With South Sydney the latest club to be offered John Bateman (with the Tigers willing to pay a portion of his estimated $600,000 salary), another back-rower sits atop the Tigers’ wishlist should his exit open up a top 30 spot.
Sione, or someone from outside?
We need to sign a backrower before we upgrade Sione.
frizell?
If would consider him for 2 years but his age concerns me a fair bit.
But he does seem pretty robust so could be worth a look. Where you playing him? Lock or right edge?
right edge in my view. A defensive hitman next to Galvin on the right. He’s old but has always been fit and durable. Also gives room to plan for a young replacement in 2027. He should also be fairly cheap given he has a contract for 2025 and a mutual option for 2026 for a knights team trying to restructure their squad.

Right edge for me

Only if from 2025. IMO 2026 should be his last

100% you wouldn’t go more than 2 years.
My tip is still that Hetherington comes this month.

I would be trying to get Hetherington.

Hunts deal with broncos still unregistered I believe due to bronco cap issues. It’s odd that they are so adamant to keep a backup lock.

So true! And surely Hetherington is keen to getting a starting spot elsewhere? Dominos might soon fall 🤞

I’ve no idea how much cap space the club would have left if JB goes & whether or not they’ll give his spot to Sione. They could also move another player from the top 30 on over the next month or so. But they have already shown their hand in terms of offering Hethrington a contract so that could still happen. I personally like the idea of Frizell because he’s a terrific edge backrower and I’d like Benji to have as many highly experienced players in the squad as possible. Not much news out of Knights lately although some stories around Thompson & Ponga so they have work to do over there too.
Also the stronger your edge backrowers the less you have to rely on the centres making the impact. And defensively a highly experienced edge backrower should be able to help.I’ve no idea how much cap space the club would have left if JB goes & whether or not they’ll give his spot to Sione. I like the idea of Frizell though only for 25 and 26. Never lets his team down, very consistent and impactful. To be honest I have never been sold on Hetherington....although I haven't really watched him play that much.
I would also support a Frizell signing for '25. In fact I think he is exactly what we need and importantly he would sure up the defence on that side.
I think Frizell would be a terrible signing. Would have been great a couple of years ago but now past it. He would be Klemmer 2.0
Luai has player options years 3, 4 and 5. Big disappointment.
