The Wests Tigers have taken their first bold step to finding a new coach, rolling out the red carpet for Penrith assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo on Monday.

Tigers director of football Tim Sheens, chairman Lee Hagipantelis and chief executive Justin Pascoe were at Concord on Monday pitching to Ciraldo to lure him to the club as Michael Maguire’s successor from next year.

Sources with knowledge of discussions told the Herald that the Tigers invited Ciraldo into the club’s facility for a marathon meeting just 24 hours after he led the Panthers to victory against the Knights.

The Herald reported on Sunday that Ciraldo has told those close to him that he sees plenty of upsides in the Wests Tigers as an organisation, however question marks remain over the strength and depth of the roster.

The Tigers have declared they want a development coach to replace Michael Maguire and have identified Ciraldo as their No.1 target.

Tigers officials are aware of the Canterbury Bulldogs’ interest in Ciraldo and were keen to meet the 37-year-old to put forward their vision for the club.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told the Herald that Ciraldo sees plenty of upside at the Tigers given what has been done off the field to set up the pathways and the financial investment the club has made in its football department.

The big question mark is over the roster and whether the club can compete for a title in the next three years.

The Tigers attempted to convince Ciraldo that they have a core group of players, both in the NRL squad and coming through the junior system, that is worth taking the risk on.

Noddy clears air with Madge

One of Brett Kimmorley’s first acts as interim Wests Tigers coach was to call Michael Maguire and let him know he had played no part in the coach’s demise.

Channel Nine cameras captured Kimmorley arriving at the club’s Concord headquarters just a couple of hours after Maguire was sacked and left the facility for the final time on Tuesday.

This column has been told that ‘Noddy’ called Maguire to let him know that he only learnt of his promotion on the day of the coach’s sacking. Maguire had no qualms about Kimmorley’s involvement.

Given it looks like we’ve shown our hand ie he’s our number one choice, they’d better get the deal done for their sake.

Fred Ciraldo is or was a Senior Canterbury Official (club’s gear steward - whatever that means). Just wondering if they are related.

Is there nothing that happens in the club that someone doesn't tell a journalist 5 mins later.

Can we keep the Cilardo negotiations behind close doors and only reveal once he's signed?

The more it plays out in the media - the more I feel the club will be left red faced

@helmesy if it’s a shoot out between our roster and the Bulldogs roster, then we’re no chance of getting him.

Ciraldo is so lucky right now with three jobs vacant and maybe another two coming up at the Knights and Titans.

I hope we aren’t talking to the likes of Flanagan, Green, Toovey etc

@jedi-tiger maybe I’m just being negative because of all the bad experiences we’ve had missing out on who we want. Fingers crossed that we can land him.
