I don't mind the Sullivan deal, however I'm curious about what we will be tipping in over the next 12 months....sounds like he has clauses in his favour, so perhaps that was the trade off? i.e. we give you all the power over your destiny and a guaranteed job for 3 years, you get coached by Wayne, and get to showcase your skills as the back up half to a 34 yr old and an almost unknown quantity from the UK. It's highly likely you will get plenty of game time. But you take a pay cut for the next 12 months or even the next 3 years.
Wishful thinking perhaps.
why would he take a a pay cut. He has a contract and is willing to commit to the team club don’t want him.I don't mind the Sullivan deal, however I'm curious about what we will be tipping in over the next 12 months....sounds like he has clauses in his favour, so perhaps that was the trade off? i.e. we give you all the power over your destiny and a guaranteed job for 3 years, you get coached by Wayne, and get to showcase your skills as the back up half to a 34 yr old and an almost unknown quantity from the UK. Under those circumstances I whould not take a cut nether should he
Smith isn’t back until round 17 next year so I would be surprised if we signed him.
I dont think we need Hetherington or any others.
Focus on what we have now and work on combinations
We need to strengthen the right edge
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
The reporting that he seems to have a player option, to stay at souths for year 2, come back to the tigers year 2 and/or 3 or move elsewhere seems to be very favorable for him. That's why I'm wondering if there is some sort of trade off. I'm happy for Bud to get the best deal he can, has always put in and remained positive, unlike some others. I also think the bunnies is the best place for him at the moment. A dodgy starting halves pairing and a very experienced coach that has developed some great young halves.why would he take a a pay cut. The whole club not wanting him thing is sometimes overblown and not as negative as it sounds...they took a punt on a kid that was out of favor in his club, gave him a solid 3 year contract and an opportunity to grab a starting spot. He was not able to do that, and we uncovered a young 5/8 and bought a marquee half. Doesn't look like they are making his life hell to get him to walk and it looks like they have been able to cut a deal that is very favorable to him. I would say the Tigers have handled the situation exceptionally well and it looks like a win/win for both parties.
Smith and May are buds. Smith would be a good get providing he has no further major injuries. He wouldn’t be available until halfway through 2025 and I would want to see how he holds up first before signing him.Smith isn’t back until round 17 next year so I would be surprised if we signed him.
Cheese is 29, Not sure I want him here if he wants Top Dollar.
He hasnt shown the form from back in Melb
I was keen on Smith but some of the stuff he says on his podcast are a bit of a red flag. For example he says things like he is happy that he is injured because he doesn’t have to do the preseason in the heat. I get he’s a larrikin etc but I much prefer the example that a Luai is providing to the young guys.

Its a no from me.....Roosters is the perfect club for Cheese. he can do some great things but the team isnt dependent on him and other players are carrying the weight. Tigers arent there yet and need players willing to carry the team on their shoulders a la Api & Luai.
I think the roosters are terrible for him, he is a lock and they already have one of the best in the comp in that position. My biggest concern is how he fits into the culture ie does he have the ability to grow up and stop being a clown and the other is how does he fit our game plan ie we have very creative/on the ball 6/7/9 plays do we want another guy who wants to do his thing or are we better going for the power game extra prop in the middle or a distributor (half in a props body). Benji and Richo have moved past just buying what becomes available and given they had targeted Hetherington (workhorse) it tells me they won’t be interested in Smith
Sullivan is now only a one year deal with souths and back to Tigers in 2026
damn
I think I know the answer but is there a case for us chasing Leo Thompson for 26 to replace klemmer (using klemmer $)?

Well yes, but he is now in the shop window and it opens up the opportunity for him to find a better deal for those seasons and beyond.

I’d certainly take him but I think he’s heading elsewhere and might have been overpriced anyway.
