@helmesy can we bookmark the potential of Laurie's contract to be 350k for final years because I'd history is anything to go by nrl360 and rothfiedl with have that contract blown out to 550k in a year's time
At the moment the problem with Laurie is the gap between his best and worst football .....with all the quality fullbacks running around ...and those not playing fullback (ie Manu ) we can find a better more consistant fullback
I still reckon he’s a five-eight.
Just not sure he will stand up to making 20-25 tackles every week
Yep that's my biggest concern with him playing 5/8 too. Maybe in a few seasons if he bulks up a bit?
The worry is if he bulks up he loses his elusiveness
The North Queensland Cowboys are reportedly still holding out hope that Michael Maguire's exit from the Wests Tigers could allow Luciano Leilua to leave the club early and make the move to Townsville before the August 1 deadline.
Leilua, who is among the Tigers' best players, has already signed with the Cowboys for the 2023 season and beyond.
It's known that Leilua was close with Maguire, and now according to The Daily Telegraph, he could be in the Cowboys' targets again, although hasn't been keen to walk out on his teammates previously.
The Cowboys have expressed interest previously in securing Leilua immediately, with reports suggesting they have the salary cap space to sign him.
North Queensland's plight for another second rower has been made all the more important following an injury to Heilum Luki, sustained during Friday evening's victory over the St George Illawarra Dragons.
It has been reported that the young gun - who was in the starting team for Jeremiah Nanai, who was rested after State of Origin Game 1 on Wednesday - has injured his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.
While Tom Gilbert has played with plenty of success on the edge this season, and Nanai is also playing excellent football, it will now leave Connelly Lemuelu and Ben Condon to squabble over the final bench spot.
The Tigers would appear unlikely to release the star forward though, with Leilua a major part of their side and likely to be extensively used for the remainder of the season as the Tigers attempt to steer themselves off the bottom of the table following just three wins across their first 12 games before they had a bye last weekend.

May as well let him go ...seems upper management don't care about this season anyway

If 2023 is the target then may as well let him go if there is a tangible benefit to the target ie blooding a replacement, utilising his $ elsewhere etc.

Is there a NQ 2RF we are targeting that we can swap now?

TIGERS COUP
The Wests Tigers have signed NSW Waratahs and Randwick rugby centre Tristan Reilly. He is a 23-year-old from Kempsey who had been earmarked as a future Wallaby. This is a handy signing for whoever gets the Wests Tigers coaching job.”
Does anyone know anything about him?
@kenny4517 A future Wallaby that would not be hard with that pack of losers! Wait and see I suppose .

I dare say we did sign him seeing as WTs has a thing for vertically challenged outside backs.
Tristan’s a 23yr old who is about 180cm in height.
@snake that’s all we can do is wait and see. We need a player clean out, going by today’s performance. Too many players the same and players that too good for Reserve grade but not good enough for Nrl level.

We looked unfit.

He goes OK

We have every year since Cleary. When we look competitive (first half this week and last week), our line speed in D is good, we have multiple options in attack, runners in motion. Simple stuff. Lasts about 45 mins. There is not that much difference with the top teams except they do it for 80mins.
Despite the disparity in talent, we can be as fit or fitter than our opposition and I can not forgive Madge for this. Its inexcusable. Its poor training or worse tactics. We have Jock Madden on the bench for gods sake,
KNIGHTS HUNTING ANOTHER TIGERS PLAYMAKER
After reportedly making a big play for Luke Brooks in the off-season, the Knights have now set their sights on Jackson Hastings.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported the Knights have had discussions about luring Hastings to Newcastle for 2023.
Hastings is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2023, but after Michael Maguire’s departure his future at the club remains uncertain.
Hastings’ management share a close relationship with Knights recruitment manager Clint Zammit.
Hastings is currently on a deal worth $375,000 in 2022, but that increases to around $500,000 next season.
The Tigers also have Adam Doueihi and Luke Brooks signed for next season, while Jock Madden is off-contract this year and is looking for a new deal at the Tigers or at an NRL rival.
The Tigers have a mandate to develop the youngsters coming through the ranks, which opens the possibility of Hastings moving on to secure a long-term deal elsewhere if he is not part of the club’s future plans.
That would be a tough pill to swallow for Tigers fans as Hastings has been one of their best players this season.
