The disappointing part of this is the PR and management of the process. I think missing out on Ciraldo will be a positive in the long run. A 5 year contract to an inexperienced coach is another example of management over-reaction. (Examples include signing Mybe, Reynolds, Packer and Matulino to ‘replace’ Tedesco, Moses and Woods. Or signing Maguire to replace Clearly, when I think we can say it was obvious he wasn’t the right choice for the club).
On Ciraldo, he is the assistant at a club with a once in generation crop of players. Bellamy and Bennett have remained at the top as they consistently get the best out of sometimes average players. Can we say the same for Ciraldo?
I hope the clubs acknowledges their poor management of this process and look to make some changes from within.
As for a head coach, I think we cannot go wrong with John Morris. He has proven to improve players. He has taken an average roster to a top 8 appearance. The backbone of the current sharks roster is players he has been involved with and provided opportunities to. If he had the opportunity to add Hynes and Finucane to that team, who is to say he wouldn’t be sharing the success Fitzgibbon has at the moment.
Who at the club would be in charge of the coach recruitment process, leading the strategy, negotiation, pitch, deal etc
It's either chairman, ceo or GM.
I'd assume GM identifies the preferred coaches but doesn't lead the recruitment.
So it's either Chairman or CEO
Assuming it's CEO leading with support from Chairman?
Anyone know
It would be a committee. Sheens would make a recommendation on who believes is suitable for the job. CEO would make recommendations on commercials, process and financials. Chairmen would sign off.
The concern for me, our chairman, a lawyer and ‘successful’ business owner has shown a serious lack of awareness when it comes to a negotiation process. We have no leverage, look desperate and weak.
We've recorded a pod on the coaching situation. @mattvtiger there's a mention in there of one of your posts. https://weststigerspodcast.com.au/wests-tigers-podcast-0188/

I think you both are right.
There is no way in hell Pascoe should stand down if we don't get Ciraldo. That is bonkers. Can you imagine a CEO of a company standing down because they couldn't recruit someone ?
I probably wasn’t clear in my post. I was commenting on how the negotiations were being spoken about in public. Pascoe and other senior leaders at the club were interviewed and all named Ciraldo as their number one target. This is just plain wrong. Having being involved in numerous recruitment processes I know the golden rule is to not make any comment. The only comment is to announce the appointment.
I am not fussed on missing out on Ciraldo but I am filthy about the process.

Same here, to be honest some of the recent behaviour from key members of the admin has been worrying.

I read on Facebook that Anthony Siebold is the one we are looking at. I hope this is wrong. Guess we’ll find out on Monday when the board has a meeting and Lee tells the world who we are going to sign.

…those comments by Doueihi were on purpose.
A guy on the WTF saying Siebold and Sheens have spoken and he’s coming in for a tour.

Yeah Im not sure how I feel about that. Siebold did a great job with Souffs post Madge but with a great squad. Brisbane was a disaster but who knows why? He would have a point to prove. Very astute and technical coach which would be new for us. REally in two minds about it. Bottom line I have no confidence in Morris, Woolfe or Flanagan.
EDIT: Also wouldnt put too much credence in those guys over at the WTF, they seem to be in a battle to "one up" each other with rubbish.

I think Siebold's biggest issues at Brisbane were the group of old boys pushing for Walters to get the gig. I still think he would be a huge risk but so is everyone else at this point.

Thanks for the mention. Great listen. Re Ciraldo and his ability to attract star players.. Well Cleary and Maguire (both experienced and successful coaches) both had trouble in this regards. Maguire to his defence was hampered by salary cap constraints.
Recruitment and the head coach is not getting the club out of this. The Storm, the most successful club in the last two decades, don’t buy their way out of trouble. They identify youngsters and develop them into superstars. The Panthers the same. One club had the same coach and one club has changed coaches over the last 6 years.
The key to onfield success is identifying, developing and maintaining the next Crop of NRL superstars. A competent NRL level coach should be able to do the rest (whether it is Morris or Payten). The club should be applauded for their investment in the pathways and identifying this is the only way out of this mess.

I agree with this, my point about Ciraldo and his ability to attract players was to allow us to support the youngsters that we have coming through with some outside help. This would shorten the rebuild in my opinion.

100% of the time Seibold has succeeded Madge he has improved the team by 9 positions on the ladder.
I believe he will end up at the Bulldogs. Gus is smart didn't want to get into a bidding war with Tigers so he did his best to discredit us through himself and his manager mates. He will get all his ducks in a line and approach him quietly without the media attention. We have been played again made to look foolish and unprofessional!

Personally I would not be happy as a member with HQ if they’ve consider either Siebold or Flanagan to me that just reeks of desperation.
Those two would be scrapping the bottom of the barrel and shows that there is absolutely no plan in place by WTs Corp to get themselves out of this massive corner they’ve backed themselves into.
