I don't think he has on this issue. The main idiot has been Sheens. He was the one with the development coach line. Pascoe also said Ciraldo was our no 1 target.

I thought it was Lee who said that...

Sacking Madge was a bad decision, doing it without a replacement shows a lobotomised club with an incompetent running the football department. Kimmorley saying it's going to be a long rebuild just makes it worse.

Gross stupidity always finds a way to bite you in the, um, glutes.

Thing is - although we weren't winning, I thought there was improvement and I was looking forward to the 2nd half of the year when the injured players returned. I was fully expecting to make the 8 next year with our signings, filly fit AD and Blore.

Then they sacked Madge and we get this....

Top 8 2023

This is a terrible indictment for this club … it is time that a couple of personnel are shown the door .. Pascoe the Chairman or both . To be frank Sheens is party to this as well . The fact that CC wants no part of the club is not the issue .. the issue is these three individuals are driven by there egos and now have treated the supporter base as fools and now we will have to wear the brunt of the joke of the league it just goes on and on .

Time these fools were moved on from our club , for good sake this is the ultimate in ineptitude honestly?

Forget the brunt of the joke of the league business (as true and as embarrassing as that is), they have actually poisoned their own negotiations with potential candidates.

I agree. Here's my verbose thoughts.

Last year the board were getting agitated because we weren't winning. Contact is made with Sheens and a deal is done to bring him 'home'. I doubt Pascoe suggests this as he just doesn't seem that guy - I'm sure it would have been initiated at Board (or sponsor) level.

Sheens hops on board and starts to control signings, including coaching staff. The team performs poorly, especially towards the end, but probably no worse than many expected. We have a review in December and decide honouring a coach's contract might be a good idea.

We start the year as favourites for wooden spoon but perform OK in a few games to give fans hope. Jacko's suspension probably costs us two games along with dropped balls by Laurie (which would have won us a game) and Madden (who could have saved us a game). With these couple of wins Madge is still here.

When we're 0-6 the board are probably leaning on Sheens saying "what are you going to do?". Remember this is now a reflection on Sheens because he's been overseeing for 12 months. Sheens gives Madge a KPI which is almost impossible to achieve given the injuries we have and the lack of depth - remembering this was largely caused by our previous 'rebuilds'.

We jag a couple of wins, our defence looks a lot stronger and we're actually over-performing despite the win/loss count. Losses keep coming and the board is pressing Sheens for action. Rather than stick by the coach to see the year out Sheens decides to scapegoat Madge to give the appearance he's doing something.

Bring in Kimmorely and we're looking at 3 losses on the trot with him in charge. After the Warriors we have Parramatta (who owe us from round 1), Panthers and Cowboys. Noddy is looking at a 0-6 start to his NRL career. The board will be asking questions again and Noddy's head could be lost.

Sheens has thrown Noddy under the bus (no pun intended). He's is happy to sacrifice Kimmorely to save his own skin and appear to be doing something. It would have been way smarter to let Madge see out the season, get the COE FINISHED so we could show people the future rather than Power-pointing it from a demountable, and see how the games rolled with a few guys back. Letting LL and Mikaele go wasn't smart and we're going to pay dearly for the rest of the year.

In 2023 with Api and Papal'i on board we might look better (as long as they don't have escape clauses based on the coach). We urgently need to find some quality players at prop, second row and centre.

As for the coach, I'd guess Flanno and his son with a swap for Brooks would be an option. I never felt Mick Potter was given a chance here the first time around but he may not want to come back and if the Bulldogs keep going he might snag their job. I'm not sure Morris has the depth for the sort of rebuild we need. I'm not up on the British coaches but they're going to be NRL novices as well.

There'll be competition with Bulldogs and Warriors and right now I think Bulldogs look a better option and Warriors worse - purely based on geography.

One thing is for sure, the board doesn't have the patience to be a development club, no matter how much it's proselytised.

Good post VoR.

I understood punting Madge at this point because waiting until the end of the season would have caused havoc with player retention let alone recruitment The new coach would not have time to get the players he wanted and we would have written off another season.

I can not forgive them for the pathetic unprofessional manner that they have gone about courting Ciraldo though.

You've also got me thinking about Potter 2.0 as well. We could do worse.

Madge was let go so WT do need a head coach, Kimmorley currently or insert name here thereafter.

The head hunting an employed candidate (Ciraldo) from a rival club strategy has failed miserably.

So I think the strategy from now on needs to be-

Dear NRL coaching aspirants, WT NRL Head Coach position available.

role criteria includes but not limited to-

#1- hating yourself enough to consider being WT Coach.

#2- are delusional/egotistical enough to believe you can turn this team/club around.

If you believe you fit these above criteria Please Apply.

Then from pool of applicants club choose who they believe best fit. (as @barra said "In Sheens we bust")

sign to 2-3yr deal with some performance based extension clauses/options and get on with it.

We have to be prepared for the possibility that he goes to the Bulldogs, takes some Penrith juniors and they continue to improve.

I think he is going to sit at Penrith.

If he goes to the dogs it will be catastrophic for the tigers. No amount of PR will change it.

I do not want Flanagan. Too much baggage and the reasons that people want him are the same as what Madge was brought in for.

I want Woolfe now. Just something different. If not him then Morris. At least Morris has some proper affiliation with the club. When you think of people like Toovey, you think of Manly. Fittler is either Roosters or Penrith.

I think you can put a line through any desirable coach like Woolfe and perhaps even Morris. These guys don’t want to be the fallback option. They’ve also seen how the club handles things and how even how the idiot chairman engages with fans.

if I were a coach I wouldn’t dream of coming to wests tigers. Awful roster and shocking leadership.

the only ones who would take the job are those that probably won’t get a job anywhere else ever again. Green, Brennan, Barrett etc. they’ll kick around for a couple of years and then get punted.

we had our chance to get someone good, but we bottled it again.

I don't see a serious high level contender taking the Job.There are to many problems inside the Club at all levels including the Board, Senior Management and the Football structure. Who ever is the next coach he has to have full say in Players Who he wants and who doesn’t want at the club.

Do we want more Tigers dna in the club? I’d like less I think.
