With Ken, Noffa, Naden, Gildart, AJ, talau and tupou, do we have enough outside backs now ie no need to keep investing there. Even in the halves it’s 4 into 2 next year. For mine as much as I think Daine has good attributes I tend to think if we pick up Crichton we would only be looking at a fullback and maybe prop for positions where a marquee quality signing is needed.

At prop I would go for Thompson from the Bulldogs, Gus will clear decks to help rebuild and Thompson is one of their highest paid players. He has played international football with Hastings and Gildart and seems the type of player who would have a Maguire mentality. If the bulldogs could put in 200k of his salary I think he completes our pack.

At fullback I would be targeting one of the Raiders players. They gave CNK, savage and Hopoate who are all a cut above Daine as a total package and they wouldn’t break the bank either.

@geo-2 rumor that he was one of the players that had the flu but he was very ordinary for them regardless.

To say he’s puss is a ridiculous comment. He couldn’t train with the team and still did 80 metres in 36 minutes and made over 30 tackles. Good effort to even get on the field.

“Laundy is actually a mad-keen Wests Tigers supporter.

He has become close to their general manager Tim Sheens, who invited him to the Wests Tigers chairman’s suite for the match against his Bulldogs on Friday night at Leichhardt Oval.“

Makes no sense if you’re a fan that you could be so supportive of another club.

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire says he wants to keep hold of Jock Madden after the playmaker’s agent touted him for a potential move to the Dolphins.

Madden has shown plenty of potential since making his debut last season. However first-grade opportunities have been few and far between and there is talk of him moving on.

The Dolphins are in the hunt for halves ahead of the 2023 NRL season and Madden could be an option. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph Madden’s agent Chris Orr says his client would consider such a move.

Madden on Dolphins radar

The 22-year-old is desperate to play regular first-grade footy and maybe Wayne Bennett could offer it.

“He would certainly consider a move to Queensland if the Dolphins were keen,” Orr told the publication. “Jock just needs a team to give him the Number 7 jersey. Now whether that’s going to be the Wests Tigers in due course or someone else, he needs a chance to be the seven and run a team. That’s what he wants to do.

“Jock would stay at the Tigers depending on where the club sees him. Do they see him as a fill-in at halfback or do they see him as the long-term solution at No.7? If that’s not the case, then Jock will be looking at a club that wants a genuine starting halfback.”

The Tigers are well blessed for halves, hence why Madden’s opportunities are limited. Maguire has Jackson Hastings, Luke Brooks and Adam Doueihi.

Brooks and Doueihi are both injured at the moment and Madden got the chance to shine against the Bulldogs on Friday night. He did not disappoint in the 36-22 win either.

Wests Tigers have a decision to make

Maguire was glowing in his praise after the game and is not surprised to hear of the interest. It remains to be seen if the Tigers can give Madden what he wants. But Maguire is keen to keep him.

“I’m sure when you perform like that a lot of people are looking at you,” he said after the game. “I really enjoy coaching Jock, he’s doing a really good job for us so I’m sure all that will sort itself out.

“I definitely want to keep him, he’s a good player. He’s the style of player that I like, he’s very thorough in his game.”

Madden now just needs to keep performing while Brooks is out of the side. But with Doueihi also closing on a return his long-term prospects do not look great.

Well our 7 is absolutely sorted and I think overall he’s third in line for the 6 so not sure where he fits.

Sure, he shows attacking flair but can he sustain that once opposition teams put more focus on him. Still developing  his kicking and defensive game.

I like some of what I’ve seen but he’s not replacing Hastings, Brooks or Doueihi imo

Is there any chance we could re-sign Madden then loan him out next year?

Other than the Dolphins, Jock wont walk into a starting halfback role at too many other clubs. Newcastle is probably the only club that is crying out for a number 7.

Could we loan someone from Newcastle and ship Madden there for 2023?

If he’s in our long term plans but unlikely to see any top grade next year then a loan or swap sounds a good idea. Madge said he likes Madden and wants him to stay so the idea is not without merit

Controlling halfbacks are as precious as gold in the nrl.

Just see the difference Hastings, Reynolds, Townsend have all made.

I'd sign but Hastings and Madden on long term deals. Stockpile as many 7s as possible.

Madden can be loaned ideally to super league to learn his craft for 2 or 3 years - then we can reassess - keep him, or swap him for a keep player

Top 8 2023
