We are going to look stupid if Ciraldo doesn’t come after all this talk in the media by our leadership. At the very least Pascoe will need to step down.
This is so over the top. If he doesn't come we just look to recruit the next best option which will probably be better than the first option anyway.
I think you both are right. Its pretty clear we didn't have a locked and loaded replacement for Madge - that doesn't seem sensible to me and we'll cop it from the usual commentators if we don't land CC. But there is a lot of money on offer and the NRL is the best RL comp on the planet so there is appeal even to coach of the team running 14th - someone notable will go for it.
I think you both are right.
There is no way in hell Pascoe should stand down if we don't get Ciraldo. That is bonkers. Can you imagine a CEO of a company standing down because they couldn't recruit someone ?

Should have been clearer - I agreed with eastie on the look stupid part. As for JP it wouldn't be appropriate for him to lose his job over a footy department decision that Sheens and the Board have endorsed. I've said here a few times that JP has done some good things around future proofing of our club (get the club financial again, COE, money for pathways), but that doesn't mean his continued tenure is without question. It could be that a better person is available to build on JP's legacy and do a better job.

I don't think he should stand down either, I think the club should fire him. Not because of the Ciraldo bungling - they should have fired him years ago. He's a terrible administrator.

Bring back Steve Noyce?

IMO Earl the second part of your post explains why the first sentence is wrong and why Eastiemagpie feels the way he feels.
Yes, I agree with you that if the clubs plan A falls apart, then you obviously go to Plan B and make the most of that.....so why the hell would you yell from the towers "WE ARE ALL IN ON PLAN A< THIS IS WHAT WE WANT"?
The club should have been professional and quietly chase Ciraldo as hard as you can, meanwhile you also curate Plans B, C & maybe D, working out their order and preparing them consequetively, quietly behind the scenes. It would potentially put a flame under Ciraldo as him might worry that Morris or someone else could get it.
IMO there are only two possibilities.
a) They know they have Ciraldo
b) they are totally inept and useless and need to go.
I'm nervously awaiting the verdict.

Sacking Pascoe is different to sacking Pascoe for not signing Ciraldo.
I honestly don't know what to think about Pascoe. I'm not stating he is good. The club is a mess. You'd like to think someone can turn the ship around.
Burton is a big Ciraldo fan…
According to The Daily Telegraph, the Bulldogs’ ability to sign Penrith assistant Cameron Ciraldo is said to be key to securing Burton’s long-term future in Belmore.
Ciraldo is one of the hottest coaching prospects in the competition and is being courted by the Tigers and Bulldogs.
Burton backed Cleary’s understudy to excel if he does join the Canterbury-Bankstown club.
“I personally haven’t heard anything about him coming to Belmore so we will have to wait and see what happens. He’d be great at Canterbury,” Burton said.
“Ciro is an awesome coach. He’s a really smart guy, he’s got a great football brain. He is also a really good communicator, the way he gets his point across and the way he addresses things is clear, that makes it easy to know exactly what your job is.
“I think the best thing about his coaching style is how personal he is with the players.
“He’ll come up to you after training and let you know how you’re going and what areas you need to work on and improve. He can be very meticulous.”

As a wise man once said on a forum......."If they want to make Ciraldo their no 1 target cool but there is no need to state that. It's just setting yourself up for failure."
If we dont get Ciraldo, this failure will be the last drop in the glass for mine.

I wonder if it is also a coincidence that reportedly Burton has told the Bulldogs that he will not be taking up his players option for 2024? If I squint a little bit, activate a fertile imagination and turn my head to the side, I can see some pieces starting to come together....
You think Burton would wait to find out if Ciraldo was coming to the Dogs?

Or the Panthers can shift a few salaries around and get him back with Ciraldo as a assistant ...or Redcliffe ...or the Roosters ...or Brisbane .....Redcliffe would be my pick ...it all makes the most sense to me
Doesn't your original hypothetical and this one apply to any new coach we get?
Yes it does, but I'm more concerned about an unproven novice. 5 years shouldn't even be uttered but I can see it's the sort of thing we'd do - only to break it in year 3.
Depends, proven at what...?
Madge is proven at winning premierships in two comps with decent squads. Not what we needed.
Ciraldo is 100% unproven at head coaching at NRL level, however he is proven at developing kids from Flegg to SoO. Also supposedly responsible for the best defence in the last 10 years. IMO that is what we need
So, looks like Wolfe isn’t an option. I reckon we’re getting closer to a Ciraldo appointment at Wests Tigers.
The NZ Warriors have copped a major blow in their coaching search, with top target Kristian Woolf reportedly rejecting an offer to take the reins at the Kiwi club.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Woolf turned down a hefty multi-year deal to become the club’s next head coach.
Warriors owner Mark Robinson flew to England to meet with the St Helens boss earlier this month, the outlet reports, but has since seen his offer rebuffed.
Woolf has won two consecutive Premierships and is firmly in the race to make it three-straight at the Super League franchise, and has also impressed on the international stage in charge of Tonga.
But the 46-year-old from Mount Isa is reportedly keen to return to Australia at season’s end, and is in talks with the Dolphins to become an assistant to Wayne Bennett at the NRL’s expansion club for 2023.
With in-demand Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo having declared himself out of contention for the Warriors role – as has Shane Flanagan – the New Zealand side remains focused on finding another young coach who can take the step up to the head coaching position. Interim boss Stacey Jones remains unlikely to be handed the job long-term.
Meanwhile, the news is a boost for the Wests Tigers and Canterbury Bulldogs, who are both also without a head coach after sacking their own strategists this campaign.
After the Tigers tabled a five-year offer to Ciraldo, the Bulldogs have been more strongly linked to a move for Woolf, who will lead Tonga’s World Cup assault in October.
The Bulldogs were reportedly wary of matching that five-year proposal, according to News Corp journalist Dave Riccio. Riccio told NRL 360: “There’s suggestions that (Bulldogs football GM) Gus (Gould) has held talks with or is in the process of having talks with Kristian Woolf so clearly the Dogs are looking at other options as well.
“I’ve also heard that they’re not willing to go to that five-year term because they don’t want to invest in a rookie coach for that length of time.”
Gould has since denied talking to any coach, or planning to in the near future.
