Is there a scenario if we miss Ciraldo where we can sign payten for 24 and employ interim for 18 months? Or is that untenable? I’d prefer that than a Flanagan or even a Morris

I think it is workable for sure. Noddy steers the team on the field and Sheens and Payten plan ahead for 24.

Assistant  coaches play a huge role in how teams go in modern footy setups. Wonder who Ciraldo,Payten or Morris would bring in to work with them if they got the gig?

If we are talking development Coaches why has Flanagan been ruled out..

He took Cronulla from 14th to a Premiership..

Not a lot of Coaches have done that.. they may be like Brian Smith or Brad Aurther get en to finals but can't go that extra mile..

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t that purely due to the fact Cronulla was cheating during that period?

Tigers head of football and premiership-winning coach Tim Sheens doesn’t even know Ciraldo, and is yet to speak to him about the top job at Leichhardt, but has been around long enough to spot talent from afar.

“I want to stress there are a number of candidates we’re looking at [to replace Michael Maguire, who was sacked on Tuesday],” Sheens told The Sun-Herald. “I don’t know Cameron, and I’ve never sat down and met him face to face. But if you’re asking me about Cameron, I guess what stands out about Cameron is his attitude towards developing younger ones, and his background in doing so.

“That’s not to say he can’t work with senior players. There are already quite a few senior players at Penrith who have indicated they love working with him. I think it’s the harmony within that club, and when you’re an assistant coach, you have a fair bit to do with that.

“What also appeals for us is he’s open-minded to the way the game is played. Penrith play a good open style of footy, and he has some input into that. I’m taking nothing away from Ivan [Cleary] or the coaching staff there.

“He comes from an environment I like the look of, and he’s been in a system that has enjoyed consistent success. They’ve only won the one NRL grand final, but all things being equal, they will compete deep into the finals series at a high level again.

“We won the under-17s this year, and they won the under-19s, and the under-19s is a great age group to win because they are two years closer to playing first grade.”

@tigertownsfs Yeah 100 percent

Let's hope that we can get him because in terms of professional reputation, he's the best option out there and that is key in terms of recruitment and retention.

Plenty of support for Payten here, odd given he’s still contracted to the Cowboys.

Stupid poll. I notice there is no option for Trent Robinson or Craig Bellamy? Why wouldnt you include them? Because they are under contract to other club and probably wouldnt come here? Todd Payten is different because.........?

@helmesy makes sense because of his connection to the club and also with how well the Cowboys are going.

Why isnt Trent Robinson on the list then?

Yeah Im not having a go at anyone here but it drives me crazy the discussion about Payten to replace Madge. Firstly, he is under contract for at least next year. Secondly, why the hell would he leave NQ where he has been successful and is lifting a team full of young and established stars that are on the cusp of top 4, to slum it at the Tigers with no cattle and no guarantees. Payten is not a live chance but people discuss him like he is.

It’s the Sheens link mainly I think. He’s only contracted for 2023 with Cowboys so potentially, if he wanted to come, he could be here in November next year.

I think it’s a smoke screen as we let a little time go by between Maguire leaving and Ciraldo being announced.
