ve long been of the opinion that the more good, experienced players in our squad we have it will help Benji, guys capable of leading on & off the field. @russtutty63 The question is would AD be as effective on a dry track .. the weekend game was a one off basically running in a pool of water if the weather was dry Latu would of been 7 . All the talk about AD is over blown he is a back up and that’s his level , the team needs a high impact 13 and AD is not that the club has just signed 2 halved for next season Latu is the next man up . So where does that leave him he will not be the first choice 7 he is 3rd on the list and the centres are full !
If AD is offered 500k he should go to the dragons 100%. They have terrible halves and he guarantees better money. I would cheer him on.

AD has had that impact before, then he develops sticky fingers and plays terrible for the next couple of months.

I thought AD was fantastic yesterday, probably dont win without him and he came up with some big plays. What I would add though is none of those big plays were halfback plays. Everything he did could have been done from 13 or centre (couldnt kick like that from centre).
I think we should offer AD 400K for one year and see how the off season goes as to who plays half between he and Latu. I’m not against Latu playing 13 at all, or even 14. The elephant in the room is how our marque goes in the off season imo. I’m also not against Jock playing some 7 either.
Maybe best case scenario is
1 Bula
6 Luai
7 Madden
13 Doueihi
14 LFainu
Agree, as a 7 he is too much of a ball hog in my opinion. He usually goes for the line break and if he doesn't get through, he runs sideways or passes it to a player standing flat footed. In the game against the dogs he got lucky capitalising on a few spilled balls and shoddy defence. The wet weather also had everyone playing in slow motion, which suited him. I'm sounding like an AD basher and I am not, however we should not break the bank and pay what the dragons are willing to pay because in reality I don't think we need him as much as they do. $400k x 2 years is what he is worth to us...taking on his inconsistency and injury history is a risk, so I don't think $500k is good value.Just curious, can anyone think of a half in recent times who is on about $350,000 a year having the impact AD had on that game Sunday? Steve is reporting Maverick Geyer has signed with us.
Wests Tigers Podcast - Talking everything Wests Tigers!
Mavrik Geyer is set to join Wests Tigers on a one-year deal after Penrith told the son of club legend Mark Geyer there was no position for him at the club beyond this season.
Geyer’s Panthers contract expires at the end of this year. The 24-year-old back-rower has played 13 games for the club since making his NRL debut last season but has been limited to just two games this year.
Geyer informed Panthers teammates of his exit from the club at a team meeting on Wednesday afternoon and his decision to ink a one-year deal with the Tigers under coach Benji Marshall.
The edge forward is a handy pick-up for the Tigers, who have been looking to bolster their depth in the back row. Geyer will join Newcastle forward Kai Pearce Paul at the club in 2026.

I don't hate this, could be a handy first grade back up and fulltime KOE player. I'm guessing Jerome gave Benji the lowdown on him. We also would not have broken the bank, as I'm guessing it's a minimum contract and he probably wants to follow in his fathers footsteps and hook up with the Perth team in 2027.Mavrik Geyer is set to join Wests Tigers on a one-year deal after Penrith told the son of club legend Mark Geyer there was no position for him at the club beyond this season.
