Douhie, Feledy, Staines, Matamua, Naden, Seyfarth, tumeth all off contract next year and all have represented WT in first grade. I can see the value in Seyfarth perhaps but that is 6 other top 30 slots that we should be recruiting for 2026 now and not be waiting to see what falls out of a tree. We need to be going after representative level (state or international) lock/2RF/prop and maybe centre. Also zero tackle reporting Galvin on only 250k this year and 350k next. We have a massive massive ability to pay him more than any other club by upgrading this contract. He should be on a 5 year deal (upgrade 2yrs, extend 3). That will still only take him into his mid 20s. It would be malpractice for his agent not to accept that

Yes we have to use our competitive advantage.

will be very interesting to see how Maguire uses Hetherington, especially since they want to extend him now. If he’s just used as mainly a fringe bench / Q cup player there could be every possibility we still get him some time through the season or like Joel said Maguire is just very bitter lol.

It’s probably not so simple. Of the six you mention Feledy, Tumeth & Matamua would be on minimum or close to it, about $180,000 each. The other three about $250,000-350,000 so not big money. At least 5 would need to be replaced. You can’t spend over what’s available so you either backload, front load or look for players at around that $250,000 mark to fill the spots, not easy. You could promote young guys as well. Whatever the case there’s not a lot left to upgrade. If Klemmer isn’t kept on his money might go elsewhere but what are the chances they’ve already used it on the assumption the clause wont be activated or he might want to retire, leave, whatever? They might’ve already talked to him about this, I’d hope so just to see what his intentions might be. There’s also Makasini being promoted to top 30 and given he was in demand elsewhere he might be on a decent contract as well. If they can get a club to pay most of Bateman’s contract it might help but what about another edge or are we happy with Seyfarth who would also need an upgrade?

@garry I feel like we are or have been trying hard and either Galvin wants to see how things go this season or Moses will say put yourself on the market because clubs will end up paying top dollar whether he’s earnt it or not. Thoughts?

It really does feel like a make or break season for Matamua and Feledy at the club, from what Richo said it seems like Matamua gets it. I believe we'll see an improvement in Staines' focus and quality next season with a better team around however i think his cards are marked with the younger guys coming through.

Interested to know what people think will happen to Klemmer next year. With him needing to play 14 games to trigger a mutual option do we think he'll get there? We seem to have a little bit more depth in our middles than we did last year (quality is arguable), he's definitely on the decline there could be genuine reasons to leave him out of the team at times during the year?

There’s probably some of that, the manager not doing his job if he hasn’t raised any of that. And Lachie wants to win so…

For me the advantage we have now is this connection to the community. Add to that the Luai factor & his own experience at Panthers. He knows about that connection. My hope is he has a great chat with Lachie about it. Lachie could give the Tigers the next 5 years & hopefully be part of something incredibly special. He could still make a lot of money through the club & third party deals. After that who knows?

Tough one with Klem, not sure how it will play out. My hope is he plays well & makes it difficult for Benji not to pick him. If he does then good luck to him and us.
Anything could happen between now & the beginning of the season so that’s another thing to consider although I expect he’ll be here. He might even not want to play on after this season or he might desire a change and want to end his career elsewhere. Hopefully he has a great year at the Tigers regardless & he helps us play finals.

I believe they will be sitting down with Galvin in the New Year to try and get something sorted. He is on around $250k next season and $350k the year after. If we upgrade him to $800k the next 2 season then that is an extra $1m in the next 2 years that he can't get anywhere else.

Manly has cooled on the prospect of Bateman.

I think we might be stuck with this barnacle.

What those 2 agreed to terms. Considering some we’re saying no one wants to come to the club and play under Marshall i

am very surprised

Personally, I think that's unlikely as Bennett knows footballers who are team players and will add to the harmony and culture of the group. Doueihi is not that guy. He's more likely to end up at STGI for no reason other than Flanagan can tout it as a gain. It won't be, IMO.
