We have only two strengths, one is that there seems to be a strong group of youngsters coming through, and two is that we have a huge supporter base.
Other than that, poor roster, no coach, no clear direction on identity, and upper management that more often than not gets it wrong.
Its pretty dire atm.

It gets to the stage where you have to wonder whether it’s salvageable.
Do we have a roster capable of playing finals football in the next two years? Probably not.
With our leadership, is it possible to attract a good coach? Probably not.
11 years out of finals and in the worst position we’ve ever been in. When does the NRL step in? 12 years of no finals? 13 years of no finals? If we can’t finish in the top half of a salary cap comp in 13 years do we deserve to be in the competition? I don’t think we do.
Chammas reporting Ciraldo has knocked back the Tigers.
Anyone really surprised
After broadcasting to the world we wanted him, it was a million to 1
He wouldn't coach us if we were the last club left on Mother Earth
If he goes to the dogs it will be catastrophic for the tigers. No amount of PR will change it.
I do not want Flanagan. Too much baggage and the reasons that people want him are the same as what Madge was brought in for.
I want Woolfe now. Just something different. If not him then Morris. At least Morris has some proper affiliation with the club. When you think of people like Toovey, you think of Manly. Fittler is either Roosters or Penrith.
Do we want more Tigers dna in the club? I’d like less I think.
That's quite a good point. Maybe basically restarting the club? Treat it like a new club?
But what I was more getting at was that we need someone who gives a crap about the club or someone who doesn't love another club.
I’d probably just offer the job to Flanagan now.
Not that I’m particularly excited by the prospect but let’s be real here no one with any career aspirations is going to come here and torch their career and rather than go through the whole process of courting someone and ultimately being knocked back we should just bite the bullet and give it to someone no other club will touch with a barge pole due to “baggage”.
Either way there needs to be accountability for this mess in the clubs management with whoever is deemed responsible for sacking Macguire and courting Ciraldo publicly without being 100% sure he was signing needs to lose their job.
The disappointing part of this is the PR and management of the process. I think missing out on Ciraldo will be a positive in the long run. A 5 year contract to an inexperienced coach is another example of management over-reaction. (Examples include signing Mybe, Reynolds, Packer and Matulino to ‘replace’ Tedesco, Moses and Woods. Or signing Maguire to replace Clearly, when I think we can say it was obvious he wasn’t the right choice for the club).
On Ciraldo, he is the assistant at a club with a once in generation crop of players. Bellamy and Bennett have remained at the top as they consistently get the best out of sometimes average players. Can we say the same for Ciraldo?
I hope the clubs acknowledges their poor management of this process and look to make some changes from within.
As for a head coach, I think we cannot go wrong with John Morris. He has proven to improve players. He has taken an average roster to a top 8 appearance. The backbone of the current sharks roster is players he has been involved with and provided opportunities to. If he had the opportunity to add Hynes and Finucane to that team, who is to say he wouldn’t be sharing the success Fitzgibbon has at the moment.

I keep hearing everyone talking about our superstar juniors coming through ...are they really that good ...or is this more spin from our spin attack
The Tigers are dealing with the harsh reality of missing out on their prime target after Cameron Ciraldo knocked back a lucrative five-year deal to become their next coach.
Benji Marshall believes the Tigers need to move on quickly and install the best credentialed coach to turn the club around for long suffering fans after missing out on their prime candidate.
“It is obviously a bit disappointing they didn’t get Cameron,” Marshall said on Fox League.
“I know they invested heavily in him as their first choice, especially offering him a five year deal.
“I think that showed how much they really wanted him, which is a little bit sad.
“But there is a lot of good coaches still out there. What they need to do is shift there attention to whoever it is that is next because they did speak about wanting someone who is good at developing young players, which they identified Cameron as.
“There is guys out there who have done it before. Shane Flanagan has got a mention. John Morris. They were even talking about Todd Payten, but he is on contract with the Cowboys, so I don’t know how that is going to work.
“But whatever it is it needs to be an investment that is going to turn the club around because I think the fans and everyone who has supported the club are a little bit fed up with the way it has been going in terms of results and want a bit of a change.
“The next coach has to be that guy to do it otherwise we could be looking at a long time before the club turns around again.”
Cooper Cronk believes the Tigers need to change the image of the club after going all in on a development coach that ultimately knocked them back for an assistant role at the Panthers.
“That’s a hard reality for the Tigers,” Cronk said.
“They threw what is reported as a long-term deal, big money for a rookie coach to set them up for a long time and he knocked it back.
“That’s the situation the Tigers are in at the moment. Five coaches in the last 10 years. It seems like there is a bit of a reputation that players and coaches and people don’t want to go there.
“So they need a circuit breaker. Something needs to change from that image.
“Tim Sheens is there. He was the last guy to bring success to that football club along with the bloke next to me (Marshall), so it is really up to him to make that change.
“Who that person is I have got no idea, but it is all under Tim Sheens now.”
However, Benji Marshall believes the room to move in the salary cap and the club’s talented juniors makes the Tigers job an attractive one for the next coach.
“From what I gathered about the way they pitched to Cameron Ciraldo, there is a lot of money coming into the salary cap, so whoever does come in next is going to get an opportunity to create the roster they want,” Marshall said.
“There is going to be no excuses around the roster being a problem for whoever it is that does take that position.
“Part of my role at the Tigers now is coaching the juniors and what I’ve seen coming through, there is a lot of success at Wests and Balmain of kids that have got a lot of potential and talent.
“Our job at the club is to be able to keep those kids. So the next coach has to be vital in terms of contracting players and being able to nurture those kids to the next level because home grown talent is where it’s at.”

we should sell 50% ownership in the club to someone who understands what success looks like (no that’s not Benny Elias).
1) the “nominal” owner of the club is someone with experience in running a pokie den
2) the chairman of the board is a fanboy medler
3) the CEO is continuously shielded by the chairman as not being “responsible for football decisions”.
we need to sell the club to someone who knows how to run an accountable organisation who is passionate able success and wests tigers. We need equal representation on the board for each owner and then a independent board member who represents the members

I think you’ve expressed a raft of really good points Mattv.Firstly, the signing of a rookie NRL coach for 5 years is fraught with danger, especially a team void of success for over a decade.I couldn’t see many experienced coaches afforded that luxury apart from Craig Bellamy.
As to the appointment of JohnnyMorris, that could be an astute move.I was quite surprised when Garry aired his list of achievements on the last podcast, they read exceptionally well.I believe we could do a lot worse.Im warming to the idea.
I'd have no issue with Morris. My only concern is him attracting players. We need to pretty much overhaul our entire roster.
I also doubt whether Morris would want to come here after the past weeks events.

Who at the club would be in charge of the coach recruitment process, leading the strategy, negotiation, pitch, deal etc
It's either chairman, ceo or GM.
I'd assume GM identifies the preferred coaches but doesn't lead the recruitment.
So it's either Chairman or CEO
Assuming it's CEO leading with support from Chairman?
Anyone know

Tough to consider but unfortunately true. We need to turn things around or it will be an irreparable slide to oblivion.
