Given what we went through with Cleary, putting yourself in Cowboy fans shoes, would you be ok with signing Payten for 2024?
I wouldnt be. Wrong is wrong.
I feel there is a weird affinity between Cowboys & Tigers fans (could be my imagination) out of the 05 Grand Final
I think everyone wants ciraldo (development coach language etc). I do believe though that if we miss ciraldo then Flanagan is in the mix I believe which is a very strange pivot to make
Agree. Sheens and the board have almost painted themselves in a corner with that.

Laurie Daley on the mooted five year contract offer on the table for Ciraldo -
Rugby league great Laurie Daley was stunned when reacting to the news on Friday morning, warning the Tigers against the move.
“You can’t offer him a five-year deal,” he said on The Big Sports Breakfast.
“That would be one of the worst decisions the Tigers have made. It just doesn’t make sense. What happens after 18th months if they’re still in the same predicament? You don’t want to pay out someone again.
“Three years, put some clauses in there if you make the finals you get an extension but don’t just sign someone for five years. You’re taking someone on that has never been in that environment before. You’re not taking on a Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy or Trent Robinson who has got years of experience behind them and success.
“You’re taking on a rookie coach and want to give him a five-year deal and what about the amount of money they’d have to pay?”

A lot of obvious logic in what Laurie is saying. For me, the club needs to do something drastic and this might be it. We need a big circuit breaker and I think CC might be it.

Development Coach with Samoa..
If we are talking development Coaches why has Flanagan been ruled out..
He took Cronulla from 14th to a Premiership..
Not a lot of Coaches have done that.. they may be like Brian Smith or Brad Aurther get en to finals but can't go that extra mile..

In the GF team there was not one player left from the team that Flanagan took over that came 14th, so no, he did not develop any of those players to that level.
In the GF team there was only one Sharks junior rep (Chad Townsend), so no, there is no evidence that Flanagan develops junior players to that level.
Sharks bought a squad that was capable of winning a GF, pretty much the opposite strategy.
There are no examples or evidence that Flanagan is a development coach, hopefully just part of the reason he has been ruled out.

Valantine Holmes, Sosaia Feki, Jack Bird, Ricky Leutele, Chad Townsend, Jason Bukuya from that Grand Final team all made their NRL debuts for Cronulla.. they may not have been in their junior representative teams but they were all developed as NRL players under Flanagan..
With the exception of Penrith currently successful Teams Storm, Rorters, have minimal junior representative players developed from their own junior systems...they take the best from other systems and develop them as NRL players..
Be happy with any of Ciraldo, Morris or Wolfe.
I think itll end up being Morris and id be really gappy with that
@helmesy makes sense because of his connection to the club and also with how well the Cowboys are going.
I think Sheens top three coach’s are Ciraldo, Morris and Payten.
Payten would be a very good option if available. Coached well at the warrior when interim and has taken cowboys to top 4 with a very young squad bring in debutants and getting more (developing???) players that had under achieved. He is still very close to sheens, has already weathered bring a first grade coach (and done tough times in 2021) and is a premiership winning club legend. In all honesty, is there a better fit?
