Who could possibly afford Haas at this stage of a season unless you massively backloaded him .....

That’s a good point…but if we were $600,000 under the cap, take out Mikaele (maybe $300,000) you’re getting close…

900 k for a half season ...overs slightly lol

@jedi-tiger AD is a very dangerous runner of the ball and nowhere near as slow as people make out. In my opinion he also has a far better passing and kicking game than brooks.

AD was able to play well last year at 6 with Brooks at 7. Imagine how he’ll play next to a quality 7 like Hastings.

AD still has an awful lot to work on as a 6.

Brooks has much more work to do, and he’s already had 9 years to work on his game. AD has huge talent and massive upside and has the potential to be an outstanding player.  Brooks will never be an outstanding player, even though he’s on outstanding money.

I wasn't talking about Brooks though,  AD needs to learn when and how to play early. This will make him a much more dangerous player and allow him to improve the game of the players around him. Until he does that he is a better centre than 5/8th, it is why I would have loved him to get the preseason.

I'm sure Hastings will be quick to tell him when he gets it wrong. How AD takes that criticism is anyone's guess!

Haven't you seen they have turned it into a "Gritty drama"

In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

The Wests Tigers have opened negotiations with Daine Laurie about an extension after meeting with his manager on Monday. Laurie is on a bargain-basement deal with the club for less than $200,000 this year.

That increases to about $350,000 next year for the final season of his three-year deal with the club. The Tigers are willing to upgrade and extend his deal.

The Wests Tigers and Daine Laurie are believed to be in discussions on a new deal that will see the young gun fullback extend his stay at Concord beyond the 2023 season.

Laurie is currently tied to the Tigers until the end of next year on a deal priced below what he would gain in offers from the open market, having joined the venture club from Penrith after just three NRL matches ahead of last season.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a sensational tenure since arriving at the Tigers, albeit with injury setbacks, and is now likely to gain a bumper new deal to remain in the black, white and gold.

Laurie recently told News Corp of his desires to remain in Sydney's west, placing a focus on his football while his manager weighs up discussions with the Tigers.

“Hundred per cent, I definitely want to stay,” Laurie said.

“My manager is working on that in the background so we‘ll see how we go. I just want to get out there and play good footy.

At the moment the problem with Laurie is the gap between his best and worst football .....with all the quality fullbacks running around ...and those not playing fullback (ie Manu ) we can find a better more consistant fullback

I still reckon he’s a five-eight.

I do too. I remember Phil Gould also said that when he was asked on Twitter.

Just not sure he will stand up to making 20-25 tackles every week

Yep that's my biggest concern with him playing 5/8 too. Maybe in a few seasons if he bulks up a bit?
