Sacking Madge will have real repercussions.
In one fell swoop they've killed off Madge and within the next few weeks Noddy's aspirations will be dead. I think we'll get the spoon.
Ciraldo will be watching closely and thinking a good salary at Penrith is way better than a higher salary with us. All changing the coach has done is confirmed the coach isn't the problem and a new coach would need a death wish to come here.
Based on the past two weeks it would be easy to believe there's a lot of players not happy with Madge going.
They absolutely needed to get rid of Madge. Look at the roster he's assembled - it's garbage. We need to appoint a coach who a) can attract players and b) actually coach. Madge wasn't able to do either of those things. You cannot undo 3.5 years of damage in 2 weeks.
We are a club that hasn't made the finals in 10 years and only made it 3 times in 23 seasons - the blame for being in this position can't all sit on one head coach who's only been here for the last 3 1/2 years.
We've never been a club that has attracted big signings.
We haven't developed juniors since we lost teddy.
We have let go of 5 coaches in 10 years.
Constantly blaming coaches for our mess and hoping a new one will fix everything- is why we are where we are.
Top 8 2023

And 4 of those 10 years were under Madge. He is more responsible than any other coach for the position we find ourselves in.
he couldn’t get them playing competitively, he couldn’t attract players and he couldn’t even get them fit.
Sheens has confirmed on Triple M that Ciraldo is our number one coaching target.
What will this do to Sheens reputation if he doesn’t come here?

IMO if we do not get Ciraldo, there are a lot of people that need to be held accountable.
Ive expressed my anger at Madge tonight, and I am convinced he was part of the problem and not the right coach but sacking him is only the right idea if we replace him with better. If we end up with an also ran coach I can no longer support Pascoe, Lee, the Board and Sheens and Im with you with the pitchforks.
we need to clean out the roster and start again but as we know that is not easy to do particularly when the reserve grade is also poor. All we can do is continue to clean out the under performers and stop buying players at the end of their careers. Tamou was a bad buy. This sends the wrong message to the players at the club and players on the market. Players are not stupid, they know how good each other are at all clubs and are not going to come to club which has Tamou as their leader. This is changing but not as quick as we would like. With Papalii and Api coming it is a start, they are at the top of their game.

It’s a strange situation. I don’t remember other teams playing it out so much in the media. Ciraldo has toured the CoE, looked over the books etc and we are in the press saying he is our only real target. Either he’s already signed but not announced or we are about to become the biggest laughing stock in rugby league history

Ciraldo or bust.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
So glad the decision to punt Madge has been such an overwhelming success and Pascoe ....Lee Hangipantelis and the rest of the board were 1000% right in their decision to sack Madge
Didn't watch game ...won't watch game ...gotta love work lol
We won the wooden spoon cup ...great stuff
Press conference was interesting. Noddy seemed very uncomfortable. He also mentioned that the club was looking at the type of player to retain for the future and only retain those commitment to the club and with talent. It indicated that he has very little confidence in the current playing group. This is refreshing, he is calling it as it is and not mollycoddling the players.
The Wests Tigers believe Cameron Ciraldo has all the qualities required to lead the club out of the doldrums - and they’ve shown him just how highly they think of him by not approaching any other candidates for the coach’s job as they await his response.
Those close to Ciraldo say he’s in no rush to make a decision. He wants to make sure it’s the right one and won’t be pressured by time constraints.
The Tigers understand it’s a big decision for the rookie coach, but they can’t afford to be left waiting for a man who may never arrive.
The Tigers are willing to give him that time to decide, but they also know at some point they need to open negotiations with other prospective coaches in case Ciraldo opts to stay at Penrith or link with the Bulldogs.
That point is likely to be after this weekend with all teams enjoying the week off for representative round. The Tigers hope Ciraldo will give them an answer by the end of the week.
Since they rolled out the red carpet for the Panthers assistant in a marathon seven-hour meeting at Concord last Monday, Ciraldo has been inundated with work given Ivan Cleary’s current health predicament.
Ciraldo led the Panthers to victory over the Warriors in Redcliffe on Saturday - the third time this year he has filled in and managed a win.
But representative round has come at the perfect time for all concerned. Ciraldo will have time to sit down and work out what his next career move will be. The Tigers have decisions of their own to make.

I don't like this, sounds reminiscent of our last two failed major negotiations.

Has he signed a heads of agreement though.
If he has then we're all good....

It's the most stupid approach imaginable. Sacking Madge was stupid and this approach is even more stupid.
We are a first grade team with our cap in a good position. We should be looking at multiple candidates and choosing the best candidate out of the bunch.
On top of that CC is completely unproven in a head coach role.
I don't like this, sounds reminiscent of our last two failed major negotiations.
This is why sacking Madge mid-season wasn't smart. They could have tapped him on the shoulder and told him he's moving on at the end of the year. Open negotiations with other candidates based on that but let the team finish the year without the added pressure of a change of coach.
Madge coached 3.5 years and the first two were clearing the decks of baggage. The next 18 months was trying to recruit into an undesirable environment and team. Hastings, Api, Stefano and Papal'i signings were a glimmer at the end of the tunnel but sacking the coach extinguishes that light for potential signings - it simply reinforces the perception we're a basket case.
It seems to be a 'panic' decision when everyone knew 2022 was going to be a bad year. If he needed to go at the end of the year I'm not against change, but it's sounding like we've gone off half-cocked with Ciraldo and my guess is we're little to no chance of getting him.
My concerns with Sheen running the place are increasing.

Sheens should stick to pathways. He should never have been given the keys to the kingdom. It won’t end well.
